Chapter 95: Chapter 86: The Counselor in the Night

On Sunday, Cheng Zhu continued editing photos in the morning and visited his Persistent Visit studio in the afternoon.

He had already been paid at the beginning of the month.

It’s often said the day a company pays its employees can reflect its financial stability.

Getting paid at the beginning of the month ans the company is impressive, before the tenth is sowhat impressive, around the fifteenth ans it’s just average.

Of course, there are also lousy companies that delay salary paynts.

After a surge in orders, the custor service staff had been busy as dogs, so Cheng Zhu had promised everyone bonuses, which he indeed delivered.

...

Upon arriving at the office, Cheng Zhu listened to the keystrokes inside and found them rather pleasant.

Money isn’t a big deal; the main thing is that with every item sold, I help a couple.

I’m just making a tiny bit of money while fulfilling my social responsibilities.

When the boss entered the office area, the overall atmosphere instantly changed.

It’s hard to imagine, given that the boss is younger than everybody else, even much younger, but he still manages to be imposing.

Cheng Zhu glanced at the fortune tree he had been growing, surprisingly, it was thriving.

“Has soone been taking care of it?” he asked.

Wang Haitao, who had recently been promoted to assistant team leader of custor service, quickly said, “Mr. Cheng, I tend to all the office plants every day before leaving work.”

—Here we go again! The dirty wars of the adult office!

Wang Haitao did not say that he specifically tended to the fortune tree but that he took care of all the office plants.

At that ti, Cheng Zhu really did buy six pots of plants thinking it would improve the air and bring more vitality to the work environnt.

He didn’t know much about plants and only learned from Wang Anquan that these were difficult to maintain; his mother had killed similar ones.

Now, he looked around and each plant seed well-cared for.

By tending all the plants, Wang Haitao not only showed his responsibility but also managed to earn so credit without seeming too obsequious.

Of course, what he actually cared about was the boss’s fortune tree!

“Well done, I didn’t know you knew about this stuff,” Cheng Zhu nodded slightly, half-jokingly, half-seriously, he added, “When I buy a big villa in the future, I’ll let you manage the garden.”

“I work fast and will manage it quickly without wasting ti. But Mr. Cheng, you’re definitely going to buy a villa with a large garden in the future, and I haven’t managed a large garden yet,” Wang Haitao imdiately responded, quite eager to try.

Cheng Zhu looked at him, surprised at how quickly the young man was progressing, still a bit clumsy with his flattery, but slightly better than before, not secretly signing up for those deceptive online EQ courses, was he?

Yet, Cheng Zhu found him quite interesting and planned to keep a closer eye on him in the future.

When Cheng Zhu stepped out for a smoke, he invited Wang Anquan as well.

“You co here more often than I do; have you noticed Wang Haitao taking care of the plants?” Cheng Zhu asked.

“No, when I co, it’s always during working hours; he probably does it after work,” Wang Anquan answered.

“Did he ever ntion it in front of you?” Cheng Zhu inquired again.

“No,” Wang Anquan recalled and confird.

“Okay, got it.”

At night, Cheng Zhu went to Yunlai Restaurant for dinner and then planned to return to Technology University.

On his way back, Dong Dong was ssaging him in the group chat.

“Co back quick, Mr. Chen is checking dorms!” urged Dong Dong, the dorm team captain.

“Why don’t you go back and keep studying high school?” Cheng Zhu replied.

Dong Dong: “???”

It’s only eight o’clock, brother. If the counselor cos to the dorm, let him co. What’s it to if I’m not there?

Sotis, when counselors are bored, they roam around the dorms, but it doesn’t matter whether I’m there.

Moreover, military training just ended, and regular classes are starting; it’s normal for the counselor to visit.

You’re so worked up, it’s not like you’re just in your underwear in the dorm, right?

Cheng Zhu slowly made his way back to school, stopping at the fruit shop at the school gate to buy so fruit.

As the dorm’s richest resident, he hadn’t yet treated everyone to a al, though he had mooched a al of crayfish from Mr. Dong.

Unexpectedly, on his way back to the dorm, Dong Dong ssaged him again to hurry.

“Cheng, where are you? Mr. Chen is waiting for you downstairs at the male dorm.”

Cheng Zhu: “???”

No way, this slightly intellectual-looking female counselor with glasses really ca specifically for ?

He walked leisurely along the campus avenue, with no intention of speeding up.

Because he always felt it wasn’t going to be good news.

Walking along, enjoying the campus night air, Cheng Zhu suddenly thought, “She might actually make a good QQ model.”

That intellectual charm, those wire-rim glasses, and that faintly stern expression, tsk tsk.

But he quickly shook his head, feeling that he had been too imrsed in work these past days; damn, not everyone should be considered for a QQ model.

When Cheng Zhu reached the dormitory, he looked up from afar and saw a number of guys on the balcony sneakily watching Chen Jieyu standing under the streetlight.

Her urban sophisticated charm, sothing college girls lacked, was uniquely appealing to many young n of their age.

Dong Dong, that sly dog, was secretly watching from the shadows. Seeing Cheng Zhu leisurely approaching, he waved impatiently at him, signaling him not to keep Mr. Chen waiting!

Cheng Zhu couldn’t be bothered with him, dragging the expensive suitcase Jiang Wanzhou had given him for his birthday the previous year at his usual pace.

Chen Jieyu was wearing a white silk blouse and a knee-length black pencil skirt that day, from which the outline of her full hips could be seen from the side.

Beneath her skirt, she wore stockings and a pair of black shoes with about 3cm heels.

Overall, she sported a mild office lady style.

At that mont, Chen Jieyu also caught a glimpse of Cheng Zhu and slightly turned, looking towards him.

“Mr. Chen,” greeted Cheng Zhu.

She nodded slightly and took a few steps towards the middle of the road, clearly intending to strike up a conversation.

Chen Jieyu glanced at the suitcase Cheng Zhu was dragging and thought to herself, “A Rimowa suitcase, his family must be well-off.”

In her view, if a guy’s family was just okay, he might spend money on clothes and shoes but would never spend so much on a suitcase.

At that mont, a gust of night wind blew past, causing her silk blouse to cling to her body imdiately, accentuating her physical contours.

Chen Jieyu tidied her slightly ssy deep brown hair but heard Cheng Zhu remark, “Did you change your hair color, Mr. Chen?”

She was montarily taken aback but nodded, swiftly lowering her hand that was tidying her hair and clearing her throat.

“I ca to talk to you about running for class committee,” she looked at Cheng Zhu, said, “I wanted to ask you if you were interested in running for any position.”

She had previously hinted at this when she ssaged Cheng Zhu about taking the role of temporary leader during military training.

This was her way of telling him that there was a spot available for him in the committee.

Cheng Zhu directly said, “No, I’m not interested in running for the class committee.”

“Why?” Chen Jieyu looked at him puzzled.

She thought that so students were afraid to be committee mbers because they felt they couldn’t handle the responsibility, were unwilling to stand out, or feared social interactions.

But the young man before her obviously wasn’t like that, as he communicated with her very naturally.

And his reaction to their classmate, Li Xianqiang, was still fresh in her mory.

This guy could suppress others, but no other student could suppress him.

She quite straightforwardly added, “Being a university committee mber is different from middle and high school; there are quite a few hidden benefits, and it can also develop a person’s skills, which helps when entering society.”

“Because I’m not interested, and I don’t have the ti,” Cheng Zhu replied bluntly.

“You’re busy?” Chen Jieyu frowned.

“Yes, I plan to open a shop off-campus, so I might be very busy soon. I definitely won’t be able to take on a committee role, and I think Mr. Chen, you were hoping I would be the class president,” he rested his hand on the handle of his suitcase and looked straight at the woman before him.

“Class president? That wasn’t my intention,” she replied directly.

Nice, nice! Now I know why you’re not exactly popular among the faculty either, you speak too bluntly, and it’s all written all over your face.

—Cheng Zhu cringed for 0.1 seconds.

Chen Jieyu continued to persuade, “I still hope you will reconsider. The sester has just started; there’s no need to rush in opening a shop off-campus, and Technology University also supports student entrepreneurship.”

Cheng Zhu nodded, “Oh, I’ll apply for that later.”

What? You’re planning to open more than just a shop near the campus gate, right?

Chen Jieyu looked up at the young man who was half a head taller than her and continued, “Besides, you’re studying computer science. In this information age, both the school and the local and provincial governnts value online ventures by university students…”

“Oh, the money I’m using to open the shop is what I made online during the sumr,”[Cheng, the suspected wealthy freshman, Zhu]stated indifferently.

Under the streetlight, Chen Jieyu: “Hmm?”
