Chapter 1012: Chapter 1012: Withdrawal of Charges_1 Chapter 1012: Chapter 1012: Withdrawal of Charges_1 The court fell into an eerie silence.
Purple Sumrs had only asked the witness to share his story, but sohow the atmosphere had subtly shifted, and everyone found themselves holding their breath uncontrollably.
Dion Benson did not answer.
“What’s wrong? You rember Jane McCain’s story, but you can’t rember your own?” Purple Sumrs asked.
Her face still wore a smile, her voice soft and gentle, yet Dion Benson felt a mocking undertone behind that smile, a long-lasting implication in her tone.
“I don’t have any explosive stories to share, just so jokes,” Dion Benson averted his gaze, avoiding Purple Sumrs’s eyes.
“How so?” Purple Sumrs chuckled, “As far as I know, Mr. Benson is a fishing enthusiast, has participated in competitive fishing contests, and has even won awards. Such experiences are quite thrilling to us laypeople.”
Dion Benson’s eyes darkened and he remained silent.
Purple Sumrs took another step forward, pressing on: “Generally, fishing enthusiasts, when angling in the wild, look for their own perfect fishing spots, not just hidden but also likely to yield big fish. Mr. Benson, where is your wild fishing spot?”
Dion Benson’s lips were tightly pursed into a line, his brows furrowed deeply, showing extre aversion to the question.
However, Prosecutor Ian Conner did not object.
Because he too felt sothing was amiss, watching the witness stand with gravity.
“What do you think of Willow River?” Purple Sumrs persisted, “Have you fished there?”
There was no lying about this, for every fruitful fishing trip was commorated with photographs, recording the location and date of the catch, even if Dion Benson didn’t answer, the police could easily find out with a check at the club.
Dion Benson’s face turned from ashen to pale, veins on his forehead bulging as if he was desperately trying to suppress an emotion on the verge of losing control.
“Even if I had gone to Willow River, it doesn’t prove anything…” Dion Benson’s voice was low and trembling, “That river has fine scenery. Jane McCain could go there for a picnic, and I could go there to fish!”
“How do you know it was Willow River?” Purple Sumrs still smiled faintly, “I never ntioned that the catfish were found in Willow River, nor, I believe, was it ntioned in the news. Mr. Benson, how did you know?”
Dion Benson abruptly raised his head, staring at Purple Sumrs in shock!
Purple Sumrs asked, “You killed them, didn’t you?”
Dion Benson exclaid in anger and fear, “I did not!”
“You killed them!” Purple Sumrs raised her voice, assertive and resolute, “You’re familiar with the surroundings of Willow River! You know there are catfish there! You’re adept at steering boats! You killed them and then dared to fra my client for it! Dion Benson, do you dare look into her eyes?! You’ve already taken the lives of two innocent people, do you want to ruin a third person’s life as well?!——”
Purple Sumrs turned to Jane McCain, her words resonating powerfully: “At the ti of the incident my client was only sixteen years old! Sixteen, not knowing the habits of catfish, with no boating skills, and then to dissect two male corpses! Under such illogical circumstances, why was she arrested by the police?
Because of a story! A story that she heard from soone’s lips at a gathering, and this person is the real murderer!”
“I didn’t! I don’t even know them!!!” Dion Benson stood up furiously, roaring in anger!
The courtroom doors suddenly opened, and Allen Rivera hurried in, coming up to Ian Conner to whisper sothing to him.
Ian Conner’s expression changed dramatically.
“Really?” Ian Conner couldn’t believe it.
Allen Rivera handed the docunts in his hand for him to see.
After Ian Conner finished reading, his face had turned ghostly pale.
“Your Honor…” Ian Conner stood up with an embarrassed look, “The prosecution withdraws all charges against Miss Jane McCain.”
The judge’s brows furrowed slightly, “Withdraw the charges?”
“Yes, we found out that Dion Benson had paid two months of dical bills for one of the victims…” Ian Conner looked towards Dion Benson in the witness box, his voice rigid, “The prosecution requests the arrest of Dion Benson on charges of first-degree murder.”
The entire courtroom erupted into an uproar.
