Chapter 261: Chapter 261 Who Says a Desert Cat Isn’t a Kitty

“We’re heading back first. You and your brothers need to be extra careful, there are definitely other beasts lurking around here.”

Chen Ying gave a couple of worried instructions, scanning the surroundings, but saw no trace of Er Sha.

Er Sha had left without notice on the third morning after leaving Zhuonai Lake.

Even though Chen Ying knew the little guy had his own way to survive, he just couldn’t let go of his concern.

Initially, he had even thought about taking it back to the rescue station to register it if all else failed. But after it left on its own, Chen Ying beca like a father worried about his child traveling afar, with all the concerns weighing on his heart.

Today, after rescuing a lynx, he inevitably thought of Er Sha, who had clumsily grown up on the rugged path of life.

The lynx they rescued today was a little brother, and Chen Ying gave it a nickna, San Sha.

There’s no need to ask who Big Fool is, Leopard Sister’s real brother, truly deserving of the title Big Fool.

No one could snatch that title away from him.

San Sha didn’t even know when it had climbed up there, saying there was a big creature chasing it; at that mont, its mind went blank, and seeing a post, it climbed without even thinking.

Later, it was so tired and hungry that it didn’t even know when it fell asleep.

When it woke up, those two-legged beasts were already making a commotion.

It was scared and dared not move until Chen Ying rescued it.

Not daring to let it eat or drink too much, Chen Ying prepared so minced at and milk custard for it.

The lynx brother devoured it wildly. After finishing, it didn’t even have the chance to clean its face before closing its eyes.

If Chen Ying hadn’t acted quickly, its face would have nearly smashed into the bowl.

Cai Rang drove faster than Yin Li, racing back to the protection station like a whirlwind.

Upon entering the gate, Chen Ying heard Xiao Song’s voice coming from the building next door.

“Hurry up, stop it!”

Chen Ying got out of the car with the lynx brother in his arms, and before he could steady himself, felt sothing pounce on his head.

Subconsciously grabbing it, whoa, it was soft and chubby with a significant weight.

This commotion woke the lynx in his arms.

The lynx brother half-opened its eyes and saw a tail swaying in front of its nose. Before its mind could even react, it bit down.

“ow aow!”

A shrill, pitiful scream startled Chen Ying, causing him to jerk his hand, and the lynx brother hurriedly let go and burrowed into Chen Ying’s embrace.

Leaning against the car, Chen Ying took a closer look and realized he had caught a young desert cat.

To call it a young one wasn’t entirely accurate; it was about three months old, having passed the infancy stage, but not yet an adult.

Xiao Song peered from upstairs and upon seeing Chen Ying, she scread.

“Brother Ying, when did you get here? Why didn’t you call in advance?”

She hurried downstairs, and the others in the station were stunned.

Wasn’t Dr. Xiao Song engaged to Manager Duanmu? Why was she suddenly so intimate with a strange man?

“Brother Ying, how long will you be staying this ti? Should I call Duanmu over, and we can all gather?”

Xiao Song thought Chen Ying would go directly back to the main center. She had been working overti these past few days to take a few days off to et Chen Ying at the center.

“Probably about a week or so. Don’t talk about that now. What’s going on with this little guy?”

Xiao Song took the desert cat from Chen Ying’s hands.

“I rescued this cat in the wild when I first arrived. It was only half a month old at that ti, infested with parasites, and in poor health. Its mother had died from eating a poisoned mouse, and it might have been lightly poisoned too from the mother’s milk. Luckily, we arrived in ti and saved it back.”

Having been raised here for two months, the little guy had gotten quite brave, jumping around the station and wreaking havoc every day.

Despite being so well-behaved in Chen Ying’s hands, once Xiao Song took it, it scread terribly, and anyone who didn’t know better would think Xiao Song was harming it.

The lynx brother, lying on Chen Ying’s shoulder, reached out to touch the desert cat.

The kitten bit as soon as it opened its mouth, and the lynx brother slapped it away, the desert cat KO’d!

“Stop ssing around, you’re so much bigger, aren’t you ashad of bullying a little kid?”

Chen Ying quickly sidestepped to separate the lynx brother from the desert cat.

“Brother Ying, did you rescue this one?”

“Yes, do you have examination equipnt here? I need to perform an ECG and an ultrasound on it.”

He casually placed the kitten on the table next to him, and Xiao Song led Chen Ying to the dical area’s first-floor examination room.

Aside from her, there were also two dical student assistants.

These two students were in their fifth year of veterinary studies and were interning here, helping to alleviate so of Xiao Song’s workload.

Seeing Chen Ying handling the lynx without using anesthesia, one of the bespectacled students thoughtfully sized him up for a mont.

“Mr. Chen, you are the Mr. Chen from the Jiamu Gully Rescue Station, right?”

“Do you know ?”

“Of course I know. All the classmates at our school know you. We even felt sorry because we couldn’t do our internships at your place to gain more experience since we aren’t in the sa province. But I didn’t expect my luck to be this good, to actually et you here.”

The chubby kid smiled buoyantly.

Another student by his side clearly didn’t know Chen Ying’s na, but he wasn’t foolish either. He secretly picked up his phone to search and his eyes widened instantly.

“Mr. Chen, can I record the inspection process that you do on the lynx? It would be helpful for my studies later on.”

“Sure. Xiao Song, could you help ? The two of you understand the equipnt diagrams, right?”

“We understand so of it, but it’s a bit difficult to do an in-depth analysis.”

The other student, having caught on, was not about to let the chubby kid hog all the glory and hurriedly ca over to adjust the equipnt.

With one recording and the other assisting, along with Xiao Song’s help, Chen Ying felt an unusual ease in his work and simply decided to perform the physical on the lynx brother while also offering so on-the-spot teaching.

From using a stethoscope to palpating, to electrocardiograms and ultrasound diagnostics, every step was one Chen Ying let them perform as well, with specific knowledge points being quizzed and answered on the spot.

Xiao Song also listened attentively. Although these were all basics, the content Chen Ying imparted was deeper than what was in textbooks and also included his experience and techniques, which would be hugely beneficial to their future work.

Initially, they just wanted to get to know Chen Ying better and beco more familiar with him, but as they listened further, the two students truly gave the sa regard as they would in a university lecture, listening carefully, thinking critically, and providing tily feedback.

The only one who seed impatient was the lynx brother.

His belly was bare, and the wind was making his balls cold, oh!

“Let know imdiately once the lab results are in. From the electrocardiogram, it appears that this lynx’s heart function is not very good, and it can’t endure for long when hunting. There’s also a cyst in its lower abdon, near the liver. It doesn’t seem to be getting worse for now, but it requires observation for so ti to be certain.”

Overall, this lynx will probably have to rely on provincial care for its future.

After deworming, they placed it into the first-floor animal shed.

The little guy was sowhat reluctant to part with Chen Ying, but with Chen Ying’s persuasion, it began to curiously explore its temporary little ho.

Coming out of the lynx brother’s animal shed, Chen Ying casually scooped up another animal, and a desert cat owed obediently in his hand.

“This one’s the sister, the one causing trouble earlier was the brother.”

Xiao Song ca over with a food bowl to feed the lynxes and, seeing Chen Ying petting a cat, he smiled and reached out his finger to touch Miss Huang’s forehead.

“They are from the sa litter. When we rescued them, besides their mother, there were also two other kittens’ bodies. I guess out of the litter of four, only these two survived.”

Miss Huang was a little smaller than her brother. She didn’t have to fight for survival like her brother did, probably because she couldn’t out-compete her other siblings for milk.

(June 12, 2021, two one-month-old desert cat cubs were rescued at the Qinghai Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Base, one male and one female. They were nad Master Huang and Miss Huang.)

The cub, hungry and crying, did not realize that this very hunger had saved its life.

“This month marks their third month, and they’ll soon be three months old. A little bigger, around September or October, we plan to release them.”

“Release them in this weather? Is that suitable?”

“It should be fine. Even though they are currently being rehabilitated, we haven’t restricted their movent. My idea is to let them, like Jinya and Little Jin, be unrestricted and let them slowly adapt to life in the wild.”

“That’s one way to do it, but you’ll have to educate the nearby herders and residents, it would be best not to poison the grounds for pest control.”

“We’ve already started campaigning. Now, every village watchman is spreading the word to use physical thods to deter pests instead of poison. Even if poison is utilized, it must be done in designated areas with thrice-daily patrols.”

This way, we can minimize the chance of wild animals ingesting poison and dying from poisoned rats.

Miss Huang was much more well-behaved than her brother, quietly nestling in Chen Ying’s embrace, licking his fingers as if they were her favorite catnip scent.

At three months old, their fur was still predominantly baby fur, soft and fluffy to the touch, like a little cotton ball.

In the courtyard, when the kitten playing in the trees saw his sister lying in the arms of the two-legged beast, he owed loudly and pounced again.

Chen Ying had beco quite proficient at grabbing cats, all thanks to Jinya’s previous training.

“Master Huang, don’t hit your sister, or you’ll lose your ration.”

Being a female, Xiao Song naturally had a soft spot for the little female cat, and besides, compared to the mischievous Master Huang who could make trouble if he went half a day without playing, the dignified Miss Huang who was like a lady from a distinguished family was naturally more adored.

Chen Ying handed Miss Huang in his arms to Xiao Song and, grabbing Master Huang by the scruff of the neck, gave him a thorough petting all over.

He was growing well; it seed he would not need even half a year before being ready for release.

Later, the blood and urine test results for the lynx brother ca back. There was a small problem with his kidneys. It was estimated that he would need three to six months of treatnt before they could know how best to manage him.

But from the blood test results, they had already seen that the little guy even had a mild case of myocarditis.

After packing up the lynx brother’s dical reports and related inspection results and procedures, Chen Ying sent them to the provincial Wildlife Rescue Center. He then had a call with the chief of the dical team at the center.

The other party hoped that Chen Ying would stay and help treat the lynx.

“The dostic dical community is sowhat weak in the field of animal cardiac and visceral surgeries. Dr. Chen possesses this technique and now we have such a case, I hope Dr. Chen will consider my proposal. We do not need Dr. Chen to give up his work at Jiamu Gully. We’ll set up a dical team here, and Dr. Chen just needs to guide the work progress.”

This was essentially offering him two jobs. Chen Ying dared not commit himself and couldn’t outright refuse, so he said he had to report to his superiors before he could respond.

After hanging up, Chen Ying hadn’t even figured out how to broach the subject with his leadership when Yin Li’s call ca through.
