Yara Reagan paused, lowered her eyes to look at Iris Lockwood, then sat back down, putting away her phone, and looked at her leisurely.
"What are you afraid of?"
"I always feel like sothing’s missing when Evelyn’s not around," Iris Lockwood said softly. "I always feel unsafe."
Yara Reagan pressed her lips together without a word.
Their friendship, between her, Iris Lockwood, and Evelyn Clayton, had seemingly always been that way.
Evelyn Clayton seed to be their backbone.
That ti they fought, when Yara Reagan went ho from the company, at her angriest, she always felt like she was just a small follower around Evelyn Clayton, simply echoing and trailing after her.
Of course, that’s what she imagined.
In truth, Evelyn Clayton had always been the one protecting her.
She had arranged everything so that there would be no bumps or unhappiness; later, reconciling with Iris Lockwood, co-founding a company and starting a collaboration added another person Evelyn Clayton needed to protect.
She seed to want to take care of everyone around her, as if she needed no one’s help and could do everything on her own.
But this ti was different.
She took a big fall, so much so that Yara Reagan felt guilty even just to smile.
Yara Reagan thought, if she doesn’t bring Evelyn Clayton back, she might never be happy again.
Yara Reagan was never soone who liked to show her sadness outwardly.
She’d rather others think she was carefree than to wallow in sadness.
But this ti, it was just too painful.
Yara Reagan wrapped an arm around Iris Lockwood’s shoulder, and the two girls snuggled closely.
Iris Lockwood was a bit awkward at first, but quickly tightened her hold on Yara Reagan, leaning into her embrace.
"I know, I understand how you feel." Yara Reagan murmured softly, "You love her, and so do I."
Yara Reagan never believed that love was an emotion that could only occur between lovers or spouses.
The three of them had gone through so much together, weathering storms side by side, they were already more than just friends.
Iris Lockwood still stubbornly declared, "I’ve never felt this way before, maybe without her, I’m afraid I won’t make any money."
Yara Reagan chuckled, "Alright then, when Evelyn cos back, I’ll tell her that."
"Ugh, I was joking!" Iris Lockwood hurriedly sat up, glaring at her, "Don’t talk bad about !"
Yara Reagan gave her a sidelong glance, "Then say it, do you love Evelyn?"
Iris Lockwood hesitated for a mont, then turned her head and softly uttered a "mm".
Seeing her stubborn and proud deanor, Yara Reagan felt a little soft-hearted.
Actually, both Iris Lockwood and Evelyn Clayton were people without a ho.
Their parents were all trash, unworthy of being called parents.
Yara Reagan pinched Iris Lockwood’s cheek, speaking gently.
"I feel the sa. I believe Evelyn loves us too, we’ve been through so much, we can’t be beaten by this."
Iris Lockwood’s eyes reddened.
She lowered her eyes, her voice very small, like a mosquito’s buzz.
"In the past, I did many things that disappointed her. I knew, I knew she and I were actually the sa kind of people... I’ve always been scared, scared that one day, she wouldn’t want anymore."
"In fact, I understood long ago that in this life, Evelyn might be the only person who is truly my family."
Yara Reagan smiled, her eyes reddening, "What about , am I not?"
Iris Lockwood pressed her lips slightly, looking at Yara Reagan hesitantly, "Are you willing? I’ve always been afraid you weren’t..."
"I am willing." Yara Reagan’s voice softened, yet remained firm, "We are family. With here, we will definitely, definitely save her."
