Chapter 1144: Chapter 1144: A Dog_1

The elderly woman’s eyes conveyed her confusion.

She was of advanced age, with limited education from her early years, only aware that prosecutors wear badges with specific designs, much like the badges on police uniforms.

Purple Sumrs had no such insignia, was heavily pregnant, and still an intern.

The old lady was unsure if the other party could help her.

She hesitated before saying, “It’s not about money… I want him to stand trial.”

Indeed, just as her colleague had said, the old lady’s objective was not money. She sought justice for her dog, a proper explanation.

This was actually a very simple notion, yet in today’s legal society, it presented difficulties.

Laws are established to protect human rights; at their core, they serve humans. How could they punish a person over an animal?

Purple Sumrs thought for a mont, then asked her, “May I see that photo of yours?”

The photo was kept close, in her pocket, and the elderly woman carefully took it out and handed it to Purple Sumrs.

A common 6-inch photograph captured an old woman stumbling forward with a bag of plastic bottles at sunset, followed by a small white dog with a mineral water bottle in its mouth, tail raised, looking quite cheerful.

The shooting angle was unique, with excellent light and color; it was a professional-level photographic work, deeply moving.

“Old lady, who took this photo for you?” asked Purple Sumrs as she handed back the photo.

“A college student. She said she wanted to post it online. I don’t really understand…” the old woman spoke slowly, “She’s a good kid, kind-hearted. Every ti she ca to see , she brought ham sausages for Dobby.”

The old lady took back the photo, her fingertips gently caressing the spot where the dog was, her voice hoarse: “They said it’s just a dead dog, the defendant has already confessed, the judge won’t spend ti on a trial… but I feel that this is wrong, it’s just not right. I don’t understand those laws, but it just feels so wrong. Dobby died, how could it all co down to just 75 dollars…”

After finishing, the old lady sighed deeply, a sign of powerlessness, as if she held no hope.

Purple Sumrs pursed her lips and said, “Old lady, let’s try again.”

At worst, it would remain the sa; trying again would be no significant loss.

Reflecting on this, the old lady slowly nodded her head, then squinted at Purple Sumrs, “You are… which prosecutor?”

Purple Sumrs stood a little straighter, her clear bright eyes shining as she smiled and said, “My na is Purple Sumrs Simonson. I’m still an intern now, but I’ll beco a prosecutor in the future!”

The old lady smiled slightly, admiring her, “To be a prosecutor at such a young age, that’s quite remarkable.”

Purple Sumrs just smiled.

Being a prosecutor was not so remarkable, but she dearly hoped to beco a remarkable one.

In the case of the pet abuse, Purple Sumrs filed a lawsuit with the court.

The judge sat on his elevated bench, perusing the docunts in his hands, puzzled, then looked up at Purple Sumrs, “What’s this about? A dog… died?”

Purple Sumrs nodded, “Yes, Your Honor, as you can see.”

The judge looked toward the other side, his eyes questing.

The defense lawyer stood up with a look of resignation, “Your Honor, my client has already pleaded guilty.”

“You haven’t reached a plea agreent?” asked the judge.

Purple Sumrs replied, “Your Honor, we were unable to reach a consensus on sentencing and compensation.”

The defense lawyer almost sighed, “Your Honor, we cannot accept a prison sentence.”

The judge was also a bit confused, “What do you an?”

“She wants my client to go to prison,” the lawyer explained reluctantly. “It’s just a dog, Your Honor. We can only accept a certain amount of compensation.”

Purple Sumrs continued formally, “Your Honor, I believe it was not just any ordinary dog. The defendant, by extre ans, brutally damaged a specific nto with symbolic personal significance, causing trendous harm to the victim’s family. I request that the court formally convene for a trial.”
