Evelyn Clayton trembled as she closed her eyes tightly, seemingly absorbing endless warmth from Jas Grant.
But her heart was full of bitter laughter.
Only at tis like this did she dare to let her emotions spill out a little.
As if the heavy rain outside could wash away all the baseness.
After a long while, Evelyn gently pushed Jas away.
In the dim car light, Evelyn saw the flicker in Jas Grant’s eyes and slightly lowered her gaze.
"Thank you." Evelyn spoke, her voice extrely hoarse, "For today, I’ve troubled you."
A mont of panic flashed across Jas’s face, as if he wanted to say sothing, but the words seed stuck in his throat.
Until Quentin Hale broke the silence.
"Director Grant, let’s head to the hospital first." Quentin cautiously suggested.
Jas gazed at Evelyn for a long ti before finally looking away, saying softly, "Let’s go."
At the hospital, the doctor did a simple examination of Evelyn.
Evelyn was hardly injured, except for the red marks on her wrists and ankles left by John Jacobs tying her up, and a few scratches on her knees from climbing out the window.
"It’s nothing serious, just be careful not to let the wounds get infected, especially with the rain these days."
After getting the dicine, Evelyn walked out of the consultation room and saw Jas smoking under the eaves at the hospital entrance, watching the rain.
Evelyn walked forward slowly, and Jas looked over at the sound, his eyes unfathomable.
After a brief eye contact, Evelyn tugged at the corners of her lips, showing a stiff smile, "Give one."
Jas was slightly taken aback and instinctively took out the cigarette box.
When Evelyn reached out to take it, Jas realized and tried to pull back, but Evelyn quickly stopped him.
Taking out a cigarette, Evelyn lit it and exhaled a long stream of smoke.
The smoke drifted into the rain and soon disappeared without a trace.
Jas looked at Evelyn in slight astonishnt, watching her skillfully exhale the smoke. Her pale, almost transparent skin added a touch of fragility, as if she might vanish with the smoke and rain at any mont.
"When did you learn this?" Jas didn’t know what to say, hesitating before asking dryly.
Evelyn’s lips twitched, amused and helpless, "I’ve always known, but I don’t smoke much. I do it when I’m troubled."
She flicked the cigarette ash skillfully, as if chatting with an old friend, "I’ll have to trouble you to take to the hotel later."
When John Jacobs kidnapped her, all her luggage was taken away. Currently, the police haven’t returned her belongings, and Evelyn didn’t even have her phone on her.
Jas didn’t say anything, only took the dicine from Evelyn’s hand and then led her to the car.
Arriving at a hotel entrance, Jas and Evelyn got out of the car together, but instead of going to the hotel front desk to book a room, Jas took Evelyn straight to the elevator.
Evelyn realized and instinctively wanted to refuse, but the words got stuck in her throat and she swallowed them back down.
Right now, she needed help, so it was best not to complicate matters.
The hotel suite was large, the room clean and tidy as if no one had ever stayed there, only the computer on the table exposed the fact that Jas lived here.
Realizing the hotel was just a street away from where she had stayed before, Evelyn fell silent for a long ti.
"I haven’t touched anything in the bathroom; you should take a hot shower first, so you don’t catch a cold." Jas said in a low voice, turning on the air conditioning before turning to leave, "I’ll bring the clothes to the door later."
