It took a while for the other end to pick up.
A soft breathing sound ca from the receiver, and Jas Grant felt like his heart had stopped.
"Hello?" After a while, Evelyn Clayton’s voice ca through, with no discernible emotion, "Jas Grant, what’s up?"
It was as if sothing gently fell to the ground, giving Jas an inexplicable sense of relief.
Keith Donovan didn’t dare to breathe deeply, his expression complex as he watched Jas Grant.
Jas was oblivious to him, his lips involuntarily curled into a slight smile.
"What are you doing?" Jas fiddled with the blinds, his voice deep and hoarse, "I saw those videos online..."
There was a long silence on the other end, then Evelyn asked bluntly, "What do you want to say?"
Jas’s lips, poised but untangled, froze, not knowing what to say for a long ti.
Keith saw this expression clearly and couldn’t bear it anymore, so he plucked up his courage and went closer.
"Evelyn! Long ti no see!" Keith laughed heartily, then took the phone from Jas’s hand and turned on the speaker.
Evelyn seed to be stunned, only speaking after a while with suspicion, "Keith?"
Ignoring Jas’s murderous gaze, Keith chuckled, "Yeah, it’s . I’m here with Jas right now. I heard you got into so trouble these past few days, and both Jas and I were quite worried, so we thought we’d call and check in!"
"I’m fine." Evelyn’s tone returned to normal, "Thank you and Director Grant for your concern."
Under Jas’s gloomy stare, Keith continued bravely, "So, want to grab dinner tonight? I’ll invite Trevor Hawthorne too, it’s been a while since we last t, and I have sothing to discuss with you."
Evelyn naturally refused without thinking, "I’ve got a lot going on recently, I’m afraid I won’t have ti."
Hearing this, Jas wanted to snatch the phone, but Keith dodged his hand, "Hey, it’s just a al, it won’t take much ti. Besides, let us help with what’s been going on these days!"
With repeated invites, Evelyn found it hard to reject them multiple tis.
After a long silence, Evelyn reluctantly said, "Then you pick the place, I’ll co over later."
"Great, it’s settled!"
After hanging up, Keith faced Jas’s nearly murderous look and chuckled awkwardly, "Dude, don’t be angry, isn’t this perfect? You’re really worried about her, right? You can see her and offer solace in person!"
Before Jas could speak, Keith quickly said, "You have to go! Bro, I’m creating an opportunity for you. What’s the use of you brooding by yourself every day? Better to et face-to-face and clear things up!"
Jas darkly replied, "Do I need you to worry about ?"
"Why not!" Keith surprisingly straightened up, "Didn’t you tell to pursue Lynn Yates? Don’t let end up winning Lynn over while you haven’t made progress; it would make feel disloyal."
Jas raised an eyebrow with a cold smile, "Are you really planning to pursue Lynn Yates?"
Keith nodded, "Yes, I really am. I quite like her. What, does that bother you?"
Jas couldn’t be bothered to reply.
Thinking about eting Evelyn tonight, Jas felt inexplicably nervous.
Almost thirty years in, he’s never felt this way before.
Keith Donovan, who had been Jas’s good friend for years, could tell at a glance what Jas was thinking.
He patted Jas on the shoulder earnestly.
"Brother, from soone who’s been there, here’s a word of advice: sotis chasing your wife isn’t about dignity or face, letting go of your pride is the most important, got it?"
