Chapter 217: Chapter 217: Is This a Manifestation of Bone Hyperplasia? (Seeking Monthly Votes)

As he approached, he could see a bird perched on the solar street lamp.

It looked like a bird, but its head shape was a bit peculiar.

Chen Ying didn’t dare to get too close, but based on his instinct from rescuing wildlife, he felt the bird was injured.

He tried several angles but couldn’t get a clear view of the bird, this damn hazy light, it’s good for nothing but atmosphere.

After thinking for a while, Chen Ying decided to find a good position first and risk taking a quick photo.

He needed to see clearly what it was to figure out what to do next.

Luckily, the bird wasn’t startled by the flash.

Upon closer examination, Chen Ying confird it was a bird, and one of its wings was injured and drooping.

This head has a sowhat non-mainstream feel.

(This extra part feels like it’s glued on)

Its whole body covered in black feathers blended perfectly into the night, leaving only its slightly reflective beak visible.

He imdiately sent the photo to Old Gao, who quickly called back.

“Crested Hornbill! Where did you find this?”

“By the river, on a street lamp, seems to be injured. I’m currently near a hotel within the Naban River Basin Protection Zone, not sure if there’s a professional bird rescue here.”

“Wait for ; I’ll send soone to find you.”

Chen Ying hung up and looked at the photo from different angles, it definitely seed like bone overgrowth!

In less than five minutes, a strange call ca in.

It was a woman and she sounded young, claiming to be Old Gao’s classmate.

A doctoral student, that should match well.

She said she was in the city, driving over now and asked Chen Ying to add her on WeChat to send the location.

Her efficient way of handling things was leagues ahead of Old Gao.

Fifteen minutes later, her car arrived.

Chen Ying didn’t know much about cars, but this one had a subtle luxury to it.

Girls from Dian Province, researching science; does every family own a mine or what?

Distracted for a mont, Chen Ying quickly went over to introduce himself.

“I’m alone and not sure how to rescue it, plus I don’t have much experience in rescuing birds and don’t dare to handle it rashly.”

The doctoral student understood and then took out a custom-made tal folding ladder from her car trunk, along with a folding bird cage and a complete set of protective gear.

“Please help hold the ladder; I’ll go up and bring it down. It can’t fly away with its wing injured.”

Despite her petite stature, the doctoral student climbed up deftly and quickly grabbed the bird’s vital part, and it obediently let her carry it down.

“Wing root tear, it looks like it got injured struggling after being caught on sothing,” after a check, the doctoral student took a breath, “fortunately, it should be fine with so care.”

Putting the strange bird into the cage, the doctoral student looked up at Chen Ying and smiled.

“Old Gao hasn’t given you too much trouble, has he?”

This familiar tone felt like she was the woman behind Old Gao.

“I’m his senior, but he always refuses to admit it.”

The doctoral student chuckled, a stark contrast to her earlier deanor, almost like she had split personality.

“I’m Bai ng, a local, I work at the Zhou Managent Bureau, specifically handling bird-related matters. But if you encounter other wildlife issues, I can also ask my colleagues in other departnts.”

It was too late, Bai ng had to take the injured bird to the rescue station for treatnt, after briefly chatting, Chen Ying watched Bai ng leave.

“Old Gao, be honest, what exactly is your relationship with your Senior Bai?”

The other party read but did not reply.

Who’s chickening out, not saying!

The next morning, Chen Ying woke up to over 99 unread ssages, so many that his phone lagged.

From Old Gao’s midnight rants that went up to a hundred.

The guy probably didn’t sleep all night, too busy venting.

There were also dozens from the Liang Mountain Protection Station dical team.

His three Outer Sect disciples sent over twenty photos with one central the: Bao Bao had co, Bao Bao had left, leaving chaos behind!

And incidentally took three kilograms of beef.

“Mr. Chen, that beef, Bao Bao snatched it from the kitchen, head chef didn’t dare to make a peep, let it take the whole bag.”

Chen Ying’s first reaction wasn’t about the beef, but “what about the bag, it didn’t eat it, did it?”

“No, no, Mr. Chen, we managed to distract Boss Leopard and got the bag off.”

Apart from Bao Bao, Ape Mother was a ticking ti bomb.

Hadn’t they had interns team up to give the Baby ape massages and rehab, then yesterday, an intern accidentally pressed too hard, making the Baby ape scream.

“Then you know, up till now, Ape Mother has been stationed at the door, not allowing that intern near the Baby ape. As soon as she sees him approaching, Ape Mother adopts an attacking stance.”

Chen Ying had no solution; if he were there, he could have cald things down, otherwise, the intern had to figure it out himself.

After giving a few tips on how to get closer to Ape Mother, Chen Ying opened their ergency station’s group chat.

Little Sen was being driven to the brink of collapse by Miss ndun’er.

Bamboo leaves must be fresh or she wouldn’t eat them, and she wouldn’t drink her milk unless honey was added. She even fed her favorite stead cornbread to the birds and gave Little Sen a cold glare every now and then.

(ng Er breaking bamboo, People’s Education Edition)

Leopard Sister and Brother Leopard just enjoyed the spectacle and only roared at ndun’er when they got really annoyed.

Chen Ying made a call back to inquire about why ndun’er had run over to the ergency station and how Jiaojiao and Great Bai were.

“Jiaojiao and Great Bai gave up this place to ndun’er, and it seems they took Leo and Little Cub to the bamboo forest behind Huaqiu Valley to practice surviving in the wild.”

Calculating the ti, Leo was also about ready to live independently. After another half year of training, he would leave his mother and live nearby for a while, until he matured or was driven away by other male pandas, gradually moving away from his mother’s territory.

But with Little Cub around this year, Jiaojiao probably would let Leo stay with her a bit longer.

Next year, Jiaojiao would have cubs with Great Bai.

Actually, Jiaojiao showed so signs of being in heat this year, but Great Bai did a great job calming her down and even took on more of the work caring for the two cubs.

Great Bai could easily be nad Father of the Year.

After getting an update and ensuring that, apart from ndun’er’s unstable mood, everything else was normal, Chen Ying packed up the items to be shipped and asked the front desk to arrange for the shipnt.

Three-quarters of the items were shipped out, and the ones with a shorter shelf life were left; he planned to take them out and share them with everyone upon arrival.

Dao ihua was almost on ti.

Today, her complexion looked different; indeed, the urban elite ground themselves down.

On their way to the protection center, Dao ihua casually asked if he had rescued a bird last night.

“How did you know? You’re really well-inford.”

Chen Ying didn’t think much of it and showed her the pictures.

“Just this one, honestly, this is the first ti I’ve seen such an unconventional bird. It looks so peculiar.”

Seeing that he didn’t react at all, Dao ihua pouted but quickly regained her composure.

The rescue center was quite large, mainly focused on rescuing and studying Asian Elephants; the Elephant Garden comprehensive area occupied two-thirds of it.

The remaining third included the office area and other animal rescue and shelter zones.

Dao ihua led Chen Ying to the dormitory building.

It was a three-story building with a concave layout; staircases on both sides in the middle, and balconies on all three sides.

Solar panels were installed on the top floor, the left side was for drying clothes, and the right side had a water tank.

“The accommodations here aren’t great. I arranged a single room for you, it’s a bit small, only about 16-17 square ters, with a private bathroom where you can shower.”

The second-to-last room on the right side of the second floor, number 218, with the key hanging on the door.

“This is the place, let know if you need anything else, and I’ll try to find it for you.”

Chen Ying entered and saw that despite its small size, it had everything necessary.

A 1.2-ter wide single bed, a two-door wardrobe, a desk, two folding chairs with backrests, and a small square coffee table.

The bathroom was simple but clean. The shower head was placed directly in the sink, probably requiring handheld use.

“No problem, this is already very good.”

Chen Ying wasn’t picky. Although the conditions here were a step down from back ho, it was much better than he had expected.

Senior Bai had warned him the previous night that the conditions weren’t great and asked him to be understanding.

But really, what did it matter? In the wild, he could sleep on grass, in tents, or in rock caves; having a bed, a bathroom, and internet was more than enough.

Besides, he wasn’t here on vacation. Most of his ti was spent caring for sick and injured animals; even a five-star room would only be used for sleeping.

Just as he had put down his luggage, Feng Xin had already received the news and ca over to help him unpack.

“Brother Ying, they just rescued a baby elephant at five o’clock this morning. Everyone’s over there helping, so there aren’t many people around here. Let know what you need, and I’ll go find it for you.”

“A rescue for a baby elephant? What happened?”

“We received a call last night, saying a baby elephant was abandoned outside the village. Several rescue teachers headed out in the middle of the night, and it was tough getting it back; apparently, the situation isn’t good.”

Feng Xin sighed, “I used to think the rescue work here would be similar to back ho, but once I arrived, I realized, man, here most of the work relies on manpower.”

While they were talking, soone downstairs was calling Feng Xin.

“Old Feng, Old Feng, are you busy? If not, co give us a hand, will you?”

Feng Xin responded and glanced up at Chen Ying.

Chen Ying picked up his dical kit and patted his shoulder.

“Let’s go and see what’s happening.”

They went downstairs and saw a lean young man in a straw hat making a phone call.

He spoke very rapidly in the local dialect, which they didn’t quite understand.

After he hung up, Feng Xin approached to find out what was going on.

“That baby elephant, it’s not doing well. We can’t determine the specific cause here, so I can only try to contact the zoo veterinarians in the province to see if they can co over and help.”

Their local veterinarians weren’t very experienced yet and were still accumulating work experience. While they could handle routine treatnts, situations like this were challenging.

Chen Ying patted Feng Xin’s shoulder, “Tell him I can take a look.”

Feng Xin nodded, introduced Chen Ying’s credentials, and though the teacher looked at Chen Ying with so skepticism, he agreed.

It was a desperate attempt; maybe he could spot sothing.

The baby elephant was in considerable distress and resisted people coming near; they couldn’t even help clean its wounds.

Chen Ying and Feng Xin followed the lean teacher to the site and saw about a dozen people anxiously trying to calm the frightened, thrashing baby elephant.

The baby elephant’s legs, buttocks, nose, and forehead all had visible wounds.
