Chapter 1097: Chapter 1097: Utilizing_1
Norton Young said it was a win-win situation.
“I didn’t harm anyone, nor did I cause anyone any loss,” he repeatedly stressed. “I haven’t hard anyone!”
“But you took advantage of !” Purple Sumrs said in a low voice.
“How can this be considered taking advantage?” Norton Young beca flustered, earnestly explaining. “I was indeed wronged, wasn’t I? I didn’t rape her, and you defending is reasonable, right? How can that be considered taking advantage? This isn’t taking advantage, this… this is helping.”
He didn’t understand why Purple Sumrs’s complexion looked so awful. He said again, “You can defend those who have committed cris, so why is it taking advantage when it cos to defending ? Why can’t you help ?”
To Purple Sumrs, Norton’s words were more grating with each utterance. She felt that sothing was wrong—maybe she shouldn’t have let him into her car, much less ask him these questions!
This is absurd.
This is absurd!
Purple Sumrs took a deep breath and said, “Norton, please get out of the car.”
Norton’s face showed embarrassnt. After sitting for a while, he hesitated. “Will you report ?”
Purple Sumrs pursed her lips, saying nothing, her expression also taut.
“You really want to report ?” Norton could hardly believe it.
Seeing Purple Sumrs’s expression, Norton felt she was ready to betray her own for the sake of righteousness, and his face couldn’t hide his anger. “Do you know how hard it is for soone like to get established in Kingsley? I took the exam five tis! I’m nearly thirty years old, and I still don’t know how many more tis I have to take the civil service exam. The best prospect for my future is to beco a lawyer, but do you know? No teacher is willing to write a recomndation letter! I even!…”
He inhaled sharply, his face turning red. After a long pause, he continued, “I might not even graduate. Last sester, I had to retake two courses, I begged everyone, pleaded with teachers, to no avail! I tried live streaming online, persisted for half a year with no success, I’ve made every effort possible, all in vain! All in vain!”
“You’ve been live streaming?” Purple Sumrs looked at him. “Created a false lawsuit, just for that?”
“Just for that?” Norton mimicked her tone, mocking himself with a smile. “You look down on this, don’t you? I know, you wouldn’t understand. You have the ability and resources, how could you understand the struggles of ordinary people.”
His expression gradually beca colder. “Go ahead and report , since I have no future left anyway. And there’s Bridget Stone, her younger brothers and sisters depend on her for tuition, but after struggling in Kingsley for so many years, she’s still just an extra. The money she sends ho isn’t even enough to cover her rent. Go on, report us, send both and her to jail!”
“Get out!” Purple Sumrs didn’t want to listen any longer.
Norton clenched his lips, took a deep breath, and opened the car door, ready to get out, his movent montarily sluggish.
“Purple Sumrs.” He turned to look at her. “Are we… still friends?”
Purple Sumrs didn’t look at him. “We were never friends.”
Norton’s face imdiately contorted with ugliness.
“Fine…” He nodded. “You’re right, we were never friends.”
The car door closed, and Norton walked away without looking back.
Purple Sumrs sat silently in the car, feeling powerless as she closed her eyes.
Look at what she had done.
She had actually participated in a false lawsuit!
Those suspicious testimonies and the missing evidence were all set up by Norton for her; just waiting for her to step onto the stage and perform for him.
This is simply…
Annoyed, Purple Sumrs embraced her head, her mood plumting to rock bottom, steeped in desolation.
Should she expose them?… Such matters wouldn’t lead to an investigation without evidence, and how would people react if she reported soone right after winning their case? Would they think she was involved too? The negative publicity surrounding her had just died down; did she want to stir up more trouble over this?
Various thoughts sward her mind, and Purple Sumrs felt overwheld by annoyance.
