Evelyn Clayton’s lips trembled, swallowing her scream.

She nodded vigorously, indicating she wouldn’t move recklessly.

The man’s hand slowly moved away from her lips, and after a while, he let out a hasty low laugh, "Evelyn Clayton, do you know who I am?"

Evelyn shivered slightly.

The man’s deep, hoarse voice was like a bone-chilling steel knife in the night, carving cracks in her eardrums.

"What do you want? Money?" Evelyn maintained her last ounce of composure, "I can give you that."

Suddenly, a sharp coldness pressed against Evelyn’s waist, and the man snorted lightly, "Who said I want money?"

Evelyn’s heart sank halfway.

If it’s not money, then it’s her life—

Amidst a whirlwind of thoughts, the man behind her suddenly let out a muffled groan.

In a flash, that coldness moved away from Evelyn.

Evelyn turned her head sharply, only to see, under the moonlight, a figure entangled with the man in black.

"Jas Grant?!" Evelyn gasped in a low voice, watching the scene before her in disbelief.

Jas had sohow leapt out, tightly wrestling with the man in black!

The man in black wore a mask, obscuring his features, and the knife in his hand glead coldly as it aid straight for Jas’s face!

Evelyn pulled out her phone, opened the cara, and quickly pressed the shutter.

The flash startled the man in black, causing him to instinctively dodge, and his knife diverted off course, while Jas raised his hand to block—

"Ugh!"

Jas let out a muffled groan, and a gash imdiately opened on his arm.

The next second, the man in black seed afraid and took two steps back, then swiftly ran into the darkness of the intersection.

Soon, he had vanished without a trace.

Jas wanted to give chase but was halted as Evelyn caught up and grabbed his shirt.

"You’re hurt!" Evelyn focused on the wound on his arm, "Don’t go after him; he’s scared to be discovered here. It’s dangerous if you chase him to a deserted place."

Jas’s hair was disheveled, covering his sharp, handso features.

He looked up at Evelyn, his Adam’s apple moving slightly, hesitating to speak.

Evelyn glanced at him with a complicated expression, then let go of his shirt.

Both of them were slightly panting, not yet recovered from the terror of the encounter.

"...Let’s go, upstairs, I’ll take care of your wound."

Evelyn said in a resigned voice and turned towards the apartnt building entrance.

Upstairs, inside her apartnt, the warm lights suddenly flared up.

Only then did Evelyn pull herself slightly away from the previous fear.

She glanced back at Jas, who was following her with lowered eyes, and sighed lightly, taking out slippers for him.

"Wait for on the sofa; I’ll go get the dicine."

Evelyn’s tone was rather cold. Jas sat on the sofa, watching her back, the light in his eyes flickering.

After a while, Evelyn ca back with bandages and iodine, sitting next to Jas.

She cut away the torn sleeve with scissors and, seeing the bloody wound on his sturdy forearm, she instinctively drew a sharp breath.

She softened her movents, disinfected it, applied iodine, muttering in reproach.

"Why did you engage in a barehanded fight with that person? If you saw being held hostage, you should have called the police promptly."

Jas remained silent for a long ti, which drew Evelyn’s sidelong glance.

Their gazes t suddenly, Jas’s eyes full of inscrutable emotions.

He opened his mouth, but what he said was off-topic.

"Why didn’t you answer my calls?"

Evelyn paused in her actions.

Her expression gradually froze, speaking woodenly.

"Because I answered your father’s call. Guess what he asked to do?"
