Chapter 1268: Chapter 1268
If it was truly just a regular animal attack, the prosecutor wouldn’t need to get involved.
Allen Rivera was sent to investigate because the local prosecutor suspected this to be a malicious human-induced incident. However, the investigation had made no progress, so they applied to the city for additional manpower to help.
And Allen Rivera was the prosecutor sent, sowhat like a special imperial envoy in ancient tis.
However, Allen didn’t want to talk much about the case. He didn’t want to make the atmosphere too serious either, so he changed the topic to ask about Jane McCain’s recent activities.
Jane didn’t have much going on recently. The only thing she could talk about was Purple Sumrs’ twins’ birthday party.
So she babbled about how adorable the twins were, how much she contributed, and how long the birthday cake was…
“Prosecutor Rivera, did you know the longest cake in the world is over three thousand ters?” Jane marveled.
“Just call Allen,” he said.
Jane was stunned for a mont, “Oh, okay…”
“Do you know how tall the tallest cake in the world is?” Allen asked her.
Jane blinked, responding blankly, “No idea, how tall?”
Allen said, “I don’t know either. Why don’t you check?”
“…” Jane was speechless for a mont, then resignedly picked up her phone to search for the answer. “The tallest cake is eight ters… weighing two tons.”
“So, it’s eight ters,” Allen nodded in understanding, “Now we know.”
What an awkward conversation.
But why did she kind of enjoy this awkward conversation?
Jane glanced at Allen’s profile, silently covering her chest, and thought: Oh no, I’m falling for him…
…
Allen took Jane to a private restaurant, with a tranquil environnt and distinctive decor.
They arrived early, so there weren’t many guests, and the dishes ca quickly.
Jane particularly admired Allen for this. After all, she was born and raised in Clearwater too, so why couldn’t she find a decent restaurant like this?
“How did you find this place?” She asked curiously, “A friend’s recomndation?”
Allen lightly shook his head, “I have a lot of ti alone. I don’t have many hobbies, so whenever I have ti, I drive for an hour or two looking for places to eat. Sotis I chat with the boss, it’s quite interesting.”
Allen poured her a glass of wine, “Try this fruit wine, it’s brewed by the owner herself. It won’t get you drunk, perfect for girls.”
Jane picked up the glass of wine, and impulsively asked, “Are you close with the owner?”
She regretted asking imdiately…
She bit her lip quietly, feeling like she had exposed sothing.
Allen was initially stunned, then he smiled lightly, seemingly joking, “I’m closer to you.”
Jane’s face was already flushed. She took a few sips of the wine, pretending to be casual, fanning herself with her hand, “This wine is quite strong… you should try it too.”
Allen laughed, “I don’t drink, I have to drive later.”
He rarely showed emotions, even when he smiled, it was faint and reserved, giving a sense of controlled indifference.
This very restraint, cold and clear, with sharp features, was irresistibly attractive.
Jane’s mouth felt dry.
She lowered her gaze to avoid her heart racing to the point of dying, keeping her head down to avoid direct eye contact.
Unconsciously, she drank a few more sips of wine.
The dishes were brought one by one, and the atmosphere was quite pleasant.
Allen said, “I’m actually not a local of Clearwater. My hotown is in Hutton County. My parents often brew fruit wine and pickle small dishes. My siblings are pretty good at cooking. My third brother has beco a head chef. Thinking back, I’ve always had a good palate since childhood, but I’m not very skilled in cooking myself.”
