Food Imrsion allowed one to temporarily store the nutrients of food within their cells, granting a massive, short-term boost in energy.
Damage Knocking worked on a similar principle, sealing away the force of an attack. But the key difference was that Damage Knocking could store that energy for a much longer period. By drawing inspiration from Food Imrsion, Yuuki had found a new path—an idea that perhaps even Master Jiro had never considered.
He had also discovered a problem, which sparked a completely new idea.
Food Imrsion was temporary. While it could extend your energy reserves, the effect would vanish if too much ti passed.
That’s why any true powerhouse would only use it right before a major battle. They knew better than to do it too far in advance.
Damage Knocking, conversely, sealed away seventy percent of an attack’s force long-term, while redirecting the other thirty percent outward. This long-term storage was the exact opposite of Food Imrsion.
Of course, this was due to the different types of energy being absorbed. The energy from Food Imrsion ca from food you ate yourself, a gentle and non-violent power that was slowly absorbed.
The force from Damage Knocking, however, was the violent energy of an enemy’s attack, flooding the body all at once. It was incredibly difficult for cells to adapt to such a sudden burst.
Yet, Damage Knocking managed to seal it away. The two skills had sothing in common, and perhaps because Yuuki had approached learning Damage Knocking by drawing from his experience with Food Imrsion, he started to see things differently.
He began to find a point of convergence between the two skills.
Yuuki started experinting, trying to rge them. He wanted to find a way to make the energy from Food Imrsion permanent, and to make the damage from Damage Knocking dissipate harmlessly over ti.
And as he tested it, he actually found a breakthrough. This was likely due to the special nature of his Gourt Cells.
Other people’s Gourt Cells grew by continuously unlocking the power of their Appetite Demon, converting their normal cells.
But Yuuki’s Growth-type ability had caused a qualitative change in his cells. They were stronger and held more potential than anyone else’s.
The fusion he was attempting was sothing others wouldn’t dare to even try. If their Gourt Cells couldn’t handle the strain and collapsed, they would be finished. But Yuuki was different. His Gourt Cells were far more resilient.
It was because of this that he found the connection. He succeeded in using the principles of Food Imrsion to gradually dissipate the damage he took. While it took so ti, it was no longer sealed permanently within his body.
As for Food Imrsion, he found a solution for that as well: creating a "switch" just like the one for Damage Knocking.
Damage Knocking had a fatal flaw, a release point located in the mouth. In the original story, Jiro died because this point was triggered, causing the imnse power sealed within him to erupt instantly.
Of course, Yuuki’s goal wasn’t just a simple fusion. While he could now use the techniques of Food Imrsion to slowly vent the energy from Damage Knocking, it still took too long.
Until all the damage was released, the fatal flaw of Damage Knocking would remain.
So, what Yuuki needed to do was enhance this ability—to allow that force to be vented in an extrely short amount of ti, or even use the principles of Food Imrsion to directly convert the damage into his own power, just as if he had eaten an ingredient.
This idea had a high probability of success. After all, the attacks everyone used were constructed from calories—pure energy, the sa kind provided by food.
The ability to swallow and return energy did exist in the natural world, though it was very rare and had its limits.
What Yuuki wanted was to use Damage Knocking and Food Imrsion to directly convert an opponent’s attack into his own strength.
And the conversion process had to be fast. In a real, high-stakes battle, no one would wait around for you to slowly convert their attack.
This new skill of his was still just a frawork. He had spent a period of ti learning basic Damage Knocking, using his knowledge of Food Imrsion as a shortcut to grasp it.
Even though he had only mastered one high-level technique, according to Jiro, he had already stepped into the realm of High-Level Knocking. He just needed more ti to learn the other skills.
And the fusion of Damage Knocking and Food Imrsion would also require a slow, thodical process.
To put it bluntly, Yuuki was still too weak.
He didn’t tell Jiro about this idea, not because he wanted to keep it a secret, but because the skill was still just a rough concept.
He was only able to master it because of his special Gourt Cells. Until he had fully developed and simplified the skill, he wouldn’t casually tell Jiro and the others.
If the power sealed within Jiro were to be released accidentally, the consequences would be unimaginable. He didn’t want to harm anyone, so he would wait until he had perfected it.
Yuuki would never hide things from Jiro. After all, Jiro had taught him everything; he had to rember that kindness.
Though Jiro was doing it to thank him for restoring Setsuno’s youth and extending her life, kindness between people was a two-way street.
Yuuki felt that kindness and would naturally pass it on. He couldn’t control what happened to others, but he didn’t want to see a master like Jiro die in the final battle because of such a ridiculous flaw.
That was how late-stage battles between powerhouses worked. The mont you found an opening, you went for the kill. Once you were hit, the chances of turning things around were almost zero.
It could be said that while the power levels in the world of Toriko might not be as absurd as in so other worlds, the risk in its combat was among the highest.
If it were like the neighboring One Piece world, where they fought for days on end with nothing to show for it, the risk would be pitifully low.
In that world, killing a top-tier powerhouse was incredibly difficult. Unless you ganged up on them, or they were foolish enough to fight to the death, it was almost impossible to kill them if they wanted to run.
But in this world, a single mont of carelessness could get you one-shotted. Just thinking about it made Yuuki’s scalp tingle. He needed this life-saving skill...
He had the basic frawork.
Now, he just needed to slowly perfect it. That would require him to continuously improve himself. Only with a sufficiently strong foundation could he complete this skill.
....
After finishing this round of training, Yuuki returned to Gourt Town. Upon his return, he received a gift from Granny Setsuno.
"The previously promised Golden Wheat... But the Rainbow Fruit is a surprise. Please thank Granny Setsuno for , Nono."
Yuuki was pleasantly surprised by the ingredients Nono delivered. He had expected only the Golden Wheat, but he never thought Setsuno would also get him a Rainbow Fruit.
"The Rainbow Fruit is nourished by the IGO. Although the quantity isn’t large, Master received quite a few from them. She said your Gourt Cells might need an ingredient like this, so she had bring it over."
Nono smiled and nodded, explaining the situation.
Yuuki was very familiar with the Rainbow Fruit. It was the second ingredient Toriko and Komatsu had gone to capture, the first being the Galala Gator from the Baron Archipelago.
In the original story, they had taken one fruit from the Rainbow Fruit tree in Biotope 8.
Toriko was that kind of person. He was a glutton, but not greedy. He only took one fruit and left the rest for the Troll Kongs.
However, his actions indirectly led to the extinction of the Troll Kongs.
But that wasn’t Toriko’s fault. It had to be said, the Troll Kongs just didn’t know their own limits.
An ingredient like the Rainbow Fruit, though its capture level wasn’t high, had a special characteristic common to all plant-based ingredients: its capture level depended entirely on its surroundings.
The Rainbow Fruit for example. Because it was guarded by the Troll Kongs, whose average capture level was only 9—with their leader, the Silverback, at level 10—the fruit’s capture level was only 12.
But what if it was guarded not by Troll Kongs, but by the Four-Beast? Then the difficulty of capturing it would skyrocket to over a hundred.
Plant-based ingredients all had this trait, including the Century Soup.
If it had appeared in the Gourt World instead of the Ice Hell, its capture level would have also soared. The effects of the Century Soup were terrifying—even the Gourt Cells of Ichiryu and the others would react to it.
It was in no way inferior to an ingredient with a capture level in the thousands.
The Troll Kongs simply couldn’t protect such an ingredient. The result was that when soone ca to covet it, they couldn’t possibly fight them off.
That tribe also didn’t seem to have much of a brain. Toriko had already co and captured a Rainbow Fruit. Under these circumstances, they should have known they would encounter other powerful beings who coveted it.
But perhaps Toriko’s rcy gave them the wrong impression, making them think they weren’t in any danger.
However, the second ti, it was the Gourt Corp who ca. They didn’t care if this was so ecological area, nor did they care about the lives of the Troll Kongs.
If the Troll Kongs got in their way, they would just wipe them out.
In the original story, one Rainbow Fruit was taken by Toriko and Komatsu, and the rest were taken by Starjun. Yuuki highly doubted Starjun would have left any behind.
So, this Rainbow Fruit was definitely not from that batch. Following the IGO’s usual habits, Yuuki figured they had already started mass-producing it.
The IGO had that capability.
After all, they had even managed to bring down the King of Vegetables, Ozone Herb, from the Sky Vegetable Garden and successfully nourish it. The Rainbow Fruit would naturally be no problem.
The reason Setsuno had sent it was because she knew his Gourt Cells were special. She had noticed during his Century Soup experience that his Cell Activation had boosted his level several tis more than Nono’s. That change was very surprising.
After all, the stronger you were, the smaller the boost from drinking the Century Soup. At the level of Midora and the others, the soup could only cause a slight fluctuation in their Gourt Cells.
So, Setsuno knew the Rainbow Fruit might be useful to him and had it sent over directly.
....
After Yuuki accepted the items, Nono left. Yuuki, anwhile, couldn’t wait to taste the Rainbow Fruit. An ingredient like this was truly fantastical. The juice of the Rainbow Fruit would evaporate and form tiny rainbows.
Then there was the aroma. If not contained, the fragrance of the Rainbow Fruit could spread for dozens of kiloters.
As Yuuki cut it open, the aroma began to spread. To avoid trouble, he used his Ki to isolate the fragrance, confining it to a certain area.
Otherwise, he estimated his house would be surrounded by countless people.
A single drop of juice from the Rainbow Fruit could turn a 25-ter swimming pool into a pool of juice.
An ingredient like this... honestly, if it weren’t for the special nature of the Toriko world, a normal person would probably die after a single bite.
Many of the ingredients in the world of Toriko contained far too much energy. People from other worlds couldn’t just eat them casually.
"As expected, Cell Activation! Though the boost isn’t as big as the Century Soup’s,"
After eating the Rainbow Fruit, before he could even imrse himself in its deliciousness, his Gourt Cells began to activate.
Every Cell Activation brought an imnse improvent.
For his Gourt Cells to still be able to improve after eating the Rainbow Fruit at his current level was excellent news for Yuuki.
After all, there were still a large number of special ingredients in the Human World waiting for him to find. After eating all of them, he estimated his cell level could break a thousand. As for his true combat power, that was hard to say.
But regardless, being able to get as strong as possible in the Human World was a good thing.
....
After the Cell Activation ended, Yuuki placed the rest of the Rainbow Fruit in his storage space. An ingredient like this had to be savored slowly.
Now, Yuuki turned his attention to the Golden Wheat. Golden Wheat wasn’t a rare ingredient, but it was a Special Preparation Ingredient.
In the world of Toriko, the difficulty of preparing ingredients was also graded. Normal ingredients, everyone could prepare. Special Preparation Ingredients required special thods or tools.
A normal chef would be completely lost in that situation. As for Super Special Preparation Ingredients, they required even higher culinary skills.
