Chapter 1468: Chapter 1468: During the Court Hearing
They arrived early, and the courtroom was sparsely filled with people. The judge and jury had yet to take their seats.
Timothy Diaz’s lawyer was a petite young girl wearing glasses, looking very genteel — the kind that just entered the profession not long ago.
This was expected; Timothy Diaz definitely couldn’t afford a lawyer. Even if he had the money, no lawyer would want to take on the Graves Group. In such cases, the court randomly assigns a lawyer.
Assigned cases are usually seen by law firm interns as valuable opportunities to gain experience, since no client wants to hire a rookie lawyer.
When this young girl with glasses saw Purple Sumrs, she was very excited and ca over with a book, “Senior, I’m a fan of yours. Could you sign this for ?”
“Sure.” Purple Sumrs smiled slightly and accepted the book from her.
“Ah…it’s Rudolf von Jhering’s ‘The Struggle for Law.’ How nostalgic.” Purple Sumrs sighed nostalgically, picking up a pen to sign her na on the inside page.
The girl happily asked, “Do you also like this book?”
“Yes, I used to read it often in university and revisiting it every now and then gives different insights.” Purple Sumrs replied.
The girl bowed deeply to her: “Thank you for your guidance, Senior! I will definitely keep reading it!”
Purple Sumrs couldn’t help but smile. She hadn’t really said much; what guidance was she talking about?
But recalling her own early days in the profession, she was also bursting with excitent and filled with enthusiasm and passion.
At this mont, the judge and jury began to take their seats, and the girl visibly grew nervous.
Purple Sumrs said with a smile, “Good luck later.”
“Thank you, Senior! I will give it my all and treasure every mont of challenging you!”
Purple Sumrs chuckled and let her be.
Cherry leaned over and whispered, “What do we do? She’s going to give it her all — can we still win?”
Purple Sumrs glanced at her. “Regardless of winning or losing, Gavin Graves will still pay my legal fees.”
Cherry was stunned, “Can it be like that?”
Then she grew a bit anxious, “No way, you have to win, or it’ll be so embarrassing!”
Seeing her clueless state, Purple Sumrs felt amused and deliberately said, “If you agree to do sothing for , I’ll give it my all, too, and win this case.”
“What do you want to do?” Cherry grew cautious.
Purple Sumrs replied unhurriedly, “Anyway, it’s sothing effortless for you to do.”
Cherry mulled it over for a while, reluctantly nodded, and then emphasized, “If it’s not effortless, the deal is off.”
Purple Sumrs just smiled silently.
The judge announced the opening of the court session, and Purple Sumrs, being the prosecution, requested to question the defendant, Timothy Diaz.
The man had recently undergone eye surgery; though discharged from the hospital, the bandages weren’t yet removed, and he looked sickly.
Purple Sumrs speculated he must be deeply suffering inside; of all won to choose, he went after the Graves Family head’s woman — wasn’t this akin to courting death?
“Mr. Timothy Diaz, did you forcibly try to initiate relations with my client?” Purple Sumrs asked bluntly, going straight to the point.
Timothy Diaz replied, “No, she consented.”
Purple Sumrs asked, “If she consented, why did she injure you?”
Timothy Diaz’s face turned ugly as he said, “How would I know? Maybe she has a screw loose.”
Cherry nearly exploded in her seat and almost jumped up to curse, but Gavin Graves held her down.
Purple Sumrs smiled, “Mr. Timothy Diaz, since you think my client has a screw loose, how can you be sure she consented?”
“She was fine coming back with ! How was I supposed to know she’d suddenly go crazy!” Timothy Diaz’s tone was laced with embarrassnt and annoyance, “She’s totally insane! Look at what she did to ! I’ve lost an eye!”
Purple Sumrs maintained her smile, “May I ask, what did you do to her just before she injured you?”
