Chapter 687: Chapter 555: Big Cat, Little Cat, Charge!

The straight-line distance from Jiamu Gully to Baisha is not far. If you’re just going to the edge of the Baisha Administrative County, it’s only twenty kiloters through the Hot Spring Valley.

But to reach the westernmost administrative village of Baisha, you must drive from Jiamu Gully Town, detouring along the mountain road on the other side of the High Mountain Valley, covering a distance of less than forty kiloters.

This road is entirely a winding mountain road, with one side being a deep valley and the other a steep cliff. In the most dangerous places, a slight mistake could send you tumbling into the valley or crashing into the mountain wall.

Without traffic jams, the forty kiloters of mountain road can be covered in forty to fifty minutes. With beginner drivers, you could be stuck for one or two hours.

“Last ti I went with a colleague to their village, we were stuck on this road for over two hours. The two drivers mishandled the passing, and their doors scraped and locked together. We suggested they co out and do a quick fix, but those stubborn ones refused, insisting on waiting for the traffic police to determine responsibility before moving the vehicles.”

Their doors were so badly scraped they couldn’t open, and despite being drenched in sweat, they couldn’t separate the cars without causing further damage. In the end, the owner of another vehicle got fed up and paid to have his car lifted slightly to separate them.

“Even though the road is narrow, there should be so space when passing, right?”

“Sigh, neither had good driving skills, and the other driver’s skills were even more frustrating. Even when seeing soone already on the outer curve, they didn’t slow down but insisted on squeezing past, leading to the ss.”

Chatting along the way, they arrived at Upper Baisha Village, which is under Baisha County.

There is a distance of about thirty kiloters between Upper Village and Lower Village. In the past year or two, village road connectivity policies have greatly improved the road conditions between their villages. Now it’s just about two lanes wide, which is far better than the old stone and farm machinery roads.

Yin Li rembered when he was studying, visiting their village with classmates. The bus could only go to the village outskirts, and going into the village required a two-kiloter mountain road walk, so muddy it could peel the soles off your shoes.

Now, although the old village remains in the mountains, many houses have been built along the highway, and essentially, most villagers from Upper Village have moved out to live there.

The ones staying in the old village are the elderly, and once their generation passes away, the old village will be completely abandoned.

“Those two hunter families haven’t moved. They’ve cultivated the village’s abandoned lands to plant potatoes, corn, and sweet potatoes, and they’ve raised many sheep and chickens. Because they’ve planted and raised so much, they suffer quite a bit.”

Though villagers moving along the highway lost land resources, most opened vegetable patches nearby, and the young ones went out for work, leaving hos to the elderly and children.

Chen Ying and the others parked in front of the village committee office. Getting out of the car, they imdiately heard the sound of slamming tables and chairs.

“Why don’t you go up the mountain and see how those monkeys and wild boars have wrecked things? All you tell us is to stay calm, why don’t you tell those beasts to calm down?”

Chen Ying and Yin Li exchanged looks and followed the sound to the office at the end, where chaos unfolded.

“Bang, bang, bang,” Chen Ying knocked on the door a few tis. “Excuse , I’m Chen Ying, a veterinarian from the Jiamu Gully First Aid Station, assigned by the State Forestry and Grassland Bureau to help handle the wild boar issue.”

The commotion in the office subsided, and a farr-looking man eyed Chen Ying suspiciously.

“I heard pig hunting teams have several people, and the bigger ones have dozens, with lots of high-tech equipnt. What can a single veterinarian do? Take care of wild boars or deliver piglets?”

“If you need postnatal care for sows, I can also lend a hand.”

Chen Ying nodded calmly, leaving the man unsure how to respond.

A middle-aged man in the back finally managed to clear his path between two people and walked over to Chen Ying, extending his hand. “Dr. Chen, I’ve heard a lot about you. Are you here to help our village with the wild boar problem?”

“Are you Director Xin? I’ve been commissioned by the State Forestry and Grassland Bureau to co with Vice Director Yin and check the situation.”

Yin Li also shook hands with Director Xin and introduced himself.

Last ti Yin Li visited, he didn’t et Director Xin, as another village official hosted him.

“The village has been extrely busy lately, overseeing spring planting, implenting water conservancy projects, and frequent disturbances from wild boars and monkeys, causing injuries. Doctor Liu from the dical office has gone to the town to apply for vaccines.”

With already limited staff in the administrative village, all issues need addressing, making personnel allocation a struggle.

“Are you really here to help with the wild boars?” The old farr ca over again, trying to grab Chen Ying. “Co with to handle it now.”

Chen Ying glanced at Director Xin and saw him looking helpless.

“The old man built a mushroom house up on the mountain to grow shiitake mushrooms, but…”

“But as soon as it was set up, the monkeys damaged a tenth of the mushroom bags. After finally driving them away, wild boars ca and treated the mushroom house like a buffet,” a slightly younger man next to him smiled bitterly. “Director Yin, Dr. Chen, if you can help, we would really appreciate it.”

“This is Xiao Lin from our agricultural technology station, helping the old man with shiitake cultivation.”

Chen Ying nodded. “Let’s go take a look first.”

Calculating ti, Leopard Sister and the others should have arrived by now. Maybe climbing the mountain now could be a good ti for them to replenish so energy.
