Chapter 174: 174. Leaving with Grandma

1

Henry’s POV

This was the second ti I had sought out Kenny’s grandma while he was inside a prison. The first ti had been in our world when I left the hospital after our return from the first world. Back then, I got slapped across the face by her, and whoever thought that an old woman had no strength would be terribly wrong.

Still, I did deserve it, and she even arranged for

to visit Kenny as soon as he left the hospital ward in the prison.

I didn’t think I’d get slapped again this ti, but just to make sure that orange-haired woman wouldn’t get suspicious if I took violence from my ’savior,’ I asked her to leave for a mont. Though bewildered, she left us alone.

"I have left my grandson by your side, thinking you would take care of him. Now I couldn’t see him for a week, and instead, you ca." Mrs. Howard seethed visibly.

I leaned against the closed door.

"He is in prison again."

She grabbed her walking stick tightly, as if ready to co and beat .

"He is imprisoned for his counterpart’s murder again." I imitated Kenny and pressed my palms against my eyes to see if this would help against the despair, and it really did. I feel sohow connected to him when doing this.

"What is your plan?" Her voice was more chilling than before, but covering my eyes helped

to stay calm.

"To pose as my counterpart, The Commander. Get Henrietta, my parents, and you, Mrs. Howard, out of here, and then get Kenny out. Then free the people inside the laboratory and find The Four Hundred and have Henrietta bring us sowhere else." I’d prefer to leave the others behind and directly go, but that wouldn’t sit well with Kenny.

She snorted.

"Does your counterpart have this kind of authority?"

I pressed my palms more tightly against my eyes.

"I don’t know."

"Your sister is here; your parents are not." She inford .

Good. If my parents are in the laboratory, then Henrietta will probably work together with . They just have to survive during their stay there, not only for my sake but also for Henrietta not to lose it again.

I put my hands away and nodded.

"Please take on the role of her grandmother. I will take you two with

now. The orange-haired woman is my counterpart’s wife. I told her that you are my savior; please cooperate so that they won’t suspect us."

"The worst thing that happened in my grandson’s life was eting you and your sister." Mrs. Howard smiled at

coldly, and the hatred she felt for

was as obvious as day.

"I know," I choked out.

"I will repent for my sins with my life. Your grandson won’t find an ally more indebted and loyal to him than myself."

She scoffed at

but didn’t say more as she stood up.

I turned and opened the door, looking at that woman and the one from the front desk who had gone but apparently had again returned.

"I hope you don’t mind. I want my savior to co with us, along with her granddaughter." I forced myself to stroke Maxi’s hair.

She looked at , startled.

"Is this... necessary?" When she saw Mrs. Howard exiting the room after , she went silent.

"Yes, we have enough space." A commander should have a big house.

"And I owe them my life."

She nodded, not happy, but accepting my decision.

The woman from the front desk wanted to ask a question, probably about that ’granddaughter’s na,’ when Mrs. Howard started to walk toward a room. Opening it, she pointed inside with her walking stick.

I followed her and found Henrietta sleeping on her bed. Unusually silent of her.

"Ah, that one. Just as violent since she heard that her parents were brought to the hospital. We had no choice but to sedate her." The Front Desk Woman explained, becoming angry again. Hospital was probably what they told the people; I bet they are in the laboratory.

"We take her and her grandmother."

"Co with

and fill out so forms." I followed her, anwhile trying to figure out if my signature would be the sa as that of my counterpart. I had no reference to compare them.

However, luckily, filling out forms ant putting my fingerprint on sothing like a very thin tablet, so that was a relief.

I was forced to carry Henrietta out because she wouldn’t wake up, much to the dismay of that orange-haired woman, but also to mine. Mrs. Howard could surely carry her new granddaughter by herself, but besides her hating Henrietta more than anyone else, it would also look strange if she managed to carry a grown woman without a problem.

The car was now fully occupied, Kenny’s grandma sitting beside the unconscious Henrietta, across from

and the orange-haired woman.

The car started, and Maxi finally addressed Mrs. Howard.

"I heard you are the lifesaver of my husband. Thank you so much, from

as well."

Mrs. Howard nodded sternly, and when the car took a curve and Henrietta’s head slid to her shoulder, she pushed it away forcefully, showing clear disgust. There was a loud thud, and I had to suppress a laughing fit.

Maxi was shocked and uncomfortably turned the ring on her finger.

"She is my step-granddaughter." Mrs. Howard explained, as if that would justify her rough deanor.

Maxi smiled oddly and stopped talking altogether, while I looked into the prison where Kenny was held. A simple search quickly revealed it, along with visiting hours and the like.

I bet The Commander can arrange a eting with a prisoner without any caras. I have to get into the DATF office and look into the authority my counterpart holds. The first step is exploring a possible office at the commander’s ho, uncovering any potential passwords he had noted down sowhere, and the like.

The car stopped, and I looked at a beige, modern villa with wood panels.

However, more prominent were the kids I had heard of from the orange-haired woman, Sarah, and Max, who stood before the house, each holding the hand of a nanny.

I don’t want to leave the car.

Everything inside

refuses to et these strange kids and play their father.

Mrs. Howard chortled after looking out of the window. She looked down at , though still seated, probably piecing together who these two orange-haired children were.

"What sweet children you have, Commander."

She was clearly laughing at , but how could I feel anything other than nostalgia, as Kenny would have probably said the exact sa thing in the exact sa sarcastic tone?
