"Mom, it’s not like that. I swear that I didn’t plan for this to happen. I didn’t know who he was at the ti," I said as I tried to stop my voice from breaking.

"What are you talking about?" my mother asked, her brows furrowed.

"The truth is, I actually t Raphael before you married his father," I confessed in a soft whisper.

"You t him before? When was this? You two knew each other?" my mother fired question after question at without pause.

In my mind, I could still recall the first ti I t Raphael and also the first night that we spent together. I quickly tried to block those mories from my mind before refocusing my attention on my mother. It was clear now that I had her attention and that she wanted answers.

"It was that day when I found out that my ex was cheating on , and I just lost it. I was so heartbroken, and there I was at a party, and then I t Raphael, and then..." I said before waving my hand and making a you-know face.

The shock on my mother’s face was more than enough of a telltale sign for to understand that she knew it was that night that Raphael and I slept together.

"It was just supposed to be a one-night stand, and I wasn’t supposed to see him again, but then I found out that you were going to marry Bennett," I continued in a small voice.

"Why didn’t you tell anything? You just left in the dark," my mother complained bitterly.

I couldn’t bring myself to say anything. "I’m so sorry that I didn’t tell you. I just didn’t know how," I confessed honestly.

"You need to break things off with him. You know that, don’t you? He is your stepbrother and should be nothing more. Also, don’t ever forget that he is engaged. He’s going to marry another woman very soon," my mother reminded again with a stern look on her face.

"It’s not like I want to be the other woman, but I can’t bring myself to break things off with him. Even after learning that you would be marrying his father, even though he’s engaged to soone else, I still can’t bring myself to stop loving him," I said as more bitter tears rolled down my face.

"Love? How can you call this love? Why does it have to be Raphael, of all people? You’re going to ruin everything if you haven’t done so already. Do you even know what you’re saying? Have you conveniently forgotten that he’s engaged? He belongs to soone else, Abigail. And you’re my daughter-you’re supposed to know better than to get involved with him for whatever reason," my mother lectured harshly.

"I’m so sorry, but I couldn’t help it. I tried my best to stay away, but in the end, he just ans everything to . He’s not just so fling, Mom. Raphael proposed to recently. He wants to marry and not Rosabella," I told her in a shaky voice.

For a split second, I thought that I saw doubt flicker in her eyes before the anger suddenly ca surging back, this ti even fiercer than before.

"Proposed? And you honestly believe that? Abigail, you’re being used. Even I can see that as clear as day. He’s toying with you, and there’s no way that he’s going to marry you because he is going to marry Rosabella, just as Bennett wants," my mother spat at before laughing.

I couldn’t bring myself to say anything in defense because there was still a part of that thought the sa thing. I had always asked myself the sa question: why hadn’t Raphael broken things off with Rosabella yet? But it was already too late, and I couldn’t stop myself from fighting for him and for us.

"But he loves , Mother. I know that he does. I can feel it every ti that he looks at and every mont that we spend together. I really want to be with him," I whispered desperately.
