The elevator stopped on the fourth floor, and the two of them got off together. Evelyn Clayton went to Gene Young’s room first.
"I don’t suggest moving so quickly."
Once inside, Gene Young handed Evelyn a bottle of water. "If you have enough ti, it’s best to wait until the day after tomorrow or the day after that."
Evelyn asked, "Why do you say that?"
"To prevent soone from following you or ," Gene said in a low voice. "I need so ti to check if anyone is trailing us. If not, then we can act. But if there is, we might have to turn back this trip."
Although Evelyn had been very cautious before leaving, she hadn’t noticed anything unusual along the way, so she subconsciously felt she might be overthinking.
However, as Gene Young is a forr police officer, Evelyn naturally had an inherent trust in him.
Evelyn’s gaze turned a few shades more serious. "So you an to say that there’s a very high possibility we are being followed?"
Hearing this, Gene paused slightly, his expression a bit more solemn, and even his voice dropped. "A few days ago, I noticed soone was following near my house."
Evelyn silently gasped.
"Although I can’t be sure who it is yet, the less I know, the more careful we have to be," Gene said, pressing his temples as if troubled. "This is also why I didn’t tell you I was coming to Y Province. I was afraid of implicating you."
Evelyn let out a bitter laugh. "If there’s any implication, it’s probably implicating you. If I hadn’t contacted you, you likely wouldn’t have been dragged back into this ss."
After leaving Gene Young’s place, Evelyn returned to her own room.
Once inside, Evelyn locked the door, lay on the bed, and stared blankly at the ceiling.
If she guessed correctly, the person behind Sumr was likely already getting wary.
It might not take long before they make a move...
Now she’s in the open, while they’re in the dark.
The feeling of being watched from the shadows is truly unsettling.
After lying for a while, as the sky grew darker, Violet Ford called.
Evelyn answered, "Violet. I’ve arrived in Y Province."
Violet spoke, her tone sounding sowhat somber, "Is everything okay over there?"
Evelyn sat up, frowning slightly, "I’m fine... why do you ask?"
"I need to tell you sothing." For the first ti, Violet spoke hesitantly, "Around noon today, Sumr and Heather Donovan also left the province."
Evelyn’s heart tightened.
But soon, Violet continued, "But don’t worry that they’re coming for you. Franklin managed to have soone follow them, and we should have results soon. So, Evelyn, don’t rush to see Lars yet. Stay there for a couple of days and wait for my news, okay?"
Evelyn’s throat moved, and she replied softly with so difficulty, "Okay, I understand. Thank you for the reminder, Violet."
After hanging up, Evelyn stared blankly out the window.
The sunset was gradually setting, a scene that would usually be very pleasant and warm, but now, looking at it, Evelyn felt inexplicably uneasy.
Even if she were the calst person, being in a foreign place with no other friends except soone she had known for a short ti, it inevitably made Evelyn feels a bit unsettled.
She couldn’t shake the feeling that a storm was brewing.
After thinking for a long ti, Evelyn felt a small stir in her heart.
She changed her clothes, took a short break, then called Rhys Jacobs to inquire about so garnt fabric factory addresses in Y Province.
After the call, Evelyn’s gaze steadied, looking at the darkening sky outside, her eyes glinting with determination.
No matter what, this ti she must et Lars!
