Chapter 170: 170. Corruption

The good ol’ interrogation room, though it was not looking like the one in my old prison, still had a see-through mirror and a desk against which I was chained.

And again tried to wear

down by letting

wait.

My plan was already set, so I leaned back with my hands on the desk, waiting.

Hmm, as I looked at the image of myself in the mirror, I noticed that I hadn’t shaved for a long ti, yet my face was as hairless as it could be, at least my cheeks and stuff.

A side effect from grading up? Doesn’t matter, but it’s a good one.

Henry had managed to shave sohow inside the parallel world, and I hadn’t noticed a new stubble on him as well.

Maybe because our bodies got stronger and faster, so body functions were stopped.

"Mr. Howard." A black-haired man entered, looking more like an office clerk and not a police officer.

I didn’t answer because I didn’t want to acknowledge this identity. Though I had no plan on telling them that they had the wrong guy. They wouldn’t believe

anyway, so why waste my breath? I had done that already far too often in my last prison stint.

"Mr. Howard, regarding how you managed to break out...." He had sat down and was now revising so papers.

I tapped the table with my index finger, imitating Henry.

"I’ll tell you everything. In exchange, I want to get access to a tattoo artist. Tomorrow my prison mate gets visited by one. I want the sa privilege, and I want a pen and paper to design the tattoos I’m going to get."

He halted and looked at , before again going through whatever the docunts in front of him were about.

"How did you et The Commander? Commander Hannibal Devin?"

"You want to know?" I asked.

"Yes."

"Good, I want tattoos." I nodded again. If I have to be in here, I might as well get this done. I still want to beco a chief.

"How did you end up in the sa dungeon as The Commander?" He asked, ignoring any of my demands.

"You want to know?" I asked, with raised eyebrows, not ceasing my tapping on the table.

".....Yes."

"Good, I want tattoos." I nodded. We can do this play forever; I don’t care.

Again ignoring , the officer looked through his docunts.

"Have you witnessed how the Commander got corrupted?"

"You want to know?"

"....." He cleared his throat and ca up with the next question.

"What do you rember? When did your eyes change? Did you acquire an ability?"

"You want to know?" I smiled.

"...yes."

"Good. I want tattoos." When I finished, soone knocked on the door, bringing a piece of paper to the officer. He looked through it before putting it in front of .

Very nice, it stated that I could get paper and pen and the privilege to get visitors, and I was allowed to get body modifications.

"Very nice. First, about the breakout. When the guards change in front of the dining room, as long as there is a diversion, one could slip through and then run around the corridors with the keycard and keys—no problem. Then hiding in the food truck that cos every Thursday— and you are out."

The clerk noted everything down.

"Why weren’t you seen on the surveillance?"

"No idea." How should I know?

"Where did you get the key and keycard?"

"From a Black guy and a guy called ’Wizard.’"

"The Commander..."

"What is corruption?" I asked in return.

The officer halted and looked at the woman who had co in and still hadn’t left. She nodded, and he started to explain.

"In rare cases, we find survivors who rember their lives to be different than they actually had been. They show mory loss and don’t recognize their hos or families. Sotis they even look different, but their nas are similar or the sa, and their fingerprints and bone structure are always the sa before and after corruption."

"Bahahhaha. What the fuck? You have over four hundred people who can prove this to be bullshit. They will probably have the sa fingerprints and bone structure as your citizens have. Who ca up with this dumb theory?"

"Dr. Carell. You don’t know Dr. Carell?" The officer asked, a bit startled.

"Yeah. He is wrong. Ever heard of parallel worlds? There are people who look like us and live different lives—no one was corrupted; you are just finding people that lived in another world."

"...." The officer looked at

for a long ti.

"We will see about that."

"Did you only open portals to parallel worlds with monsters, or what is going on in your world?" I asked while tilting my head.

"Dungeons generally only have monsters or vast landscapes...seldom corrupted survivors." He was interrupted by the woman behind him coughing lightly; getting the apparent hint, he stopped speaking about it. Instead, he returned to questioning .

"Were you corrupted as well? Did it happen the sa way it happened with The Commander?"

"You want to know?"

"...Yes."

"There is no corruption; it doesn’t exist." I leaned back in my seat.

He pressed his lips together with slight frustration.

"What is your relationship with The Commander?"

"With your commander?" Never seen that guy personally.

"There is none."

Hadn’t planned to talk so much about the truth, but if they were this wrong, then they didn’t leave

with a choice.

"Where did you go after leaving the prison?"

"I don’t know." I shrugged.

The interrogation continued like this for another hour until the guy before

finally called it quits. On my way back, with my permission to get my body modified, I flipped the coin on the guard who brought . I learned about so new events.

The portals in this world started to open around twenty years ago, and if this really was the world of Henrietta3 and Kenny3, then the first one opened around the ti Henrietta3 fled this world and entered another one, probably The Deer Monster World.

Or had she been first in another world, killing other Henriettas and like this, archiving her trendous speed and power?

But if that were the case, wouldn’t Henrietta, after receiving her powers through the link, be much more powerful? Or was opening and closing portals really consuming so much strength?
