"There are pros and cons." Purple Sumrs said, "Though personally explaining in court can seem more sincere, you will also face the prosecutor’s cross-examination. They will lay all your outrageous behaviors online bare for judgnt. You will have nowhere to escape, and the jury’s impression of you will greatly diminish."
Hans Geoffrey frowned, concentrating deeply, then nodded: "Alright, I’ll follow your advice."
Purple Sumrs looked at Abigail Thompson: "Are you ready?"
Abigail Thompson pressed her lips together and glanced at Hans Geoffrey. Finally, she gently nodded.
Hans Geoffrey’s previously calm emotional state suddenly beca agitated. He gripped Abigail Thompson’s hand tightly and said, "What if... what if we lose the case..."
"There won’t be any ’what if’." Abigail Thompson gently comforted him, "The child and I will wait for you to co out."
Hans Geoffrey’s eyes turned red and he lowered his head.
If the death penalty were truly carried out, he would lose his life; so, how could he co out? There would be no chance of coming out...
...
Purple Sumrs hoped Abigail Thompson could help Hans Geoffrey and prove his innocence. But first, Abigail Thompson had to endure the cross-examination.
If she fell into traps and was easily defeated by the prosecutor’s questions like the psychiatrist, all previous testimonies would beco futile.
This was not easy.
Because prosecutors and lawyers excel at pressuring others linguistically, let alone a gentle woman like Abigail Thompson without any confrontational capabilities. Purple Sumrs knew she shouldn’t hold high hopes for her.
Graham Burke’s first question to Abigail Thompson was extrely uncomfortable.
"How did you feel knowing your husband was passionately involved with another woman while you were pregnant?"
"...Unbelievable." Abigail Thompson replied softly, "He strives for self-improvent; he usually reads business news and watches football gas the most. I never thought he would have such a fetish..."
"You also didn’t expect he would bring won into your ho, right?" Graham Burke asked.
Abigail Thompson instinctively looked at Hans Geoffrey in the defendant’s seat and answered, "It must be a misunderstanding; he’s not soone without boundaries."
"Not soone without boundaries?" Graham Burke smiled, "Ms. Thompson, do you think you know him well?"
"He is my husband; we’ve known each other for seven years."
"You’ve known him for seven years but didn’t know he was fraternizing with won in sexual chat groups." Graham Burke questioned her, "Despite that, do you still think you know him well?"
Abigail Thompson pressed her lips together and said with difficulty, "Even so, he wouldn’t murder—he’s not that kind of person..."
Graham Burke’s eyes turned cold, and he smirked, "He wouldn’t murder? Then what is this?"
He suddenly raised a photo of Sophia Wilson with her throat slashed!
The bloody visual impact made Abigail Thompson instinctively turn away, frowning and covering her mouth, showing extre discomfort.
Graham Burke kept pressing: "Ms. Thompson, even after seeing these photos, do you still firmly believe your husband didn’t commit murder?!"
Marcel Jefferson beca anxious and whispered to Purple Sumrs: "Object quickly!"
Purple Sumrs remained dazed.
She stared straight at Abigail Thompson on the witness stand, as if frozen, unresponsive even after Marcel Jefferson called several tis.
Marcel Jefferson beca extrely anxious, stood up, and shouted: "Objection! Your Honor, considering the witness’s special physical condition, please imdiately end the prosecutor’s oppressive questioning!"
The judge slightly nodded and looked at Graham Burke: "Prosecutor, please mind your questioning manner."
Graham Burke’s eyes revealed disdain. He arrogantly said: "Your Honor, I’m done."
"Does the defense have any questions?" The judge asked again.
Yet, Purple Sumrs did not respond.
Marcel Jefferson was bewildered, completely unable to understand Purple Sumrs’ situation!
The judge doubted: "Defense lawyer?"
Marcel Jefferson lightly pushed Purple Sumrs.
Purple Sumrs finally ca to her senses.
She slowly stood up and walked step by step towards Abigail Thompson.
Seeming incredulous, Purple Sumrs said, "So it really is you..."
