Chapter 1075: Chapter 1075 Fetal Dream_1 Chapter 1075: Chapter 1075 Fetal Dream_1 The house was tidy and clean, and they didn’t need to busy themselves cleaning it. Having walked around inside out, they went to the town market to shop.

They bought Spring Festival couplets and paper-cut for window decorations, along with many fireworks and firecrackers, all in preparation for the New Year.

Alexander saw kerosene lamps for sale at the market and found them novel, purchasing two. He also found handmade cloth shoes interesting and, asuring against his own size, bought several pairs.

He squatted in front of the stall, carefully making his selections with ticulous care, endearingly cute like a big boy.

Purple watched him, feeling that this mont was exceptionally good.

They bought many things and went ho, then put up the paper-cuts on the windows, followed by the Spring Festival couplets after that.

But the couplets wouldn’t stick; the transparent tape was not adhering to the rough cent walls. Just then, their next-door neighbor was also putting up couplets, so Purple asked the auntie from next door for so paste. The auntie, knowing the young couple had just moved in, was very enthusiastic and hospitable and gave them peanuts and chestnuts to eat.

They had hot pot for dinner, which was the safest option for the two of them with limited cooking skills.

After a satisfying al, Purple and Alexander lazily cuddled together in bed, peeling and eating peanuts and chestnuts in each other’s arms.

The old house had no heating or air conditioning, and they burned a charcoal stove in the room. They threw the leftover peanut shells and chestnut skins into the fire, which burned with a crackling sound, carrying the slight fragrance of the shells.

Gazing at the flickering flas, Purple’s mind wandered back to her childhood.

She told Alexander about the fun things she did as a child during the New Year. Back then, she loved to roast everything: sweet potatoes, taro, beans, tangerines, bananas…

Before she knew it, she drifted off to sleep.

Maybe because she spoke too much about food and her cravings, she actually dreamt of two roasted corn cobs lying on the stove, steaming and fragrant.

She reached out to grab them.

Her grandmother stood at the kitchen doorway and said, “You gluttonous cat, be careful not to burn yourself!”

She looked up at her grandmother, who was just as she rembered: dressed in a blue-gray cotton-padded jacket, wearing a floral cotton sleeve protector, with her hair neatly combed, looking like a respectable and capable old woman.

Her grandmother pulled her aside, surveyed her up and down, and noticing so damp marks on her shoes, imdiately scolded her sternly, “Did you go to the riverside to play again? How many tis have I told you, Purple, you have to be obedient! Stay away from the water!”

She then rembered that there was once a blind man in town who did fortune-telling and said that her fate included a water disaster, varying from suffering to losing her life.

Her grandmother was very superstitious, and from then on, she was restricted from going near the riverbank. They always stayed far away from places like water parks and swimming pools.

Her grandmother rambled on with many warnings, but like an oblivious child, she kept her eyes glued to the corn on the stove, not listening to a word.

When the grandmother finally left, she eagerly grabbed the corn from the stove and took a bite.

It was just taken from the stove and should have been very hot, but in the dream, she did not feel the burn and savored it with relish.

As she was eating, she suddenly felt soone tugging at her and looked down to see a child about two years old, looking at her earnestly.

“Do you want so too?” she asked.

The child didn’t speak.

She plucked a few kernels from the corn and fed them to the child.

The child puckered up and chewed with effort.

Worried, she asked, “Do you have teeth? Can you eat corn?”

The child was wholly absorbed and continued chewing diligently.

Becoming anxious, she pressed, “Speak to ! Do you have teeth or not?”

At that mont, the child’s mouth widened, and he shouted loudly, “Mommy!”

In the dream, she was taken aback and suddenly sat up in bed, startled awake!

Alexander awoke imdiately too, gently caressing her back, and feeling so sweat, he couldn’t help asking, “Did you have a nightmare?”

“No, not really…” Purple panted, gradually regaining her composure, “It wasn’t a nightmare… just, just got suddenly scared…”
