"Director Clayton..."
Julia Lawrence showed no panic, not even fear.
She simply looked at Evelyn Clayton, her tear-filled eyes seed both relieved and resigned.
Evelyn Clayton watched her calmly, as if giving her ample ti and opportunity to say what she wanted to say.
"I’m sorry." Julia muttered and then got up to leave the eting room.
It took Evelyn a long ti to leave, and by then, Julia was already gone.
For so reason, Evelyn felt an indescribable sense of unease.
Maybe Julia had just disappointed her too much...
Evelyn could only think like this, as she took the hard drive with the surveillance footage and brought it ho.
Iris Lockwood was still there and, upon seeing her co ho, was anxious: "How did it go, how did it go?"
Evelyn helplessly curved her lips and placed the surveillance footage on the big TV screen for Iris to see.
After watching it, Iris’ face turned livid, looking as if she was about to curse: "I can’t believe this... You treated her so well! The salary you give her could hire another employee with the sa level of skill!"
"This matter is about to end." Evelyn said unhurriedly, as she copied and pasted the contents of the surveillance footage, then opened a computer to find an email address that had been long neglected.
Iris peeked over to read, and noted the email’s abbreviation: "Tango—damn, it’s Sumr Monroe’s email?!"
"Yes." Evelyn decisively sent the contents of the surveillance footage over.
Iris was dumbfounded: "What do you an? Are you using email to blackmail her?! Why not just send it to the police?!"
Evelyn chuckled lightly: "If I send it to the police, Soren Foster will be thrown under the bus by Sumr, and then Julia will be condemned by public opinion. It’s not that I feel sorry for Julia. I just don’t want a pyrrhic victory."
"But, but Julia did sothing wrong, wouldn’t this be letting her off?" Iris was quite displeased, "I an, don’t be such a saint!"
Evelyn looked at Iris, her expression serious: "What do you an by ’saint’? I don’t quite understand."
Iris paused for a mont, "It ans, it ans being too kind-hearted!"
"Since when is being kind-hearted a bad thing? I don’t understand." Evelyn said earnestly, "Since the essence of a ’saint’ represents kindness, how could the word ’saint’ be a bad thing?"
Iris hurriedly explained, "It’s not just kindness! ’Saint’ also signifies weakness and incompetence—it’s not a good description at all!"
"Then why is the term ’Holy Father’ used by so religions to describe the supre deity they worship?" Evelyn stood up and went to the fridge to pour herself a glass of juice, "I really don’t want Julia to be sneered at because, in my view, harming one woman just to get rid of Sumr’s pawn isn’t worth it."
Iris insisted: "But Julia betrayed you! If it weren’t for her betrayal, how would Gem end up mired in scandals?"
Evelyn smiled and shook her head: "As I ntioned before, this situation brought quite a few benefits for Gem, increasing her exposure, which isn’t entirely a bad thing. Moreover, the harm Julia caused didn’t touch my essence or tear at my soul. But if her actions were revealed, it would be a different story. She would be damned for eternity because of Soren, perhaps imprisoned for a while, but for the rest of her life, she would live under the shadow of being stigmatized."
Apparently not understanding Evelyn’s words, Iris stood there stunned.
"I never thought of ’saint’ as a bad word, nor do I wish to distort the aning of a feminine term. Maybe I am a bit of a saint, but I haven’t forgiven Julia. I never will, but I understand her."
"Therefore, I will choose another way to end this absurd farce."
