The lights were bright, illuminating the sa living room as last ti. Wong Qifu, Wang Qiya, and Zhou Yi Yi were sitting on the sofa. Mai Qing and Lin Qinghua were standing to one side. Behind them stood an impassive, middle-aged man in a tracksuit.
This middle-aged man was Wong Liqing. He was Wang Jiangnian's cousin, forty-five years old, and an expert at the peak of the Innate Great Perfection realm. He was also one of the captains of the team that had intercepted Ye Dexian tonight.
Wong Qifu's face was expressionless as she looked down at so docunts, revealing nothing. Wang Qiya, on the other hand, looked guilt-ridden and remained silent. As for Zhou Yi Yi, she wore a look of indignation, clearly still fuming about Wang Qiya talking back to her in the car.
KNOCK KNOCK. The sound broke the calm in the living room.
"Open the door," Wong Qifu said.
Mai Qing nodded slightly and went to open it.
Xu Ke and Wang Wu walked in. "Hello, Auntie Mai," Xu Ke said with a slight nod. On the way over, Wang Wu had already told him that Mai Qing and Wong Liqing would be there.
"Hello, Mister Xu," Mai Qing replied with a gentle smile as the two n walked further into the room.
As Xu Ke entered, all eyes in the room focused on him, except for Wong Qifu, who kept her gaze on the docunts in her hands. No one spoke. The atmosphere grew tense.
Finally, Wong Qifu put down her docunts. She looked at Xu Ke and said, "Please, have a seat."
"Okay." Xu Ke nodded slightly and sat on the sofa directly across from Zhou Yi Yi. He t her gaze, which was filled with hostility and anger.
He frowned. What's her problem?
"Tell exactly what happened tonight," Wong Qifu finally asked.
Wang Qiya took a deep breath. "It went like this—"
"I wasn't asking you. You've already told ," Wong Qifu said flatly.
Wang Qiya instantly fell silent.
Xu Ke smiled. "I saw Ye Chong at the bar and realized Qi Ya might be in trouble. I went upstairs to intervene and called Uncle Wu to get her out of there."
His summary was succinct, yet the expressions of everyone present varied. He had omitted far too many details.
"How did you handle things afterward?" Wong Qifu looked at Xu Ke. Clearly, she knew he had agreed to treat Ye Chong's injuries.
"I healed Ye Chong's Dantian and reached a truce with Ye Dexian," Xu Ke said nonchalantly.
"Good." Wong Qifu nodded.
But at that mont, Wong Liqing, who had been standing quietly to the side, suddenly spoke up. His tone was indifferent. "Mister Xu, wasn't that a bit inappropriate?"
As soon as he spoke, Wang Qiya's expression changed. Uncle Wong is targeting my brother-in-law?!
"Why?" Xu Ke looked toward Wong Liqing.
"Tonight, our team of thirty-five intercepted Ye Dexian. We had no fatalities, but eight n were injured. And now you're telling you healed Ye Chong's Dantian and made peace with Ye Dexian? Did you give any thought to the sacrifices our brothers made?" Wong Liqing stared at Xu Ke, his words growing increasingly sharp.
Wang Qiya's face turned white. So people really did get hurt! But she never imagined Wong Liqing would choose this mont to criticize Xu Ke.
Zhou Yi Yi's eyes brightened. Could it be? Has Wong Liqing seen through Xu Ke's tricks?
Xu Ke said, "If we hadn't reached a truce tonight, Uncle Wong Liqing, how do you think it should have been handled?"
"Hold on." Wong Liqing waved a dismissive hand and sneered. "Let's set aside tonight's events for a mont. Please, address as Mister Wong. I have not yet acknowledged you as my nephew-in-law."
When he finished speaking, the atmosphere in the living room instantly froze. Wang Qiya, Wang Wu, and Lin Qinghua stared at Wong Liqing with wide eyes. Zhou Yi Yi looked surprised, while Mai Qing remained noncommittal. Wong Qifu's expression beca even more unreadable.
Xu Ke wasn't embarrassed. He simply looked at Wong Liqing and said, "Fine. In that case, Mister Wong, how do you think I should have handled it?"
A dangerous glint appeared in Wong Liqing's eyes. "It was unfixable."
Xu Ke laughed abruptly, a cold light flashing in his eyes. "So, you're saying, Mister Wong, that you're just trying to stir up trouble?"
"Stirring up trouble?" Wong Liqing sneered. "I'm telling you that your every decision from the start was wrong. From your reckless rescue attempt, to shattering his Dantian in a fit of rage, and then healing it in such an idiotic manner… all of it demonstrates your supre foolishness."
At his words, everyone's pupils contracted. Wong Liqing was truly picking a fight.
Anger imdiately flashed across Wang Qiya's face. What does my cousin an by that?!
Wong Qifu's eyes flickered and she was about to speak, but Xu Ke beat her to it. "Oh? Then please, Mister Wong, enlighten . How should it have been done?"
A scornful arc ford on Wong Liqing's lips. He said slowly, "From the very beginning, you should have stayed put and waited for our support. That would have prevented the Ye Family from having the chance to notify Ye Dexian. We then could have surrounded them, captured Ye Chong, and subdued the enemy without a fight. With him as evidence, we could have rightfully reported the Ye Family to the Martial Alliance.
"In that scenario, our Wang Family would have profited the most and might even have resolved our current crisis! Do you understand?! You don't understand at all. People like you, who crawl up from the bottom, think a little cultivation gives you the right to do whatever you want. Your actions are the sole reason we ca away with nothing tonight!
"Xu Ke, don't be so arrogant. The rules of the Six Great Families are not a ga you're qualified to play!"
When he finished, the room fell into a dead silence. No one had expected Wong Liqing's words to be such a direct attack on Xu Ke. It was just short of blatant contempt.
An ugly expression twisted Wang Qiya's features. Wong Qifu's face grew even darker. She had assud Wong Liqing was there to report on the night's battle, not to imdiately pick a fight with Xu Ke.
But just then, Xu Ke laughed. It was a cold laugh.
He rose to his feet and stood directly in front of Wong Liqing. Standing a good half-head taller, Xu Ke's presence was instantly oppressive. Seeing this, everyone's expression changed.
In the next mont, a small smirk touched Xu Ke's lips. He spoke slowly. "Wong Liqing, let ask you a question."
Wong Liqing raised an eyebrow. "What?" He thinks he's going to argue or make excuses?
But Xu Ke just said indifferently, "Are you fucking retarded?"
The mont the words left his mouth, Wong Liqing's face turned livid.
