On the opening day, the Entertainnt City’s business was booming, and Aaron Ray didn’t get ho until midnight.
As soon as he entered, he slled smoke all over the house.
Aaron Ray frowned and saw Milton Bryce sitting alone in the living room, the ashtray in front of him piled high with cigarette butts and ash.
“Why are you hiding at ho being lazy?” Aaron Ray said with a mix of annoyance and amusent, walked over, took the cigarette from his mouth, and stubbed it out in the ashtray.
Milton Bryce looked unwell, his entire deanor radiating unease.
Aaron Ray suspiciously regarded him for a mont, then sat down beside him and asked, “What’s going on?”
Milton Bryce opened his mouth but hesitated to speak.
His expression was tense as he scanned the surroundings, still uneasy. He stood up, tightly closed and locked the doors and windows, then turned on the old-fashioned record player in the living room—
lodious music floated out.
Aaron Ray was bewildered by Milton Bryce’s series of actions, “What are you doing? Did a spy enter the house?”
“Shh!…” Milton Bryce made a silencing gesture, his voice extrely low, “Even more terrifying than a spy.”
“What exactly is it?” Aaron Ray asked, frowning.
Milton Bryce looked around again, ensured no servants were around, then whispered to Aaron Ray, “Today… I accidentally overheard that soone wants to assassinate Harvey Howard!”
Aaron Ray gasped and asked in shock, “Is the information reliable?”
Milton Bryce nodded, “I heard it with my own ears. Next week, Master Howard is going to Scenton. They’re lying in ambush on the road to the dock.”
“Do they think they can just assassinate him? Are Master Howard’s people useless?” Aaron Ray’s tone was icy, filled with disdain.
Being a minor figure himself, Aaron Ray could still have enemies like Griffin Dalton. Let alone Harvey Howard, an influential figure, probably facing assassination attempts several tis a year.
Milton Bryce sighed, saying anxiously, “I don’t know, I just heard them say there’s an inside man helping, that it will definitely succeed, and so on…”
Aaron Ray furrowed his brows tightly, his expression growing colder, “Where exactly did you hear this from?! Is there a traitor by Master Howard’s side? If this gets out, who knows what kind of ss it’ll cause! Who’s the traitor? What do they do? What’s their na?”
“Oh, I really don’t know!” Milton Bryce was equally anxious, explaining, “I was hiding in the auction house’s storage room cabinet, it was pitch black. I only heard two n’s voices! They were using lots of codes and ciphers while speaking, how could I figure out the traitor’s na?! I’m already blessed by heavens to have co back alive!”
Aaron Ray frowned and asked, “What were you doing in the storage room for no reason?!”
“I!…” Milton Bryce stamred for a mont, his eyes slightly evasive, “I… I was just taking a look…”
His deanor was obviously guilty like a thief.
Aaron Ray snorted in annoyance.
There was no need to guess; it was clear that Milton Bryce’s old habit of sneaky behavior had resurfaced. He wanted to take advantage of the opening night’s excitent, with fewer people around the storage room, to sneak in and steal sothing.
The auction house’s storage room was stocked with items for auction, each piece being quite valuable.
“But… since they t in the auction house’s storage room, it ans that traitor is likely soone from our auction house.” Aaron Ray pondered the matter carefully and felt sothing was off, “But how could soone from the auction house know Master Howard’s specific travel ti and location imdiately?”
Milton Bryce hesitated for a mont and tentatively suggested, “There might be… more than one traitor?”
If that’s the case, Harvey Howard’s current situation is extrely dangerous!
Aaron Ray imdiately got up, grabbed a coat, and headed for the door hurriedly.
“Hey! Where are you going?!” Milton Bryce chased after him.
Aaron Ray said, “I’m going to the manor. I can’t trust anyone right now. I must tell Master Howard about this personally.”
Milton Bryce’s face changed dramatically, grabbing Aaron Ray’s arm tightly, “You can’t tell him!”
