Sumr Monroe’s fist tightened, her eyes slightly red.
The struggle and entanglent in her eyes didn’t seem fake. After a long while, she squeezed out her words one by one through her teeth: "What do you want to do? See Soren Foster?"
"I want you to deliver him to personally." Evelyn Clayton raised her eyebrows slightly, smiling gently as if she was being considerate, "I know there’s sothing special between you two, asking you to send him to the police would be too cruel. See, how much I consider your feelings."
After speaking, Evelyn Clayton turned around, waved her hand at her, "One day, I’ll wait for you."
Watching Evelyn Clayton walk away, Sumr Monroe kicked the table leg in frustration, her bloodshot eyes full of hesitation and indecision.
It was a long ti before Sumr Monroe managed to compose herself and went downstairs to catch a ride.
The driver had been waiting for a long ti. When he saw Sumr Monroe and was about to speak, her unfriendly expression made him swallow hard.
Sumr Monroe noticed and asked impatiently, "What is it?"
"A call ca in... from over there." The driver stuttered, taking a phone from the storage compartnt of the front seat and handing it to Sumr Monroe.
With a tight throat and a trembling hand, Sumr Monroe took the phone.
She turned on the screen and saw the missed call, her eyes flashing with real fear and unease.
She swallowed dryly, fingertips trembling slightly, and dialed that number back.
As Sumr Monroe placed the receiver to her ear, the driver tactfully got out of the car.
The long wait made Sumr Monroe increasingly nervous as she futilely tapped her fingers, waiting for the person on the other end of the line.
After a long while, with just the sound of a beep, the call connected.
Sumr Monroe’s heart leapt into her throat in an instant.
As usual, Sumr Monroe’s voice was dry and hoarse, full of flattery and caution: "...Did you call for sothing?"
The prolonged silence on the other end made Sumr Monroe shiver uncontrollably. She forcibly suppressed that fear, waiting for the judgnt of the person on the phone.
Every minute felt like agony, and just as Sumr Monroe suspected the person on the other end hadn’t heard her, there was finally a response.
A slightly hoarse and deep male voice spoke, inherently commanding respect, even across the phone lines, enough to make Sumr Monroe unable to complete her sentences.
The man’s tone was very calm, not showing any emotion: "What’s with the news these past couple of days?"
Sumr Monroe licked her lips, a mix of grievance and natural fear, and said softly: "No, it wasn’t ..."
"But that woman is soone you ntioned to before, you had soone approach her." The man’s tone gradually gained a sharp edge, "What’s really going on?"
Sumr Monroe panicked, "I, I really don’t know! It really wasn’t ! I’m looking for Soren Foster now, once... once I find him, I’ll know what happened!"
Another long silence ensued.
Suddenly, the voice spoke again: "Do you rember what I warned you about before?"
Sumr Monroe bit her lip hard, whispering: "Not to cause trouble for you..."
"Have you kept that in mind?" The man’s voice was stern, "The little tricks you and your mother play, I can turn a blind eye, but you better be careful."
Hearing a hint of leniency in the man’s tone, Sumr Monroe seized the opportunity, her voice becoming sweet and soft, almost coquettish: "I understand! I won’t let this matter affect you!"
"You’d better do what you say." The man snorted coldly, "How’s your health recently? No more episodes?"
