Chapter 160: 160. Little Helper

Henry’s POV

One day had passed since Kenny fell unconscious.

Seeing how much he had overexercised himself, it is to be expected that he won’t wake up for the next one or two days at least.

Should I have told him to take a break, not to conjure up the ladder every ti anew for the most part of the over four hundred tis, just to make sure that the extra frail ones wouldn’t fall?

Should I have told him to stop and take a break before descending into that hellhole to search for anyone possessed?

Should I have told him to go up by himself after his panic attack and let

bring the bodies up alone?

These questions are foolish to ask.

The real question is, would he have ever listened to ?

No, he would not.

Stubborn, stubborn, stubborn.

Kenny and the old lady he resembles, who is equally stubborn. She had refused to return to the mansion and would check on Kenny every few hours; then she would harrumph, call him a wimp, leave him alone again, yet still refuse to go back.

So damn stubborn.

I had a room full of possessed people who curiously didn’t open their eyes or behave like zombies. I presu it is because they had already been unconscious when they were possessed, so they remained in that state.

After resting, I should have initially started to wake the possessed people up, but I thought I should get myself a bit of help, especially because I had an idea regarding the child.

The fate of the kid had apparently pushed Kenny over the brink, so I would have to start with it.

I was waiting for Athena inside my new room; it was on the first floor of a not so destroyed building, where I had a good look at the hole we had dug up—the spot we had gotten the four hundred out—and at the people themselves. After being locked up underground for so long, they were now wandering around outside most of the ti, which was understandable.

There were no real conflicts; for now everyone behaved, just happy that they were outside and had food.

But I had seen a few greedy eyes wandering toward the rations we had brought. They were still beside the hole, visible to everyone, so they could all keep watch over it, and we didn’t have to assign anyone to guard them.

If soone took more than they needed, soone else would be unhappy, so there was a temporary peace.

The door opened, and Athena walked in, bringing an older man.

"This is the doctor." She introduced, and I nodded at her.

I took out the gun I got from Mrs. Howard and pointed it at him as I addressed Athena.

"Tie him up and gag him."

"What? Why?" The older man looked at

in shock.

I didn’t answer him, threatening him and motioning for Athena to take the rope and sock that I had prepared for this purpose. The skinny old man didn’t put up a fight, and even if he had, he would have been easily subdued by my little helper. After the doctor was ready, I told Athena to get

Ethan, the attorney. Because of his job, he should have good persuasion skills, so he was chosen as my little helper number three.

Ethan was calm when he found the doctor tied up and

pointing a gun at him.

"Where is Mr. Howard?" He only asked.

I smiled at him, watching as Athena tied him up as well.

We brought the two hostages into a cleaned-up room where two chairs stood. Athena bound them dutifully to the chairs before standing behind them.

On the floor lay the blond twins; they had been brought up together with the other possessed ones by a few of the ’stronger’ n, with the explanation that they were only sick and still alive.

Through that, our prestige skyrocketed when the onlookers understood that we had climbed into the hellhole just to search for other survivors.

I pulled the military knife out of my pants pocket and threw it at one of the twins before taking out the taser.

The doctor reacted strongly, trying to free himself, yet the attorney just watched.

After I tasered the girl awake, I walked to the other one and pointed my gun at her.

"Slit your throat or your sister dies." I crouched down and pressed my gun against the unconscious girl’s head.

Athena knew the ins and outs, so she didn’t make an attempt to stop . The doctor beca more frantic, while Ethan furrowed his brows.

The blond girl who had been awakened by

started to cry and beg until I pressed my gun to her sister’s eye, naturally without applying real pressure but just for show. I had been really lucky to find possessed twins. If their bond was strong enough to clutch each other’s hands, buried under corpses and even while possessed, then it would make everything so much easier for .

Finally, she took the knife, and after a few failed attempts, she obediently slit her throat. The doctor watched in horror, frozen to his seat, and Ethan finally started to try to free himself. After the girl sank back in what seed to be death, her wound healed. She cried even more heartbreakingly once she understood that she had survived.

I motioned for Athena to free the two bound n.

"You have seen it. There are seven people, including this girl here—" I pointed with my gun at the twin who was still possessed, lying on the floor as if asleep or dead. "—that are possessed by shadows. Only slitting their throats THEMSELVES will kill the shadow and allow the human to survive."

The mont the doctor was freed, he hurried to the blonde girl and looked at her neck. She was still crying rivers, shaking, and trembling heavily.

Ethan also stood up.

"You didn’t have to restrain . I know that everything is possible. The earliest when Mr. Howard showed

what he was capable of; the latest when I saw what remained from the South District." Rubbing his wrists, he seed all smart, though he was still dirty and slled.

I don’t like that guy.

Continuing to smile, I put the gun away. "Yes. Good that you know; you should now understand your task. Wake the people with the taser, then use whatever thods necessary to make them slit their throats."

I turned to the doctor.

"Doctor, co with ; I have another patient for you."

He didn’t react, still examining the girl’s healed throat, until Athena went to get him.

"By the way, if they get killed, the shadow just chooses its next victim; it HAS to be suicide, and that is by slitting their throat." I emphasized to Ethan before I opened the door for the doctor to follow .

In the room I brought him was the child placed on a mattress I found after I had made sure that Kenny had an extra comfortable one, and that he also had everything else he needed to rest.

"This child is possessed as well." I gestured to the kid, and the old man covered his mouth in anguish. After a few monts of processing what I had said and what I needed him to understand, he approached the child.

"I want this child to die." I explained.

"And after it is dead, I want you to bring it back to life."
