Qiao Mo’s eyes were slightly red, yet her lips still held a faint self-mocking smile, her mind filled with his words from earlier.

As she walked out of the guest room, Qiao Mo slid down the wall bit by bit, crouching in the corner, her heart feeling like it had been gouged out, leaving a bloody hole.

He would repay... he would repay...

How would he repay?

Ha, he actually doesn’t owe her anything, does he?

Lowering her eyes gently, Qiao Mo felt like she was suffocating, never having felt such piercing pain before, as if soone was branding her heart with a knife, using ice swords, and burning irons. All she could do was listen to their sizzling sounds, and that pain spread throughout her entire body.

...

Over half an hour later, Fu Nancheng ca out of the reception room.

He imdiately noticed the red character for "happiness" drifting to the ground, his brows furrowing instinctively, his gaze filled with a hint of tension.

He hurried towards the living room, opening the doors to the guest room and bedroom to look around but did not see any trace of her.

Feeling uneasy, he was about to go downstairs when he spotted Nanny Wang: "Where is Qiao Mo?"

Nanny Wang was stunned for a mont: "I haven’t seen Miss Qiao co down..."

"I’m here."

Before he could speak again, Qiao Mo ca out of the dining room with a tray, which held a fried egg, two pieces of toast, ham, and so tomatoes and vegetables.

He was taken aback for a mont, eting her eyes, a hint of inquiry in his gaze.

Qiao Mo smiled lightly at him: "Why are you looking at like that? Where did you go just now?"

He pressed his thin lips together, still silent, trying to discern any trace of clues from her face.

Qiao Mo’s heart grew increasingly bitter; she walked past him, avoiding his gaze, and sat directly on the sofa: "Are you eating or not? Your portion is on the dining table."

Upon hearing this, he stared at her for a while longer before turning to head to the dining room.

As his silhouette disappeared, the smile on Qiao Mo’s face faded slightly, the toast in her mouth lost its original taste, leaving only a sense of bitterness.

Not long after, he ca out and sat across from her, bringing two glasses of milk with him.

They remained silent, until a few minutes later, he finally couldn’t help but speak: "Was it Nanny Wang who put up the character for ’happiness’?"

Qiao Mo looked at him openly: "I put up the ones upstairs."

He silently looked at her; he actually knew that she was the one who did it. Her style of putting them up was different from Nanny Wang’s.

But what he really wanted to ask was... had she heard anything?

So unexplainable unease bubbled up in Fu Nancheng’s heart, but facing her clear eyes, he faintly felt he might be overthinking things.

"What’s wrong?" Qiao Mo feigned ignorance.

"Nothing, just noticed so were put up crookedly."

"They’re okay," Qiao Mo turned her head to look and felt they weren’t too bad.

The conversation ceased; after finishing their al, he stood beside the sofa, wrapping her in a white coat. The coat’s sleeves were so long that Qiao Mo’s hands were completely hidden inside.

A ring of white rabbit fur was on the coat’s hood, encircling her small face, an indescribable charm and cuteness making him unable to resist pecking her lips.

Before he could reach her cherry lips, Qiao Mo instinctively dodged slightly, a flicker of panic passing through her eyes.

He raised his head just slightly, eting her indifferent and distant eyes, laced with unfamiliarity and vigilance, more intense than before, which inexplicably made him feel stifled.

Noticing her slight loss of composure, Qiao Mo quickly lowered her gaze and turned away, pretending as if nothing had happened, speaking in her usual manner: "Let’s go, it’s almost ten."

He pressed his lips together in silence, taking a deep look at her, then with a slightly cold expression, walked past her.

Watching his back, Qiao Mo followed softly, maintaining a distance neither too close nor too far, and did not take the initiative to speak again.
