Chapter 412: Chapter 409: Brother Hai, Is That You? (Extra update, asking for monthly votes)

Guided by a local native, their overnight spot had a pretty good environnt.

With the rescue team’s equipnt being complete and all sorts of contingencies considered, they had a rather comfortable night.

Miss Dao’s tent was next to Chen Ying’s. Perhaps influenced by him, the lady, who hadn’t been able to sleep for several days, actually managed to fall asleep until dawn as soon as she lay down.

“In the morning, we searched the area and found this.”

A rescue team mber pulled out a plastic bag containing a package of compressed biscuits.

Miss Dao took one look and was certain it had been left by her brother. These compressed biscuits were produced by her family’s food factory and were specially supplied to outdoor teams, different from the packaging found in supermarkets.

Seeing this, Miss Dao relaxed a bit. At least there were compressed biscuits to eat, which ant the person was still alive… presumably.

“Once we’ve found the two of them, no matter what, I am going to tell Grandpa to shove them into the military for so proper training.”

Hearing Miss Dao, Chen Ying didn’t quite know how to respond appropriately.

Thinking that the military wasn’t a garbage dump, those two kids couldn’t really be compared to trash either, aside from being recklessly courageous, at least they hadn’t gotten involved in things they shouldn’t have.

Especially in the place where his family was located, dangers lurked everywhere and with such a background, they were always a major focus of so foreign riff-raff.

Miss Dao prattled on for quite a while, and Chen Ying listened very seriously without interrupting her.

These days she was under a lot of pressure. It was rare to have a bit of good news, so let her vent. Otherwise, she would have been overwheld.

They finished breakfast while talking and started packing up to continue on their journey.

At that ti, the Albino Cobra had returned after gorging itself and resud its coiling around Chen Ying.

Miss Dao wasn’t afraid of snakes, but she didn’t dare to provoke them. The snake was highly possessive; it showed an aggressive stance whenever anyone got close to Chen Ying.

They hadn’t traveled far when they saw the snake they had encountered the previous evening.

During the day, the Green forest snake had most of its body resting across tree branches.

Under the sunlight, the snake’s color seed lighter than it had appeared the night before.

(Imagine that the snake was five tis bigger and with a deeper color)

It blocked the path ahead, its eyes calmly watching them.

Even though they knew snakes lacked eyelids and couldn’t blink, being stared down like that didn’t sit well with anyone.

Chen Ying thought for a mont and pressed down on the White cobra’s head, then reached for the Green forest snake.

Old Qing was slow to react. Chen Ying had almost pulled half of its body away before it started struggling as though waking from sleep. The White cobra hissed in frustration and hit Old Qing right on the forehead with its forked tongue.

The large Green forest snake instantly beca docile, allowing Chen Ying to do as he pleased.

“Indeed, Xiao Qing still needs Lady Bai to keep it in line.”

Soone blurted out the remark and suddenly the group broke into laughter.

As the Green forest snake was too long and Xiao Bai wouldn’t allow it to wrap around Chen Ying, in the end, the rescue team leader offered his own body for it to coil around.

But he didn’t understand why they had to bring this snake along. Was it just to pair Xiao Bai with Xiao Qing?

“This Green forest snake should know the whereabouts of the others. Let Xiao Bai have a chat with it.”

How snakes communicated, humankind didn’t understand, and Little Jin didn’t either.

Unable to contain itself, it left the group to explore ahead.

After Xiao Bai and Old Qing had finished their communication and Little Jin still hadn’t returned, team mbers asked whether they should wait, but Chen Ying politely declined.

“Xiao Jin can find , but we might not be able to find it. Let’s go, rescuing people is urgent.”

The Green forest snake took over as guide this ti, but its reaction speed was nowhere near Little Bai’s, angering Little Bai so much that it almost snapped at the snake several tis.

After about half a day’s journey, at 12:30 p.m., near a water source in the forest, everyone sat down to rest and quickly have lunch.

It was impossible to start a fire and cook, so two energy bars, half a bottle of water, and so ready-to-eat at were enough.

Right after they finished eating, Little Jin ca running back with a strange-looking object in its mouth.

Seeing that Little Jin neither ate nor dropped it, and the thing looked quite peculiar, Chen Ying put on gloves to take it out for a closer look.

Little Jin had originally planned to bring it back for Jinya to play with, as these creatures were not found where they ca from and seed quite amusing.

But since the two-legged beast wanted to see, it let him have a look, after all, it couldn’t be eaten!

It wasn’t until Chen Ying had taken it out that he realized the little creature was still alive.

After listening to Little Jin’s cries a few tis, Chen Ying understood that it was a “souvenir.”

Upon closer inspection, he discovered that this seemingly odd little thing was the Li Family’s little flying squirrel, known to be on the list of three notable species.

Though not commonly seen, the little creatures were not rare. What piqued curiosity, however, was that they usually lived in the northwestern Dian Province. Their presence in Gao Ligon Mountain was not surprising, but finding them in the southern Ailao Mountain raised so research interest.

Chen Ying glanced at the little creature in his hand, then at Little Jin who was watching him intently, and finally, with a smirk, returned the little thing to it.

Take it along, you’ll find out soon enough that this souvenir will end up in your stomach sooner or later.

Apart from bringing back the little creature, Little Jin also brought back news of the students’ whereabouts.

Chen Ying was impressed; Little Jin really couldn’t distinguish priorities, could it? If they had known earlier that they had found traces of those guys, why were they still lingering here?

Chen Ying used Little Dao to cut a few branches, his fingers skillfully flipping up and down, and soon he had woven a small cage resembling a cricket cage.

He stuffed the little flying squirrel inside, pulled the vines at the entrance, and the cage imdiately tightened.

He simply tied the cage to his backpack and signaled to Little Jin to confidently lead the way.

You have to admit, being able to communicate really saves energy, at least doubling the speed compared to when Old Qing was guiding.

Everyone also knew that Little Jin had found the trail of the students where it had found the little flying squirrel, and their spirits were lifted, hastening their movents.

An hour later, they arrived at the edge of a mountain cliff. Little Jin signaled to them to take a very narrow path down beside the rock wall, behind a protruding boulder there was a cave where it had found the students’ backpacks.

Here Old Qing also beca active, sliding down from the leader’s body and following Little Jin as it slithered towards the cave.

The path was truly narrow, about twenty to thirty centiters wide, just wide enough to place one’s feet.

Anyone slightly overweight would not dare to step onto this perilous route.

They carefully followed Little Jin and Old Qing around the boulder, with the cave entrance narrow on the outside but widening on the inside.

After everyone had entered one by one, they found that this was the entrance to an underground cavern, about twenty to thirty ters long, with two forks at the end.

Old Qing confidently headed left like it knew the place, and after so thought, Chen Ying decided to follow.

He had only taken a step when Little Jin bit the hem of his trousers, signaling him to take the other path.

Without even half a second’s hesitation, Chen Ying pivoted on his heel and headed right.

Little Bai on his shoulder quickly slid down and then dashed into the left cave at what could’ve been a gold dal-winning Olympic speed.

Chen Ying just glanced back and resolutely continued to follow Little Jin to the right.

After about three to five minutes, they heard the sound of flowing water and the air held a light mist of moisture.

Could it be a hot spring here?

Chen Ying quickened his pace, flashlight in hand, and continued deeper inside.

“Help, help!”

A faint voice ca through, and Chen Ying aid his flashlight in its direction, a bald head catching his eye first.
