Sumr Monroe was unable to enter through the main entrance.

The butler led her and Heather Donovan straight up to the second floor via the side entrance.

The intermittent sounds of laughter from the first floor filled Sumr with an inexplicable disdain for everything here.

Stopping before a pair of double doors to a bedroom, the butler paused and gently knocked on the door.

Sumr stood with a stern face, and Heather, catching the look on her face out of the corner of her eye, leaned in to whisper, "Sumr, once we’re inside, don’t keep that expression."

Sumr let out a light chuckle, the mockery in it was self-evident.

Finally, the door was gently opened, and two young girls dressed as maids stepped out.

Seeing the unnatural flush and flirtatiousness on their faces, a wave of nausea surged up Sumr’s throat, making her nearly gag.

Heather noticed too, her face paling sowhat.

One of the maids glanced at Heather, then leaned close to the butler to whisper sothing.

Soon, the butler dismissed the two maids with a wave, his voice calm, "Sir invites Miss inside. Mrs. Donovan, please wait here for a mont."

Heather’s eyes widened slightly, "But—"

Seeing the butler’s indifferent expression, Heather swallowed her words and forced a weak smile.

Taking a silent breath, Sumr stepped through that door.

The large doors gently closed behind her. Inside the spacious room, she saw a tall, slender figure standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows. From the back, it looked like a young man.

The man turned around, the fine lines at the corners of his eyes and his unique scholarly deanor betraying his age.

The features that bore a slight resemblance to Sumr’s were handso and elegant, not at all diminished by middle age. The innate air of authority made him seem imposing even without anger.

The man wore a faint smile, a small mole at the corner of his lips, holding a wine glass casually in his hand, the liquid inside a dark red.

He regarded Sumr leisurely, after a while opening his mouth, his voice relaxed and affable, "Sumr, long ti no see."

Sumr glanced into his eyes briefly, then quickly looked down again.

"Long ti no see..."

"Father."

Y Province.

In the morning, the sky had already turned overcast outside, and by the ti Evelyn Clayton had finished washing up, heavy rain was pouring down.

Gene Young had sent a ssage to Evelyn, saying he was going to scout the area and telling her to be careful when going out.

Evelyn replied with an acknowledgnt and then called Violet Ford.

On the other end, it seed like Violet had been waiting for her call, as it was answered after just a couple of rings.

"I was just about to call you," Violet’s voice was fraught with exhaustion, "and you happened to call."

Suppressing her urgency, Evelyn asked first, "Are you alright, Violet? You sound really tired."

Violet gave a bitter laugh, "I didn’t sleep all night. It’s the first ti I’ve stayed up this late at my age."

"What’s going on?" Evelyn asked, turning more solemn, "Is sothing wrong with Sumr’s situation?"

Violet’s voice carried a hint of a sigh, "I’m sorry, we lost track of them. Sumr and Heather seem to be actively on guard, fearing soone might be tailing them."

Evelyn gasped slightly, "Did they discover it was you tracking them?"

"I’m guessing they didn’t," Violet’s voice turned a shade deeper, "We can preliminarily confirm they haven’t gone to Y Province because I’ve had the entry points to Y Province checked, and there’s no sign of them. So, rest easy on that front."

Evelyn steadied herself a bit, but the doubts in her heart grew stronger.

If that’s the case, where could Sumr and Heather have gone at this critical ti?
