Chapter 432: Chapter 417 Tragedy of the Leaping Elf_4

Chen Ying turned her head and called out to Dao ihua, asking if she was coming along. Dao ihua promptly stood up and answered that she would.

After apologizing to several sisters-in-law, Dao ihua caught up with Chen Ying and the others.

“Here, in addition to the one you brought in, we’ve rescued two more. One of them fell and broke its leg while jumping and hadn’t landed properly. It’s been half a month now; the veterinarian said there’s no serious issue, just to observe a bit more. If there’s no problem with running or jumping, it can be released back into the wild.”

“And the one from before, it’s gone?”

“Yes, it’s gone. It ca back twice, then never returned.”

Separation brought so sadness, but Sonam also felt happy for the Przewalski’s gazelle—after all, living with its herd was its best guarantee of survival.

Dao ihua had passed by this area a few tis but had never seriously co down to look.

Upon discovering the grassland was divided by fences into small pieces, she felt a bit baffled.

Such a asure could clarify the boundaries of each family’s grassland, but for the wildlife, wasn’t it a form of enclosure in disguise?

Chen Ying glanced at her and whispered a few words to Sonam.

Sonam looked at him, then at Dao ihua, and called over a teenager, speaking a few words in the local language. The teenager nodded and ran off, returning after not too long with two horses.

“You know how to ride, right?” Chen Ying, influenced by novels, assud that wealthy youths like her must have learned horseback riding, polo, and various arts from a young age.

But in reality, Dao ihua’s experience with horseback riding was indeed very limited; she mostly traveled by car or plane. There weren’t many places suitable for horseback riding in the Southwest Region.

She had ridden elephants, but unfortunately, there weren’t any here. ┓(´∀`)┏

The horses, which the youth led over, were gentle. With Sonam’s help, Dao ihua successfully mounted the horse and trotted a few steps, finding it alright, and gave Chen Ying an OK gesture.

To accommodate her, the group didn’t ride too fast and stopped next to the gazelle reserve. Pointing at a broken fence ahead, they explained that it was a passage made for the Przewalski’s gazelles.

This kind of channel was unjumpable for ordinary livestock but navigable for Przewalski’s gazelles, effectively preventing the livestock from straying while not hindering the movent between gazelle herds.

Walking along the channel, one could see so man-made facilities designed to provide food and water for the gazelles.

“Even though we are trying our best to help them, animals are not humans after all; they might not use the safe passages for various reasons and prefer to jump fences. A net fence is still alright—if they can’t jump over it, they won’t get caught on it. Previously there were no net fences here, only barbed wire, and you would often see gazelles hanging from them.”

It was precisely because it was so shocking that Sonam and his brothers decided they had to start taking action to help and treat the gazelles.

Dao ihua listened intently to the conversation between Chen Ying and Sonam while taking dozens of photos with her phone.

On the far side opposite them, a group gathered, seemingly in an argunt.

Chen Ying looked toward Sonam, who gazed grimly in that direction.

“That’s where they set up a temporary wire fence on their own, and it’s also where we found the dead gazelle and fawn today.”

Dao ihua looked at him in surprise, then back at Chen Ying. Eventually, she frowned and narrowed her eyes, gazing at the gathering spot where more and more people were paying respects to the lost Przewalski’s gazelles.

“They’re now demanding the imdiate removal of the fence. If that’s not feasible, at the very least, the barbed wire must be taken down. But the owner refuses, claiming they paid for the barbed wire, and if it’s removed, they want compensation.”

“Isn’t this an established conservation area?”

“Yes, but they built the fence on their own property. They’re saying they’ve lost several sheep and suspect that wolves are stealing them, insisting on having that fence.” At this point, Sonam was so frustrated he was grinding his teeth, yet there was nothing he could do.
