Chapter 186: 186. Second Batch
Henry’s POV
The doctor closed his eyes in agony, tears streaming down his cheeks.
"I... I don’t know where your... your friend is."
"Mhm, continue." I said. Naturally, he wouldn’t know.
"The... the survivors are here..." He pressed out, under what looked like imnse pain. After finishing, he wanted to slip into unconsciousness, but I put my finger on his thigh, burning a hole through his skin. That woke him up just fine.
He widened his eyes and groaned.
"Your... your sister. I can bring you to her. Please... no more."
My face fell. Why did they have Henrietta but not Kenny?
"Bring
to her." I said and stood up. I retracted the shadowy energy from my body and pulled the doctor up by his white robe.
I felt a bout of weakness, showing that using this trendous power wasn’t sothing I could sustain for long. Suppressing it and waiting for the guards to finally break through the door, I used the doctor as a shield for possible gunfire, having one hand on his throat.
"If things aren’t working the way I want, we will just die together." I whispered threateningly in his ear.
Eventually, the guards managed to break through the window embedded in the wall to co in.
I silently waited for the doctor’s performance while looking at the guns that were pointed at us.
"Guns... guns down..."
"Dr. Carell... but... last ti..." A guard began.
"It doesn’t matter! Can’t you see in which state I am?" The doctor bellowed back, and the guards turned obedient, all of them putting their guns down and sliding them to .
"Now, all of you lead the way while the doctor gives the directions." I picked up two guns, and after securing one, I put it inside my pants. The other I held at the doctor’s temple.
Like little geese, we wandered down a staircase, and the doctor led
and the guards to a white room. One of the guards unlocked it.
I told them to go to the other end of the corridor, where I could still see them, before looking inside the cell while still holding the half-lted doctor.
Henrietta was inside, unconscious, leaning against the wall. She was dressed all in white, like myself, with an additional straitjacket on her. Her short hair was shaved on one side, and she had a scar in the middle of the shaved spot as well as the remnants of so markers.
"What the hell did you do to her?" I hissed, pressing the gun tighter against the doctor’s temple. If she couldn’t open portals anymore, everything was over.
"We... We just... stimulated the different areas of her brain... to find the origin of her ability... The helt hadn’t worked on her... so we had to..."
So they knew of her ability, either from the survivors in the laboratory telling them or because they sohow knew she had opened the portal back then. Or... she used her ability on Kenny during that ’riot.’
And if my little shadow counterpart hadn’t completely rged with , would they really cut my brain open?
"HENRIETTA! WAKE UP!" I yelled at her until she stirred.
Looking around blankly, she finally began crying when she spotted the doctor being held hostage by .
"Why did you take so long?!" She said, unsteadily trying to stand up in the straitjacket.
"Where is Kenny?" I asked her.
"He said you should hurry the hell up and get the others out and that he had sothing to take care of." Henrietta replied, finally standing.
"Take that thing off her." I commanded the doctor while again getting overwheld by a bad feeling.
As the doctor removed the jacket with his one good hand, I addressed Henrietta.
"What does he have to take care of?"
"You think he would tell ?" She asked, now calr again.
"Where is he?" I repeated more sharply.
"I don’t know!" She yelled back as the jacket finally fell. I handed her a gun, even though I would have preferred not to. It would only be temporary.
"Take us to the survivors." I dragged the doctor a few steps back and called for the guards, who hadn’t moved a bit.
"Go ahead!"
As before, we walked to the first underground floor, where we found Kenny’s grandma holding a guard at gunpoint while he opened a cell. Behind her were about ten survivors, who apparently had already been let out.
Regrettably, there was no Kenny with them.
Mrs. Howard spotted
and Henrietta, the Geeseguards between us.
"...." I didn’t know what to say.
"Took your sweet ti, didn’t you? Waited until this old lady had to act?" She chided
across the corridor.
"...." I turned to Henrietta,
"Open the portal to our world."
"I need blood."
"Co." I motioned for her to take what she needed, and she did so imdiately. Because my hands were full, she opted to slide my white shirt away and sank her teeth into my shoulder.
Under the unbelieving eyes of the guards standing around aimlessly, she took her fill, and this ti—probably because I had already overexerted myself—I could feel my strength drain. It wasn’t so bad that I would fall unconscious or sothing, but it was noticeable.
When she finished, she made a gesture in the air.
"Is that our ho?" I asked her, and she nodded.
"It is, I promise."
I nodded and pushed the doctor to her.
"I’ll go and check; the doc is your hostage now."
Going inside, I was again in a forest, and I felt the sun shining down on . A light breeze gently caressed , and I could see a few skyscrapers in the distance, telling
it was our city in our world, though this was on the other side of the city from the place where we let the first batch go.
So Henrietta really hadn’t lied.
And it was good that we weren’t in the sa place as before because if there were authorities there after surviving people from the south southdistrict suddenly showed up, they would only bother us.
I walked back through the portal and took the doctor away from Henrietta before holding my hand out.
"The gun."
There was a bit of unwillingness on her face, but she gave it back.
"EVERYONE FROM OUR WORLD, THIS IS THE WAY HO!" I yelled to the survivors on the other side of the corridor, near Mrs. Howard.
They hesitantly walked past the guards before stopping in front of the portal.
"GO!" I bellowed, and they finally stepped inside.
