Chapter 120: Chapter 104: No Ordinary Woman [Seeking Monthly Tickets!]
In the eyes of his parents, Cheng Zhu was a real piece of work.
You say you dote on your sister, fine, but why all these flashy tricks and flowery speeches?
Most of the ti, the tough problems would ultimately end up in Cheng’s and Xu Yun’s hands.
Just look! You took your sister to the arcade, fine, but did you really need to tell her it’s her castle?
Well, it’s her castle, is it? Can I move all the toys back ho then?
Since it’s the castle and this is her ho, it’s just moving places!
Xu Yun couldn’t help but glare at Cheng Zhu, and said to Little Youzi, “We had an agreent, rember? Just because he changed the na of the arcade, you can’t break the promise with Mom!”
Little Youzi argued firmly, “That place is my castle, and it even has my na on it! It’s called ‘Youu Co to Play!'”
“That ans, ‘Little Youzi, co to play!'”
Cheng and Xu Yun: “…”
What a weird place he found, and what a crazy na!
Cheng sat confidently on the couch, legs crossed, beginning to power up his next big tale.
“Ah, actually, there’s sothing… Ah!” He began sighing repeatedly.
Cheng glanced at him sidelong, “If you have sothing to say, spit it out quickly.”
What kind of a ss is their son, do they not know?
Previously, if Cheng Zhu did well in an exam, he liked to play it down at first, sighing before saying he hadn’t done his best and missed so points he should have gotten, so frustrating!
If he did poorly, however, he’d be all smiles.
“Alright, I’ll cut to the chase,” Cheng Zhu uncrossed his legs and leaned forward.
He looked at his parents and began, “I have a lot of money now.”
…
…
Fifteen minutes later, Cheng Zhu felt incredibly wronged.
You asked to spit it out, so I made it short.
Then you were dissatisfied and bombarded with questions.
Fine then! I might as well leisurely impress you!
—You forced my hand!
I wanted to interact with you as a regular son, but what I got was your distrust.
Alright, I’m laying my cards on the table, I’m a family tycoon!
Cheng Zhu began rambling on about his sumr, making things up as he went.
At so point, he had to discuss his affairs with his family.
Cheng Zhu wasn’t the type to possibly be worth hundreds of millions and still keep his parents in the dark.
Of course, so less important details could naturally be edited out.
For example, he didn’t ntion betting on the World Cup.
Also, he didn’t talk about selling QQ lingerie.
Using his own phrasing, he saw so news over the sumr, like so post-90s kid, not even a college graduate, made loads of money through e-comrce.
These kinds of news were everywhere these past few years, with no idea if there were behind-the-scenes hands pushing young people into the e-comrce industry.
Then, well, he had a scholastic red envelope, so he started selling… trendy won’s clothing.
“But, this trend stuff, you know, it’s just a passing fad, doesn’t last long.”
“So, just after a month, business was bad, and I closed the shop.”
With a few words, he blocked off any further questioning, saving the hassle of queries about details.
Besides, Cheng and Xu Yun had suspected Cheng Zhu of dating before, always hugging his phone, clueless about what he was doing.
This way, it seed like a reasonable explanation.
Additionally, Cheng Zhu now spoke rapidly, continuously releasing new pieces of information to prevent his parents from interjecting.
“But, I did make money in that month,” he finally paused for his first tactical break.
Xu Yun promptly leaned in, asking, “How much did you make?”
“150,000,” Cheng Zhu purposely minimized the amount.
Even so, it completely astonished Cheng and Xu Yun.
“What kind of business did you run with just over ten thousand in capital to make 150,000 in one month! That’s over a million a year!” Mom’s voice trembled slightly.
Cheng didn’t say anything right then, but inexplicably felt like having a cigarette.
“Mom, it doesn’t work like that. Didn’t I say this trend is only popular temporarily? After the craze, it’s wholly unprofitable. That week I even lost over 1,000, so I simply closed the shop,” Cheng Zhu continued his deceit.
“Why didn’t you discuss any of this with us?” Cheng suddenly asked, feeling sothing was off.
“Initially, I feared you wouldn’t let do it. After making so money, I intended to tell you, but just then, didn’t Uncle co to borrow money from us?” Cheng Zhu lied again.
Cheng and Xu Yun exchanged glances, still frowning.
“Also, the money in the shop can’t be withdrawn imdiately; you have to wait for the custors to receive their rchandise, and once the return period passes… It’s just complicated.”
“Then when school started, I saw a shop outside campus with potential… so I partnered up with so classmates to open a claw machine shop—the one I just took Little Youzi to,” Cheng Zhu again lied.
“How much did you put in?” Cheng asked.
“100,000,” Cheng Zhu answered.
Cheng and Xu Yun fell into brief silence.
Cheng Zhu had always been a very assertive person, sotis even a bit wild.
They had long known that this son would be beyond their control in the future.
Previously, while both were busy with their community fresh supermarket, Cheng Zhu had shared his opinions.
Eventually, when the supermarket opened, everything he’d said proved right!
Though they never ntioned this to Cheng Zhu, behind his back they discussed it several tis, Xu Yun even thought her son had great ideas and would achieve great things.
But they hadn’t expected that just after starting his freshman year, he would stir up so much trouble!
A high school graduate making 150,000 over the sumr!
Cheng Zhu sat there, rolling an orange on the table, which would make it easier to peel later, and said:
“Mom, I’m planning on transferring 50,000 to you later.”
Xu Yun didn’t respond but instead stood and pulled Cheng into the bedroom.
What they specifically discussed, Cheng Zhu didn’t eavesdrop.
But from the faint noises, there seed to be a small dispute in the room.
It was typical for a regular family—instead of seeing this as a windfall, their first reaction could even be—fear!
Afraid that their son had done sothing illegal.
15,000 in 2014 was a substantial amount for such a family.
Everyone knew the fastest ways to make money were often written in the “Criminal Law.”
Though they had seen many news stories about e-comrce, having it happen so close to ho still felt incredibly surreal.
Luckily, they had so trust in their son, who had always been labeled “bad-faced” and never quite fit in with his peers but hadn’t done anything wrong at school, nor was he a school bully.
Cheng Zhu sat leisurely waiting, even peeled and passed half an orange to his sister.
He personally felt it was good for his parents to discuss things among themselves; it was a positive approach.
After a good while, they erged with a consensus.
Cheng looked rather gloomy, probably having been scolded.
After sitting down, they bombarded Cheng Zhu with more questions.
Such as what exactly was the trendy won’s clothing he sold.
Like having just over ten thousand in capital, how much rchandise that could get him, and how he could make so much money.
Like whether he exploited any platform loopholes.
Cheng Zhu answered smoothly; just this composure and poise could reassure his parents.
He seed to have indeed matured a bit.
In many families, it’s strange. The mont you make money, your parents suddenly think you’ve matured.
Continuing the conversation, the topic returned to “Youu Co to Play.”
His parents had criticized him for keeping things from them.
But actually, when they argued in the room, Xu Yun had rebutted Cheng, “When you opened Yunlai Restaurant, didn’t you keep it from Dad? Like father, like son!”
Ultimately, Cheng Zhu had made money, so it was a good thing, and all else was easier to handle.
People are sowhat consequentialist.
“Keep the 50,000 yourself; Mom won’t save it for you.”
“From now on, talk to us imdiately about anything, got it?”
Cheng Zhu nodded repeatedly, showing a proper attitude.
Xu Yun initially wanted to say, if the claw machine shop doesn’t do well and money becos tight, rember to tell us.
But she thought of the shop hadn’t opened yet, and decided such inauspicious words were best left unsaid.
So, the family sat in the living room for a long ti, chatting until late into the night before heading to their respective rooms.
The community fresh supermarket would be busy early in the morning, so Cheng and Xu Yun usually slept very early.
But tonight, for both of them, it might be a sleepless one.
Cheng Zhu was aware that this issue was only temporarily resolved; his parents needed ti to digest and adapt.
The next day, Xu Yun specifically took so ti out to say she wanted to visit his shop.
Of course, Cheng Zhu would oblige.
On the way to “Youu Co to Play,” he boasted confidently about his confidence in the shop, reassuring her and Dad to not worry, and that he was definitely going to make money. He maintained that opening this store had been a thorough and reliable decision.
Listening to him, Xu Yun smiled and echoed good fortunes all the way.
When they arrived at “Youu Co to Play,” as a mother, she didn’t do much since she was genuinely clueless about the industry, not knowing what a so-called “internet celebrity shop” even was.
—She just silently cleaned the place, for a long, long ti.
