"Little guy, how co you sll like my child?"
Chen Ying was stunned for a mont, his finger pointing to his own nose.
"Are you, talking about ?"
He's the little guy? Not afraid to say, he's much older than this panda!
"You're so tiny, if not a little guy then what, a big guy?"
The giant panda slowly walked over, and when it was still a few steps away, it sat down with a thud.
"I know you are the two-legged beasts from the mountain below." The giant panda scratched its chin, "I was planning to look for you, but I forgot by the ti I got here. The bamboo here is really tasty."
With this foodie trait, if it's not Sesa's mom, I'll eat my hat!
Taking a deep breath, Chen Ying whispered, "What do you need from us? What can we help you with?"
"My child fell into a ditch."
Mama Panda said nonchalantly, her deanor and actions not at all like soone whose child was missing.
"It's not dead, I know that." The giant panda seed to understand what Chen Ying was thinking, a smirk appearing, "The little birds told , soone saved it."
Chen Ying continued to be silent, because he couldn't find any point to criticize.
Seeing that he wasn't responding, the giant panda got up again to continue eating bamboo, not at all like the irritable Mama Bear described by ndun'er.
Chen Ying chased after it for a couple of steps, squatting down to continue chatting with it and tentatively reaching out to touch its neck.
"Um, I wanted to ask, do you also have a daughter whose territory is right around here?"
The giant panda crunched on a few tender bamboo shoots and then scratched its ear.
"Seems like it. I've had quite a few children, most of them were born around here, but where they went when they grew up, who knows."
It continued to break off a few tender bamboo shoots and stuffed them in its mouth, then casually asked Chen Ying.
"That child, the one that fell in the ditch, is it still alright? You humans have baby formula, can I taste so?"
"Where did you hear about humans having baby formula?"
"From a young girl. On the other side of the mountain, she said she was raised by humans and then released back into the mountains. I taught her to find water in the snow, and in exchange, she told a lot about humans."
Chen Ying squatted down and took out baby formula and a water bottle from his backpack, mixing up the baby formula while chatting with the giant panda.
The water was boiling hot in the morning and kept warm in a thermos, perfect for mixing with the formula now.
The giant panda munched on bamboo leaves, its eyes fixated on the bag of milk powder in Chen Ying's hands.
"But she said she had little contact with humans, mostly just stories from her mom. Also, she ntioned you humans like to poke us with sharp things, then give us tasty things after."
The giant panda munched on bamboo and looked at Chen Ying, extending a paw toward him.
"If you poke , will you give sothing tasty?"
Chen Ying was dumbfounded; they could take blood samples in the wild, but getting them to a lab for testing was the biggest issue.
However, Chen Ying felt that this giant panda didn't seem averse to humans and was quite curious. Perhaps, if possible, it could be persuaded to visit the Rescue Station for a tour and to contribute so biological samples.
"I don't have that here with , but what if you co down the mountain with ? I can prepare tasty stead buns for you and, while we're at it, pick up your child?"
The giant panda shook its head: "Don't want to go, it's nice here. Why don't you continue to take care of that little guy for ? He may be a bit slow, but he's sturdy, and he should grow to be as strong as his dad."
How much must one dislike their own child to say that?
Chen Ying poured the mixed milk formula into a stainless steel bowl and gave it to the giant panda, adding a bit of honey for sweetness, which was just to the giant panda's taste.
Mother panda held the stainless steel bowl and gulped it down in a few mouthfuls.
It licked around its mouth, its eyes brightening a bit.
"It's really quite tasty, how about I accompany you for a few days? Can you provide baby formula every day?"
This change of attitude, isn't it too quick?
Before there was Grandpa Gao, who was dead set on eating regular als, and today there's a mother panda willing to "sell herself" for baby formula.
Chen Ying glanced back at Yin Li and the other two keeping watch not too far away and walked over.
"That giant panda should be Sesa's mother, I saw signs of nursing on its abdon. It seems to be very interested in the creamy milk, you think we could lure it down the mountain?"
"Why would we want to deceive it into coming down the mountain? That doesn't seem right, aren't we supposed to minimize interference with the wildlife's habitat?" Master Lin was a bit resistant.
"The principle is that, but we could let it go down to collect so biological samples, then return the little bear to it, and also put a tracker on it before releasing it back into the mountains, which would help us gather information."
Chen Ying couldn't exactly say that the mother panda herself wanted to co down to deceive and drink.
Besides, he hadn't suggested keeping the giant panda at the rescue station indefinitely. Once it was confird that Sesa was its cub, the mother and child would still need to depend on each other for at least half a year, at least until Sesa learned the skills to survive independently before truly leaving its mother.
Yin Li looked at him, then at the two colleagues, and spoke up in Chen Ying's defense.
"I think it's possible. The higher-ups have instructed us to keep an eye out for signs of unfamiliar giant pandas during our patrols. This mother panda seems to travel between the two reserves every ti she has a cub, and the ecological corridor in between must be used by more animals than just the mother panda. Putting a collar on would let us confirm the path."
Even with patrol planes and drones, it's not easy to observe the ground conditions from the thick forest above.
With a trail to guide them, they could find ways to set up caras at key spots to observe the passing animals.
After discussing it amongst themselves, they also called Director Bai for instructions, and finally decided to try guiding the mother panda down the mountain.
When Jinya and the others learned that the mother panda was coming down the mountain, Brother Leopard turned and walked away.
Mr. Lepus hesitated a bit; his reason for coming down the mountain this ti was to find that female lynx, and he wasn't too keen on moving together with the giant panda.
Jinya looked at her brother, then at Chen Ying, and flirtatiously rubbed back and forth at his feet.
"Can you accompany to find the female first?"
The giant panda also ca over by then and plopped down, yawning.
"Is the female you ntioned another little cat? I saw it this morning. It's been injured and is hiding in a stone cave. I don't know if it'll survive."
The panda, apart from being fond of bamboo rat at, shows no interest in other animals, so after sniffing around the stone cave, it left.
"Can you find that stone cave? Take us there, and I'll ask the Two-legged beast Brother to give you the delicious creamy milk."
"I want two bowls!"
Wow, it knew how to bargain.
Two bowls it is then, deal.
The mother panda stood up, waddling her plump body toward the northwest.
"I hate the sll of that little cat. It rubbed my scent marker all over the stone cave entrance."
Chen Ying glimpsed at Mr. Lepus, whose body tensed up instantly, and bit his lip, not daring to make a sound.
Yin Li slung his backpack over his shoulder and gestured for Master Zhao and Master Lin to follow.
Master Zhao could contain his curiosity, but Master Lin of the equipnt departnt couldn't stop gazing at Chen Ying in amazent as they walked.
To Chen Ying's side, there was a giant panda mother on the left and two agile lynxes on the right.
"He truly lives up to being called a Druid."
Hearing Master Lin's sigh, Yin Li almost laughed out loud.
"He's always been popular with animals; it was the sa back in school. I've heard from classmates that whenever their animals ran off, they would ask Brother Ying to help bring them back. Pigs, sheep, cattle that no one else could stop – he just needed to call out, and they'd obediently follow him back."
To not beco a veterinarian with that kind of talent would have been a waste.
The stone cave wasn't far from here.
And the scent of the female lynx inside was barely detectable.
[Please save the injured sub-adult female lynx within three days, successful rescue grants 1 Skill reward and 1 chance to draw a reward]
Hearing the system prompt, Chen Ying rushed to the stone cave entrance first, taking out a flashlight and carefully shining it inside.
In the corner, a small animal with coarse fur was curled up into a ball, barely showing any signs of breathing.
(Couldn't find a photo of an unwell young lynx, used a picture of a sub-adult lynx as a substitute)
