Ye Feng didn't know much about Ye Taiqing; he only knew that Ye Taiqing's original na was Ye Deqing.
After losing a power struggle against Ye Yunfeng's father, the forr Family Head Ye Deming, he was stripped of the generational "De" character in his na and subsequently renad himself Ye Taiqing.
Ye Taiqing should have severed all ties with the Ye Family. He was also extrely displeased with Ye Deming's son, Ye Yunfeng. The only reason he had returned now was not out of nostalgia, but because he wanted to retrieve his parents' ashes and ancestral tablets.
The ashes and tablets should have remained in the Ye Family's ancestral hall. However, Ye Yunfeng, wanting to use Ye Taiqing to kill Xu Ke, didn't hesitate to break the ancestral hall's rules and had Ye Feng hide them.
"Who would have thought? Ye Taiqing seems to be quite a filial son," Xu Ke chuckled.
"Perhaps," Ye Feng laughed wryly, then added, "According to the rules recorded in the Ye Family's ancestral hall, descendants must not disturb the peace of their ancestors. Violators will harm their karmic virtue, shorten their lifespan, and et a terrible end."
"When I brought up this rule, he told I was an adopted son, so I could take out the ashes and ancestral tablets without worry. The Ye Family's rules didn't apply to . How ridiculous... No wonder I'm fated to die a terrible death. It turns out his blood really does run in my veins."
At this point, Ye Feng felt a surge of bitterness. Ye Yunfeng had never cared for him in the slightest.
Just then, Xu Ke nudged him, his words muffled as he chewed on a skewer of grilled leeks. "Stop being so damn sad. Hurry up and eat before the skewers get cold. This is my money, you know. Now, keep your mouth moving—and I an talking, not just eating. Go on."
Beside them, Tang Yingchang almost burst out laughing.
Ye Feng's train of thought was shattered by Xu Ke's words. For a mont, he didn't know whether to be angry or to thank Xu Ke for pulling him back from sinking into sorrow.
After a mont's thought, Ye Feng simply continued, "Of course, when I was hiding the ashes and ancestral tablets, I had no idea he was telling to do it to coerce Ye Taiqing into killing you. I thought he just wanted to forcibly keep Ye Taiqing around."
"Understood," Xu Ke nodded. "Don't worry, I never suspected you of betraying . Just rember to tell if anything cos up in the future. You're forgiven this ti."
Xu Ke knew deep down that Ye Feng's extra explanation was to make one thing clear—he truly had no knowledge of Ye Yunfeng's plan.
Ye Feng nodded. "Thank you." As long as Xu Ke understood, that was enough.
However, Ye Feng's mind quickly caught up. Wait a minute. How could it be a betrayal when we were on opposite sides to begin with? What forgiveness do I need from him?
By the ti Ye Feng had this realization, Xu Ke had already changed the subject. He wiped his mouth and said lightly, "So, does Ye Yunfeng know where the ashes and ancestral tablets are?"
Ye Feng was about to state with certainty that he didn't know, but then he thought about how secretive Ye Yunfeng was and chose his words carefully. "At least, I never told him directly."
Thinking of this, a smirk touched Xu Ke's lips. "Where did you put them? Tell , and I'll send soone to get them."
"Okay." Ye Feng nodded. "I placed them in Tianhai Cetery, in storage locker No. 3 in Zone A5. I also left so Ingot Candles inside."
"Fine."
Xu Ke imdiately sent soone to retrieve them. To be on the safe side, he had the Ghost Elder make the trip. The Ghost Elder was an assassin who could even withstand attacks from Han Wang; even if Ye Yunfeng had set a trap, he would surely make it back.
To Xu Ke's surprise, however, the Ghost Elder retrieved the items smoothly and without incident.
"It seems Ye Yunfeng really doesn't care about these things." Holding the ancestral tablet and the small urn, Xu Ke found a place to set them up for display. The corners of his mouth slowly curled upward. "But Ye Taiqing cares..."
Standing beside him, Ye Feng watched Xu Ke's smile and, for so reason, felt a sudden twinge of sympathy for Ye Taiqing, even though he also considered the man an enemy...
...
「The next morning.」
Xu Ke left Junyue Residence and went to Wong Qifu's ho.
However, after entering, he didn't hurry inside. Instead, he stood in the entryway, carefully observing his surroundings.
There wasn't a soul in the living room; Wong Qifu had already opened the door for him in advance. Clearly, the others had already finished their al and left.
"Co in, they've already gone. Stop sneaking around like that. Didn't you get my ssage?"
Watching Xu Ke peeking around after coming through the door, an exasperated Wong Qifu spoke from her seat at the dining table. When she woke up, she'd received a ssage from Xu Ke asking if Xu Yi and Wang Qiya had left, even asking her to give him the all-clear. The Helmsman of the Wang Family Corporation, helping Xu Ke with sothing like this? As if!
Xu Ke heard her and glanced at his phone. Wong Qifu, who had been scolding him in her ssages just half an hour ago, had indeed sent one saying they were gone. He instantly smiled. "My wife is the best, after all."
"This is the last ti," Wong Qifu glared at him.
"Got it!" Xu Ke walked up to Wong Qifu with a mischievous grin. "But I thought you weren't going to help . Oh, I get it! You were afraid I wouldn't dare co in if I thought those two were here, right? And then you would've missed all day? Is that why you decided to give a heads-up?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Wong Qifu stared at him. A dangerous glint rose in her beautiful eyes, and then her red lips, still damp from her porridge, curved into a small smile as she asked, "What did you say?"
Having teased her, Xu Ke imdiately backpedaled. "Sorry, my bad."
Wong Qifu didn't seem annoyed by his teasing. Instead, a faint smile appeared on her stunning face. "Co sit down."
"What are you going to do? It was just a joke." Xu Ke looked wary and didn't move an inch.
Seeing him stay put, Wong Qifu locked her alluring eyes on him, her gaze rippling seductively. "I'm not going to do anything. I'm just asking you to co over. Don't you want to?"
"That trick won't work on ," Xu Ke declared, but as he t Wong Qifu's flirtatious, longing gaze, his feet moved of their own accord. He plopped down in the chair beside her.
The mont he sat down, she pinched him twice on the backside.
It was the price he had to pay for his smart mouth.
"That'll teach you to tease ."
After the pinches, Wong Qifu finally felt vindicated. However, seeing Xu Ke wincing dramatically, she couldn't help but laugh. "Why do you always have to be so dramatic?"
As she laughed, her eyes remained fixed on Xu Ke, pure happiness radiating from them.
"I'm not faking it, it really hurts!" Xu Ke groaned. "Ouch! Ow! Ouch! I'm dying! It's a fatal wound..."
Wong Qifu was a mix of annoyed and amused. Unable to listen to him any longer, she reached out her delicate hand to rub his waist. "Alright, alright, I'll rub it for you. Stop with the theatrics; it hurts my eyes just watching you."
Xu Ke imdiately perked up, grabbing Wong Qifu's hand and guiding it under his shirt. "Then slip your hand inside and rub..."
