“No,” replied Henry Jason, seeming to have made up his mind all of a sudden, “Mom, I want to try it.”
He knew, of course, that only a compromise would keep this matter quiet. A lawsuit was too conspicuous – unless backed into a corner, who would want to go to court?
But a compromise needed agreent from both sides. If Chloe Bennett only wanted money, that would be easier. But what if she demanded sothing that he couldn’t provide? What then?
Chloe Bennett hadn’t listed her exact demands just yet. The sole reason being she was waiting to see what the Jason Family’s biggest offer might be.
This tortured Henry.
It wasn’t just his personal humiliation and compromise, but that his family had ended up in this position too.
Purple Sumrs had paved a path and promised to get started on the investigation, giving Henry a glimr of hope.
Her young age had made him hesitate, but at this mont, Purple Sumrs had salvaged what was left of his dignity. He wouldn’t have to toss aside all his pride to negotiate a humiliating settlent.
“Mom, I know you’re worried and you don’t trust the Prominence Law Firm,” Henry said. “But a compromise might not necessarily bring a better outco than right now. It could possibly place in an even more embarrassing situation. I don’t want to – nor can I admit to – sothing I haven’t done. Otherwise, this stain will remain with all my life. Even if I lose this lawsuit, I will continue to appeal until the truth cos out.”
Mrs. Jason fell silent before saying softly: “Ms. Sumrs appears reasonable in her argunt and has a clear train of thought. Perhaps she does have sothing extraordinary about her.”
Zara Jason began to understand.
At first, she had assud that Purple Sumrs rely knew a good law firm and recomnded it to her brother. But from the current conversation, it sounded as though… Purple Sumrs was personally handling the case?
How could that be? Wasn’t it supposed to be so unknown but brilliant lawyer? Mrs. Jason had always taught her that there were hidden talents among the ordinary, which is why Zara had urged her family so strongly to choose the Prominence Law Firm.
Now, Zara felt edgy.
Did she make a mistake?
Recalling the words Jade Carlson had spoken on the phone, Zara felt even more worried.
While her mother and brother were talking, Zara quietly retreated to her room and called Laura Sumrs.
Though they were classmates, the girls had their own cliques. In fact, she wasn’t close to Laura, and had to spend quite so ti searching for her phone number.
The call connected as soon as she dialed.
“Zara Jason?” Slight anticipation was evident in Laura Sumrs’ voice. “How are things going on your end? Have you visited the Prominence Law Firm?”
Zara bit her lip, not answering her question, but instead, asked, “Laura, could you tell more about…what kind of person is this Purple Sumrs from your family?”
“Her?” Laura voice raised a little, “Her mom was originally my grandfather’s nurse. Who would’ve thought that she would end up having a child while nursing him? My grandpa had four sons and no daughters. Could it be the woman deliberately made him happy by adopting a baby girl from outside? That’s Purple Sumrs.”
Laura spat out in disgust, “She’s an illegitimate child. She’s stirred up trouble in our ho and disrupted our peace. She dropped out of middle school and even insisted that my dad fund her education at Grey’s. Isn’t that ridiculous?”
Upon hearing the phrase “dropped out of middle school,” Zara felt her head buzzing, and her heart chilled…
“It’s all because of Purple Sumrs that your brother is in this ss,” Laura declared confidently. “Her reckless recomndation of a law firm put off other lawyers who deed themselves above the case. Hence, they refused to take up your family’s case. Purple Sumrs is a troublemaker!”
She wanted to plant a seed of doubt in Zara’s mind.. If anything happened to Henry in the future, this seed would remind the Jason family that it was Purple Sumrs who had caused their downfall!
