Embarrassnt is the main the at this mont.
Chen Ying silently released his grip, putting the white snake back on the tree, then stepped back two paces.
The veil of night hid his ears, which turned beet red in an instant, only visible to those near him.
The white snake stiffened for a mont on the tree, then fled away at its fastest speed ever.
This one grab left both man and snake with a shadow.
After being stunned for a mont, the group burst into laughter once more.
But this incident also reminded everyone to be extrely cautious when going out to relieve themselves at night.
You might scare off a snake, but if a leech latches onto you by accident, then you’ll be in tears.
The Big White Monkey simply decided to stay and mixed in to get a spot in Chen Ying’s tent.
Several female team mbers would groom and clean its fur in their spare ti, and in just a few days, the monkey looked brilliantly white.
It’s quite well-behaved too, taking turns to carry backpacks for the female team mbers. When they wouldn’t let it, it would look so pitiful, biting its fingers with teary eyes, which almost no one could resist.
It truly confird the saying: a beastman never serves as a slave, unless you provide food and shelter!
The girls who can co out to do field research aren’t picky. (Excluding those in internship.)
The entire team lived by the streams at the foot of the mountain for nearly ten days, discovered two unnad plants, and found an albino yellow-throated turtle in a recessed stream upstream.
A normal turtle’s back shell is a rather deep yellow-brown, with clear markings visible on the shell. But this one was nearly golden, with a slightly transparent texture.
(Normal turtle color)
The one who discovered the turtle was the Big White Monkey. When it accompanied Dao ihua to search for plants, bored, it went into the water to play and pulled this poor turtle from beneath a stone crack.
Curious, it played with the poor turtle, flipping it around and even tried to bite it to test its taste.
Just then, Dao ihua stood up to take a break and upon seeing it, almost had her soul fly out of her mouth.
These past days, when Chen Ying worked on his studies, she had been listening in, and she had never heard of a tortoise of this color.
Regardless of whether it was a rare species or not, she grabbed it first to take a look.
Chen Ying was not far from them, at the top of the stream’s cascade.
Hearing Dao ihua call him, Chen Ying quickly ran down, took a glance, and confird it was an albino turtle.
"Shouldn’t an albino turtle be pure white like jade? Why is this one golden?"
Others, attracted by the commotion, ca over curiously to take a look, puzzled.
"An albino turtle has an absence of tyrosinase in its body, unable to form lanin, hence its skin and shell are white-yellow, and its iris and choroid contain no pignt, making its eyes blood red. So artificially controlled albino turtles are mostly white, like those albino Brazilian, albino Chinese turtles sold online."
Chen Ying took this albino turtle to find the professor.
Following this, the work of taking full-body asurents and samples from the turtle didn’t require Chen Ying’s involvent.
The professor, excited, patted Chen Ying on the back, insisting he was a man with a halo of luck and strongly invited him to participate in his other projects.
"Wasn’t this thing discovered by Brother White Monkey..."
Soone quietly comnted, only to receive a glare from soone nearby.
"You know it was Brother White Monkey who discovered it, and haven’t you thought, would Brother White Monkey be here to help if Mr. Chen weren’t here? Haven’t you been here before, and did you encounter Brother White Monkey then?"
Naturally, there’s so jealousy, any normal person would feel it. If you discovered it, it would greatly increase your significance in the team and even give you a higher place in the paper rankings.
But you need to have self-awareness, right? Can you command Brother White Monkey?
Chen Ying had long learned not to take these words to heart, treating them as if he hadn’t heard any stray comnts.
Perhaps his luck had run out, because in the next three days, aside from so findings in plants, there were basically no new animal discoveries.
And since most of them were researchers in zoology, with only two or three in entomology and botany, if there were no findings, they could only call it a mission and head back.
Unknowingly, nearly twenty days had passed since they began their field research.
They resupplied twice, yet their exploration progress into the Grand Canyon hadn’t even reached one percent.
There was no way around it; even the Big White Monkey didn’t dare to venture too deep.
Last ti, Chen Ying wanted to go one more peak further with two others, but the Big White Monkey dragged him back, not permitting them to go in, nearly carrying Chen Ying back on its shoulders.
In places where even local residents feared, Chen Ying dared not recklessly charge in unless he had a professional exploration team with top-notch pioneering qualifications backing him.
On the night before their return, Chen Ying accompanied Dao ihua to mark a mutated orchid.
When they leave, they plan to take a branch back to try cultivating it.
Dao ihua’s skill at division is as proficient as Chen Ying’s expertise with a scalpel; she can divide a plant without harming any other parts.
Having marked it, the two stood up intending to go back, when they vaguely saw two eyeballs above them.
Dao ihua’s foot slipped slightly, hitting Chen Ying’s arm, and she quickly grabbed him.
"Above us, there seems to be an animal."
"It’s a Little Golden Cat, don’t worry, it’s just purely curious about what you’re doing."
This little guy had been here for quite a while, holding a Mouse Bar beside its paw, like a human nibbling on sunflower seeds while watching the scene unfold.
This scene had happened around Chen Ying more than once, but this ti the onlookers were quite special.
The Golden Cat remained the sa species, only differing in the color of its fur coat.
But this particular Golden Cat was unusually unafraid of humans.
As for Little Jin, it’s because it was saved by humans and grew up with them. Although it later grew freely in the wild, it wasn’t inherently fearful of humans.
However, wild cats are not exactly ta creatures.
This cat had been active here for five or six days, with excellent hiding skills. Even the Big White Monkey didn’t notice its presence.
Chen Ying only noticed it there by chance because of the fresh carcasses of small rodents. Upon closer observation, he found its presence.
Following the principle of mutual non-disturbance, Chen Ying did not say much, but gave a private reminder to the professor.
After staring down the Little Golden Cat for a while, Chen Ying pulled Dao ihua to head back to the campsite.
Who knew that the Golden Cat would suddenly jump down and block their way.
"What do you want?" Chen Ying shielded Dao ihua behind him and bent slightly to look at the beautiful young Golden Cat.
"ow, what are you playing?"
Chen Ying was stunned, play what?
"There are so many two-legged beasts here looking for things, finding them, then putting them back. What are you playing at?"
The curious voice was very clear. After owing a few tis, the Golden Cat boldly approached Chen Ying, "I also want to play."
Chen Ying frowned, looking down at the coquettish Golden Cat.
Are you sure this isn’t a house cat? Even dostic pet cats aren’t this good at being coquettish.
"You play with , and I’ll catch mice for you. I know where the tastiest, most abundant mice are."
"Thanks, but I don’t eat those things."
"ow, then what do you eat? I’ll catch it for you."
Chen Ying simply squatted down on one leg, extending his finger toward the Golden Cat.
"Why do you insist on playing with you? Don’t you need to find food or go search for a mate?"
"No, I eat well on my own. Why should I find a mate to hunt for?"
This... seems a bit off. Do felines feed their mates by hunting? Most felines wouldn’t do this, right?
Even Little Jin only hunted for Jinya when she was unwell. Usually, they hunted together.
Is there sothing wrong with this Golden Cat?
"It’s too late today. How about I play with you tomorrow during the day?"
Suppressing his curiosity, Chen Ying decided to play with it when it was daylight, if the Golden Cat was still around, to try and explore how it was so good at being coquettish.
The Golden Cat presumably knew that these two-legged beasts needed to sleep at night and did not forcibly prevent Chen Ying from returning. It even secretly avoided everyone, sneaked into Chen Ying’s tent, and wandered around.
The Big White Monkey showed its teeth upon seeing it enter but silently closed its mouth at the mont of the little cat’s cute head tilt.
The Golden Cat was quite bold, and after wandering around, it found that the Big White Monkey had its own blanket and pillow and unceremoniously lay down on the Big White Monkey’s blanket, leisurely wagging its tail.
The Big White Monkey felt wronged, sighed, shrank back, and lay on its side.
When Chen Ying finished washing up and returned to the tent, the gold-red fur of the Golden Cat was particularly conspicuous under the warm yellow light.
The Big White Monkey pouted in grievance when it saw Chen Ying co in.
Chen Ying patted his forehead, went out to find Dao ihua, and got a small blanket to cover the Big White Monkey.
Dao ihua followed him, peeking through the tent gap, seeing the aggrieved Brother Monkey and the audacious Golden Cat, and chuckled.
The small tent was getting more crowded, and fortunately, the White Bear wasn’t there, or they would have to sleep under the sky.
Though small, the cat had a big temper and poor etiquette.
At night it slept next to the Big White Monkey, co morning it erged from Chen Ying’s sleeping bag.
Luckily it was relatively clean, otherwise, fleas and lice would have driven Chen Dade mad.
On the last day of field research, everyone relaxed and looked at what they liked; consider it a break. Once back, they would have data, papers, and reports to review, so they couldn’t relax for a month.
Chen Ying and Dao ihua accompanied the Golden Cat, taking the Big White Monkey to climb over the cascade to see the scenery.
The so-called cascade was actually just a ten-ter long, about five-ter difference in height dirt slope.
At the top was a patch of grass a few dozen square ters wide, with a stream gurgling out from a crack in the middle of the mountain wall.
To the right facing the mountain wall was the foot of another mountain, with a giant rock lying across the grassland, leaving about a ten-centiter gap on the left, leading up to another hundred-ter high cliff.
Behind the boulder seed to be another patch of grass, though a tree was growing slanted, conveniently blocking the view.
The rock was more than ten ters high, not too difficult to climb onto, but unnecessary.
The Golden Cat easily slipped through the gap, ran to the other side to fiddle for a while, and then brought back a plump rabbit to invite them to eat.
After Chen Ying politely declined, the little creature sighed, seemingly saying how hard to feed these two-legged beasts were.
