All of a sudden, her phone rang on the sofa, and the sound resonated in the living room.
Xia Ning turned her head to fetch the phone and behind her, Qiao Yu stiffened, then slowly stood back up.
Xia Ning’s face darkened when she saw the number on the screen. She rejected the call right away.
Noticing her reaction, Qiao Yu asked, “What’s wrong?”
Xia Ning turned around and shook her head. “Nothing, just a prank call. It’s late. Let’s go to bed.” She didn’t wait for Qiao Yu’s reply and headed straight for the stairs.
Holding the box in his hand, Qiao Yu watched as she walked up the stairs. His eyes dimd a little.
Just then, his phone rang.
Seeing the number on the screen, Qiao Yu picked it up and said in an indifferent voice. “You’re drunk, so behave like one.”
“I’m concerned about you. That’s all.” Mu Zichen’s voice ca from the other end.
Qiao Yu frowned. “So what’s your point?”
“Did it work? If not, you can start writing your na backward from now on.” Mu Zichen was straightforward. “Proposing on the first day of the new year represents leaving everything old behind and you’ll have a brand new future. That fits the two of you perfectly!”
“Shut up!” Qiao Yu said coldly. “I think you’re really drunk!” He hung up after that.
“Hey, Alex, Alex...” Mu Zichen shouted into the phone. When he checked the phone, he saw that it had been hung up.
Wen Yue opened the door to find Mu Zichen playing with the phone and her face darkened. She said with a half-smile. “I see you’re not drunk!” Swirling the glass of warm water in her hand, she walked toward Mu Zichen.
“Wen Yue, let’s talk like civilized people. The alcohol is already wearing off.” Mu Zichen said with an ingratiating smile. “You know I can hold my liquor well...”
“That’s right. You can do that. So why were you drunk after drinking that little amount tonight?” Wen Yue raised an eyebrow, went up to the bed, and smiled at Mu Zichen.
The smile on Wen Yue’s face gave Mu Zichen the creeps. He went on. “No, I an, I was a little drunk, but with your care, I recovered in no ti!”
“That’s right. I think you can be more awake than this!” With those words, Wen Yue splashed the water on Mu Zichen’s face.
“You crazy woman! What are you doing?!” Soaked, Mu Zichen glared at Wen Yue and was furious.
Wen Yue put the glass down on the bedside table with a thump, then sneered at Mu Zichen. “Mu Zichen, lie to again and it won’t be just a glass of warm water.”
Mu Zichen swallowed and didn’t dare to say anything else. He knew that Wen Yue was capable of anything.
In the Qiao family house, Qiao Yu walked into the main bedroom on the second floor to find Xia Ning tidying up the room. He glanced at her, then took his pajamas and went into the bathroom.
Hearing the door to the bathroom shut, Xia Ning raised her head with a conflicted look on her face.
Just then, her phone rang again. Xia Ning’s face darkened when she saw the na on the screen. She hit the reject button again and when she was about to turn their phone off, she received a text ssage.
“I’m sure you don’t want to call you on the Qiao family landline.”
