After hesitating for a mont, Evelyn Clayton got into the passenger seat.
She fastened her seatbelt and looked over at Jas Grant.
Jas Grant’s jawline seed a bit tense, it’s unclear whether he was nervous or angry about sothing.
"What a coincidence," Evelyn said softly, "to run into you here."
Jas drove the car onto a ramp and said in a low voice, "There’s a flagship store of brand H nearby, they have the size of the gift I want."
Out of the corner of her eye, Evelyn saw an orange bag sitting on the back seat.
She suddenly rembered seeing Jas and Lynn Yates at the mall that day, and they had gone into this very luxury store.
"Is it a gift for your father?" Evelyn’s hand resting on her knee curled slightly, her fingertips touched the tender skin of her palm, and she unconsciously clenched it, "Very thoughtful."
Jas was surprised that Evelyn would chat with him so calmly.
In fact, the fact that Evelyn got into the car without saying anything was astonishing enough.
"Yes, I can’t go empty-handed." Jas turned at an intersection, which was on the way to Evelyn’s house, "Shall I take you ho first?"
Evelyn responded with a faint hum.
After a while, she suddenly spoke, though her eyes still watched the swiftly passing street view outside, "Aren’t you curious why I am near Vernal Street?"
"So, why?" Jas finally managed to ask the question he’d been holding back.
Just now, he had clearly seen that the direction Evelyn ca from was a residential alley with hardly any restaurants.
Oh, the Vernal Street Police Station is there.
Jas felt genuinely puzzled.
But he didn’t dare to ask more, fearing it would anger Evelyn.
"I went to the police station to handle so matters," Evelyn spoke slowly, "Earlier, the driver who was complicit with John Jacobs in kidnapping , his family was found, and sohow, they contacted the Vernal Street Police Station."
Jas thought for a mont, recalling, "You asked the police in Y Province to find that driver’s family for you before, was it to help take care of them?"
Evelyn suddenly turned to look at him and countered with a different question, "Do you know what that driver’s na was?"
Her topic shifted strangely, leaving Jas montarily baffled.
But soon, Jas still frowned slightly and said softly, "I don’t know."
"His na is Lars Alden," Evelyn said slowly, "His father is Morgan Alden, does that na sound familiar to you?"
The two nas were completely unfamiliar, and Jas couldn’t recall anyone he knew with those nas.
But he sensed sothing was off about Evelyn’s emotions.
He glanced sidelong at Evelyn.
Now that he was close, Jas noticed the redness and slight swelling at the corners of Evelyn’s eyes.
The car was already near Evelyn’s apartnt complex. Jas pressed the accelerator to drive in and parked in the nearest spot inside the complex.
"Have you been crying?" Jas stared at Evelyn, "What’s wrong?"
Evelyn was still looking outside. At the sound of his voice, she turned slightly and suddenly revealed a faint smile, "It’s nothing. I just felt bad after hearing at the police station that Lars Alden’s wife has had a hard ti."
No, sothing’s off.
Such a voice arose in Jas’s heart.
Evelyn is not usually this sentintal.
However, before Jas could ask more, Evelyn abruptly said, "Since you’re already here, why don’t you co up for a bit? I happened to buy a gift for Uncle Grant yesterday too. You can help see if he’ll like it."
