"Bro—! Is that you?" Jasper looked at Evelyn in surprise. "Are you here to see my brother?"
Jasper and Evelyn had t before. During holidays, Harrison Grant always brought Evelyn to the Grant Family ho, fearing she would feel lonely and helpless by herself.
She usually politely declined, only going reluctantly if Harrison insisted.
When she went, she would just stay in the living room playing on her phone, then have a tacit al with them before leaving.
She rarely spoke with Jasper, knowing of him but having almost no interaction.
On the few occasions they bumped into each other, Jasper maintained a polite but distant attitude, neither overly familiar nor overly cold.
"You should call your sister," Evelyn looked Jasper up and down.
Seeing him so formally dressed, she knew he had a position in the company now.
How could Shirley Owens not place her son in the company?
"Sister Evelyn." Jasper imdiately corrected himself, voluntarily sitting beside her.
She instantly flipped over the paper.
"Sorry, occupational habit."
Jasper shook his head, indicating he didn’t mind.
"Sister Evelyn, did my brother ask you to wait for him here?"
"Yes. He had sothing to do and went to make a call first."
After saying this, the atmosphere turned awkward.
Evelyn acted as if nothing had happened, continuing to bury herself in drawing, only filling the border; the center was left for them to plan together.
Jasper’s gaze fell on her design, and he exaggeratedly complinted, "So cute!"
"Thank you."
Jasper wanted to say more and was about to get closer to her when soone suddenly walked in.
It was Jas, a fleeting, inscrutable emotion crossing his eyes as he spoke, "Jasper, what are you doing here?"
"Dad asked to learn from you." Jasper looked at him, aggrieved.
"...Why didn’t Dad co himself?"
Jasper chuckled, "Dad and Mom went on a trip. Tomorrow is their anniversary of eting, and they’re celebrating."
Saying this in front of Jas was the height of irony.
Wendy’s birthday back then, waiting at ho for so long, Harrison hadn’t cared at all, instead blaming her for being upset when he returned.
The special allure eventually lost to a changed heart.
"Let him teach you, I’m not capable."
"Bro—"
Afraid Jas would leave, Jasper quickly jumped down from the chair to block him, "Can’t you just get along with ?"
His tone was full of grievance, with a hint of pleading that would soften anyone else’s heart.
Yet Jas was unmoved.
"Aren’t we getting along now?"
"I an, like brothers who get along well, we—"
"Impossible." Jas refused outright.
Jasper looked down sadly, but still said nothing, leaving with his head hung low.
His unconcealed sadness touched Evelyn.
"You don’t like Jasper? He seems to have a good temper."
"So things aren’t as simple as they seem," Jas’s tone was slightly grave, unlike his earlier glibness. "I’ve told him long ago, don’t show up in front of ; I can’t be nice to him and his mom. If he insists on coming to , he can’t bla for my attitude."
"But he’s younger than you and just a child."
Jas sneered, "With a mom like that, how could he be rely a child? Don’t let him fool you; you speak up for him after just one eting. Do you like him?"
