Xu Ke looked at Duan Jia's face, recalling the past deeds of Duan Chongfeng, and waved his hand. "It's nothing," he said. "What did you co here for?"
Duan Jia didn't find it strange and imdiately began his report.
After listening, Xu Ke stroked his chin. The main reason Duan Jia had co was to inform Xu Ke that Duan Chongfeng was on the verge of a breakthrough and was preparing to enter seclusion. Duan Chongfeng had been greatly stimulated by Xu Ke reaching the Innate Initial Stage, and with the added push from the dicine Xu Ke had provided, he was ready to advance.
As for why he had sent Duan Jia instead of calling, it was mainly because he wanted Duan Jia to get more dicinal herbs to increase the chances of a successful breakthrough. The relationship between Xu Ke and Duan Chongfeng was well beyond the need for such formalities.
Xu Ke turned, grabbed several packets of dicinal herbs, and handed over a prescription, telling Duan Jia that Duan Chongfeng could co get more in the future if needed.
After expressing his thanks, Duan Jia left imdiately.
Watching his departing figure, Xu Ke shook his head. "What a straightforward guy."
…
Perhaps stricken by conscience, Xu Ke manned the clinic for the entire day. He told Xu Yi to go back to school and study hard, assuring her he could take care of things now.
Xu Yi was overjoyed, excitedly calling her brother generous before bounding off and shouting, "I'm free! I'm free!"
She had been there for so many days that she'd almost forgotten she wasn't a dical student. Having already finished her graduation thesis while loafing around at the clinic, she felt she could finally enjoy the last monts of her senior year now that Xu Ke was back.
However, Xu Yi had no idea that after she left, Xu Ke stroked his chin and mused to himself. It's only one day off. What's there to be so happy about? You still have to co back tomorrow.
「The next morning.」
Following Xu Ke's orders, Wang Qiya struggled to hold back her laughter as she woke Xu Yi and told her to check her phone.
A mont later, the wonderful breakfast was interrupted by heart-wrenching screams…
"You're going to Haojing? Why didn't you tell sooner?!"
"You bastard!!!"
…
anwhile, Xu Ke had just boarded the plane, completely oblivious to Xu Yi's furious curses.
"Wow, this private jet is really comfortable," Xu Ke said with an appreciative click of his tongue, sinking into the plush lounge chair.
Heedless of Xu Ke's admiration, Wong Qifu was still on the phone. Behind them were Wang Wu, Lin Qinghua, Tang Yingchang, and Han Wang. The presence of the first three was expected, but Han Wang's invitation had surprised everyone, including Han Wang himself.
He had been the one to put the most effort into assassinating Xu Ke; he never imagined he would now be coming along to protect him.
Xu Ke had thoughtfully explained that he wasn't very familiar with Ye Lang, and since Uncle Wu and Elder Tang were too distinguished for such tasks, it was more appropriate for Han Wang to run the errands.
Han Wang almost lashed out on the spot. This is outrageous!
"Brother Wang, fetch a blanket," Xu Ke began to order Han Wang around from his recliner like a boss. "Don't let the stewardess get it. I'm worried Qi Fu will get jealous."
The mont he said it, Lin Qinghua, Wang Wu, and Tang Yingchang couldn't help but burst out laughing.
Han Wang's face flushed with anger. Was he really being treated like a lackey?! He finally understood. Even though Xu Ke knew he was the Young Master of Tao Ranju, his detestable attitude hadn't changed one bit.
Just then, Wong Qifu, who was on the phone nearby, was finally "forced" to pay attention. She shot Xu Ke an irritated glare before turning to Han Wang. "Elder Wang, please, keep your seat. I'll have soone get it."
Han Wang's real surna was Wang, so calling him Elder Wang was perfectly fitting.
Han Wang felt an unexpected sense of honor and dared not show his anger any longer. "Thank you, Director Wang," he said gratefully.
Previously, he hadn't paid much mind to the heads of the Six Great Families. In his eyes, only truly powerful individuals like Xu Zhentai or Hu Deyao deserved his respect. Therefore, despite Wong Qifu's imnse wealth, she hadn't amounted to much in his view.
However, the power Wong Qifu had displayed during her battle with Ye Yunfeng had thoroughly won him over. Now, he regarded her with both respect and awe, so being treated with such courtesy left him feeling unexpectedly honored.
"Thank you, Director Wang," Xu Ke chid in with a cheeky grin, having received the blanket.
But before he could get any closer, Wong Qifu, who had just stood up, pushed him back down into his seat. She shot him a glance, her expression a mixture of helplessness and amusent. "You and your big mouth."
She knew perfectly well what he was doing. His antics were ant to help integrate the people from Tao Ranju with the Wang Family. It's just that his thods were so infuriating.
…
「Haojing.」
When he arrived, Xu Ke was still a bit dazed. "We're here already?"
In just over two hours and forty minutes, Xu Ke had arrived in Haojing. As he stepped out of the cabin and onto the escalator, the sudden chill in the air made him shiver.
At the end of March, wearing short sleeves in Tianhai was no problem at all. But in Haojing, especially in an open area like this where the wind could blow freely, the temperature was significantly lower. It would be perfectly normal to start sneezing imdiately if one didn't use True Qi to ward off the cold.
"I told you to wear more, but you complained it was too hot." Wong Qifu draped a windbreaker she had prepared over Xu Ke's shoulders.
Xu Ke muttered, "Wasn't I just creating an opportunity for you to show you care about ? This is how sweet love begins!"
Wong Qifu rolled her eyes in exasperation and gave him a light slap. Seeing their increasingly comfortable, sweet, and harmonious relationship, Lin Qinghua couldn't help but smile like a proud aunt from behind them.
Only Han Wang was a bit miserable. He hadn't packed enough warm clothes, and it was freezing without using True Qi to stay warm.
"Brother Tang, could I borrow a coat?" Han Wang asked Tang Yingchang, not wanting to waste his True Qi.
Tang Yingchang, who was just putting on a black jacket, looked surprised. "You can feel cold?"
Han Wang was flabbergasted by the question. "Why shouldn't I?" he retorted.
"But isn't your na Han Wang?" Tang Yingchang asked, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
Han Wang practically jumped. "My na is Han Wang, not Cold-Resistant Wang, dammit!"
Tang Yingchang was speechless.
…
The group boarded a pre-arranged shuttle to the hotel. Looking out the window at the ancient capital's architecture, Xu Ke felt the city's profound cultural heritage imbued every street with a special charm. The sky was clear and sunny, and the light streaming through the open window felt pleasantly warm.
"After we drop off our luggage, where to next?" Xu Ke asked, turning to Wong Qifu beside him.
"We'll go find Mister Mu. He happens to be in town," Wong Qifu said with a smile.
Xu Ke nodded. "Alright!"
However, the mont they arrived at the hotel and he received the key card for his and Wong Qifu's shared room, his mood instantly turned fiery. All thoughts of eting Mister Mu were imdiately thrown to the wind…
