It was as if they couldn’t help it, or perhaps sothing unexpected struck their funny bone. Jas Grant and Evelyn Clayton laughed for quite a while before finally composing themselves.
"Alright." Evelyn Clayton shook her head helplessly, "Stop laughing, let’s talk business."
Jas Grant’s dark eyes were sparkling, "What did you just say to that little girl?"
Evelyn Clayton’s expression turned serious, "I found out that Julia Lawrence did indeed co to their welfare ho a while ago, and it was Isabella Garrison who personally received her."
"Looks like there’s sothing fishy with Isabella Garrison." Jas Grant’s eyes deepened, "When I brought up Julia Lawrence, Isabella Garrison said she didn’t rember such a person. No matter how I asked afterward, she always had an excuse to dodge."
He paused, "But speaking of which, that little girl didn’t know her, so how did she know the visitor was Julia Lawrence?"
"By deducing the ti the little girl saw the person and their attire, I guess that person was most likely Julia Lawrence. Because she said it had been a long ti since anyone from outside had co to the welfare ho, and recently, there was only that one visit."
After Evelyn Clayton finished speaking, she fell into deep thought, "Do you think Julia Lawrence ca here for sothing?"
Jas Grant’s tone was sowhat grave, "Judging by the tea Isabella Garrison drinks and the strange happenings at Ardendale Welfare Ho, it’s highly likely that Julia Lawrence ca to give money to the welfare ho."
Evelyn Clayton looked at him and asked, "How so?"
"If we could check Julia Lawrence’s personal accounts, this could be confird. See if she’s had any regular expenditures over the past two years. If there are, they’re most likely donations to the welfare ho that raised her."
Jas Grant’s words beca increasingly somber.
And Evelyn Clayton gradually understood.
If that’s really the case, then it’s almost certain that Julia Lawrence committed suicide.
For a mont, neither of them spoke. Noticing Evelyn Clayton’s low spirits, Jas Grant instructed the driver to raise the partition in the backseat, leaving the place.
After the car drove on the highway, Evelyn Clayton slowly exhaled a breath.
Jas Grant silently held Evelyn Clayton’s hand, "Don’t worry, I will have soone check Julia Lawrence’s account and notify you as soon as we have results."
Evelyn Clayton felt the warm temperature in Jas Grant’s palm, and a faint obscure emotion flashed across her eyes.
Then, Evelyn Clayton looked at Jas Grant and smiled, "Thank you."
"You and I, there’s no need for such words," Jas Grant’s smile was slight, "Anything I do for you is entirely willing."
On returning to Evelyn Clayton’s place, it was only natural for Jas Grant to stay.
As evening approached, Evelyn Clayton got up from bed, dragging her sowhat sore and tired body, and stood dazed in the dark for a while.
The room still carried a lingering scent from their passion. Evelyn Clayton put on a shirt, turned to look at Jas Grant, who was still asleep, with an inscrutable expression.
She moved to the small balcony of the bedroom, lit a cigarette in the moonlit night just beginning to rise.
Amidst the swirling smoke, she heard movent on the bed inside the bedroom, Jas Grant seed to have awakened.
A mont later, Evelyn Clayton was embraced from behind, her cigarette gently taken from her hand, and extinguished in the nearby ashtray by the man.
Warm kisses landed on her shoulder, feeling so tender in the night filled with tangled emotions.
Yet, Evelyn Clayton’s mind was exceptionally clear.
As Jas Grant kissed more passionately from behind, they beca entwined once more.
Pushed back onto the bed, Evelyn Clayton closed her eyes, shading the darkness in her gaze.
