Originally, this agreent wasn’t necessary, because when Sharon was born, Jas Grant and her weren’t even in a romantic relationship.
As an illegitimate child, Jas Grant couldn’t possibly obtain custody of Sharon.
But that’s just the usual case.
If Jas Grant really decided to fight for custody of Sharon, this matter would beco extrely troubleso.
Even though the Sinclair Family’s status in Aethelburg isn’t low, the Grant Family in Riversend is no pushover either.
When it cos down to it, whether or not the Sinclair Family can achieve victory, the impact on Sharon alone would be enough to make Evelyn Clayton wary.
"As long as you sign the agreent, I absolutely wouldn’t obstruct you eting with Sharon. We can discuss it; you can co to see Sharon regularly, either monthly or yearly—of course, that’s if you’re willing. If you’re not, we can just avoid this hassle."
Jas Grant looked at Evelyn Clayton numbly, listening to her words, his heart hollowing more and more, yet he couldn’t feel any pain anymore.
After Evelyn Clayton finished speaking, seeing that he had no reaction, she slightly furrowed her brow. "I’ve finished speaking, do you have any thoughts?"
Looking into Jas Grant’s deep eyes and seeing the sadness and struggle within them, Evelyn Clayton paused for a mont.
"So, Evelyn, you’re willing to et for the child’s sake, and willing for to see her, but you can’t, once again..."
Return to the past?
Jas Grant couldn’t bring himself to ask that question.
He owed so much, wanting to compensate, without knowing where to even begin.
Nevertheless, even though Jas Grant couldn’t ask the latter half of the question, Evelyn Clayton inexplicably felt she already knew what he wanted to say.
After a long silence, Evelyn Clayton’s tone beca weary and slow.
"Jas Grant." She softly called his na, just like before, "I know what you want to say, and I know you feel sorry for ."
"But I want to tell you, no one owes anyone. You helped a lot back then, your kindness to , I rember... maybe ti has passed too long, I’ve truly forgotten many things and can’t rember clearly."
"But the reason I can still rember a bit of your kindness isn’t because I still have lingering feelings, but simply because I don’t want my past to beco dim and dust-laden, unbearable to recall."
Evelyn Clayton raised her lids, gazing at Jas Grant, "In the beginning, I did resent you a little. But later I figured it out, what could I possibly resent you for? Though you treated poorly in those days before the incident, it doesn’t erase the good you did for in the past."
"You indirectly caused to almost hang by a thread, and I used five years of being lost in obscurity to get back at you."
"I think we can let each other go now, everyone should live their own lives well, don’t you think?"
Jas Grant’s eyes were bloodshot, and he stared unwaveringly at Evelyn Clayton, unwilling to avert his gaze for a long ti.
"Let each other go... Evelyn, I searched for you for five years, a whole five years. Perhaps I can let you go, but I already don’t know how to let myself go."
Evelyn Clayton felt a faint tightness in her chest.
She looked at Jas Grant, unsure of what to say.
Taking a silent breath, Evelyn Clayton slowly said, "I’ve always felt that learning to accept loss and gain is a lifelong lesson for people."
"I think I’ve learned quite enough, I hope you can also, let yourself go."
With those words, Evelyn Clayton felt it was enough.
She stood up, preparing to walk Jas Grant out, "If there’s nothing else to say, I need to get back to work now, take care."
Jas Grant also stood up, but he didn’t leave, lingering in place for a long ti.
"I want to see Sharon." Jas Grant said, taking a deep breath, "I will consider signing the agreent to relinquish custody."
