Chapter 167: Carry on the Back

Translator: 549690339

They found many wild fruits in the mountains, all kinds of them: the bright red rose-hip, the round and rolling crab apple, and the dark and glossy crow’s eye fruit.

The little crow liked them very much. As Purple Sumrs picked them, it ate quite a few, but it enjoyed playing with them in its beak even more than eating them.

Crows love brightly colored little objects.

Purple Sumrs also discovered a pogranate tree. It was the perfect ti for the pogranates to ripen, and each red, full pogranate hung heavily on the branches.

Purple Sumrs wasn’t that interested in eating pogranates, but she fell in love with the fun of picking them. She picked many large pogranates and asked Alexander Sumrs to help her with the ones she couldn’t reach until both of their bags were filled to the brim.

As they were about to leave the mountain, Purple Sumrs was astonished at how fast ti had passed. Unknowingly, the sun had already set in the west.

She actually spent the whole afternoon playing with Alexander in the mountains?

As Alexander leisurely strolled through the woods, he carried the harvest they’d gathered all afternoon. The warm evening sun shone on him, his face shadowed in the golden backlight, his voice even softer: “Purple, it’s ti to go ho for dinner.”

Purple Sumrs was in a daze.

It seed as if, in the direction he was heading, there really was the warmth of ho.

But… he was Alexander Sumrs, the notorious heartless womanizer…

Perhaps his womanizing was just a disguise? To hide his secret identity of helping the Howard family?

Purple Sumrs’ heart skipped a beat, utterly astonished.

She was actually defending him? Why was she looking for excuses to help him?

Did Alexander put a spell on her?

They had picked too many fruits, especially the pogranates, which were quite heavy.

They were light when they went up the mountain, but now, as they prepared to go down, they were faced with nurous difficulties.

Purple Sumrs’ shoulder bag was full of fruit, and she was panting after walking for a short ti. But after all that effort, would she just leave everything in the mountains? She couldn’t bear to do so.

Alexander couldn’t stand it any longer. He reached out to carry her, thought of sothing, retracted his hand, and squatted down in front of Purple.

“Get on.”

Purple Sumrs hesitated, feeling a little embarrassed. The fruit Alexander was carrying in his hands was even more nurous and heavier than what she had on her shoulders…

She hesitated and didn’t move.

Alexander said, “You’re too slow. By the ti we get ho, it’ll be dark, and there are no lights on the mountain.”

Everything he said made sense.

Purple Sumrs pursed her lips, knowing it was ti to give in, and silently clenched her teeth as she lay on Alexander’s back.

In this way, all the weight was on Alexander…

“…Is it very heavy?” Purple asked quietly, uncomfortably.

“Yeah, it’s heavy,” Alexander supported her higher up on his back, and said, “Like carrying a little pig.”

“Nonsense!” Purple blushed and reached out to pinch Alexander’s face.

Alexander laughed heartily, his laughter bright and resounding.

Purple’s face beca even hotter.

The road down the mountain was rugged and winding. Alexander, tall and long-legged, carried her and their bounty of fruit as he walked, striding comfortably as if on flat ground.

After walking out of the dense forest, Purple saw the brilliant evening glow. The setting sun stretched their shadows long and intertwined on the ground.

Purple Sumrs lay quietly on Alexander’s back, her gaze following their shadows on the ground, her face unconsciously revealing confusion…

Later, she fell asleep on his back…

She slept from dusk until night, and when she woke up, it was already 8 o’clock in the evening.

Purple Sumrs sat dumbfounded on the bed, thinking that Alexander’s comnt about her being a pig was completely justified. Every ti she was with him, she could eat and sleep effortlessly. Wasn’t that just like a pig?

“Pathetic,” she whispered to herself, embarrassed, and got up from the bed.

The dining table downstairs was already full of dishes, including freshly squeezed juice. Alexander must have just prepared it, but his figure was nowhere to be found.

Purple Sumrs thought it was strange, and went back upstairs to look for him. He wasn’t in the guest room, but the light in the study was on.

She entered the study to find Alexander looking at her laptop.

Purple Sumrs was startled, and quickly closed the laptop with a few strides!

Alexander calmly looked up, his deep eyes as dark as ink, and asked softly: “Are you investigating Suzanne Saunders’ case?”
