Chapter 143: 143. Athena

I took a seat at the table together with Henry and Chelsea.

"The shadows can attack any ti, can’t they? How to protect ourselves?" Glasses Guy asked after no one else spoke.

"If you were not present when the shadow appeared earlier, wouldn’t the shadow possess soone else?" Anti-Guy questioned as well, though much more ekly.

"Rember the radar that would show us if a monster deer is approaching? That we were present when the last shadow attacked is no coincidence; I saw it on the radar. Also, a military gift." I lied while my grandma chuckled at my words, still drinking from her little tiny cup; though this ti it seed to be sothing alcoholic. Where the hell is she getting her drinks from?

"So what if the shadows attack together?" Glasses Guy ca back to the topic from before.

"Then you will have to commit suicide by slitting your throat after we wake you up." I inford him.

"No...no...we can’t do that, no." Red Hair hugged herself and shook her head in terror.

"You will have no choice." Henry was back to tapping the table.

"Can we do anything to help?" Mrs. Devin asked, gripping a water bottle in her hand.

"Yes. When you get the notice to hide, then hide. If you co into a situation where you have to wake up soone who is possessed, then use the taser." I motioned to Henry, who pulled it out and placed the taser on the table.

"If you kill yourself, rember to slit your throat; we don’t know if suicide is enough to kill the shadow or if it has to be suicide by bleeding out. Don’t take the risk." I looked at everyone, seeing how their anxiety grew rapidly.

"If soone gets possessed, don’t do anything and first tell either Henry or . Eat and sleep well; even if it cos to the worst case, there are still two weeks before you die after being attacked by the shadow, plenty of ti for us to wake you up. Everything will turn out alright. We already killed two shadows in a day. Do the math; we can soon leave." Probably.

"You said another portal would open; is that true? Or does she have to open one?" Glasses Guy motioned to Henrietta.

"Both. Can you open a portal back ho, Henrietta?" I asked her. By default, my tone would always turn unfriendly when addressing her.

"I don’t know. I can try." She didn’t look at

or anyone else, having her head bowed and her hair covering her features.

My grandma put her cup down noisily.

"First, my grandson and his friend will eliminate the shadows, and I expect your full cooperation. Then, Miss Devin will try her best. Any more questions?" Her tone was final, as if she didn’t want to continue this little get-together.

Well, I was the sa. Though discussing things in the group was good, I wouldn’t want to do it longer than necessary.

"In a few hours, there will be the next attack. So stay in your room then." Now that Henry knows who lived in which room, we’ll just go and get Baggy Jeans when the ti cos.

"So soon..." Jeyjey mumbled.

"The sooner we are done, the better," Henry answered her, and I stood up and knocked on the table like I had seen it in the movies to officially end the discussion.

"How do you know? Can the radar show you the exact ti they attack?" Glasses Guy stared at

suspiciously and interrupted my exit.

"It can." I deadpanned, and this luckily shut him up. What do I care if they really believed ? Go and stay still if it’s others who are doing the dirty jobs anyway.

"Everything alright with you? Need

for sothing?" I asked my grandma, only to be waved away. Getting the hint, I looked at Chelsea, who smiled weakly but reassuringly at , so I left.

I went back into my room, thinking Henry would follow, but seeing he did not, I had so free ti on my hands and went for so more sleep.

Yet every ti I closed my eyes, I saw that damn hand moving as if it ca to life.

Like in a haunting horror movie, the grueso scenes that were unforgettable always eventually ca back to that hand, to the being that was awakened or that had been awake all along.

Covering my eyes with my arm, I thought I should go to Chelsea, as she should be as tornted as I was, but as if I associated the terror we both had seen with her, I didn’t want to be close to her right now.

Fifteen shadows left. I would have to kill myself seven tis if Henry would do it eight tis. I don’t want to do it. I really fucking don’t want to.

Until now, I would have thought of myself as soone relatively brave; yet apparently that was not the case. I neither want to review more mories nor kill myself, and the last thing I want is to see the owner of that gigantic hand.

About half an hour later, with the sa images looping in my mind, I didn’t want to stay by myself anymore. I stood up and went to look for my grandma or Henry. My grandma wasn’t in her room, so I looked in the dining room.

When I found it empty as well, a deep chill struck —the conviction that I was all alone again and had never woken up from the illusion the shadow showed

in the first place seized .

After the loneliness and fear gradually beca overwhelming, I heard sounds from another room, adjoining the dining room.

Moans—the deep, animalistic breathing of a man.

Initially, I would have turned around and let whoever wanted to have fun do his thing, but I recognized the man’s voice as Henry’s.

Raising my brows, I stepped over the debris outside the dining room as silently as possible and found a door ajar, enough for

to look inside.

If I am invited like this, then please don’t mind .

I saw the back of the green-eyed girl as she stood there in front of Henry, and seeing her from behind, I suddenly rembered why she had beco familiar since a while ago.

This girl should be Athena, the girl that would in a few years kiss the chief——inside a skyscraper only to be first watched and then interrupted by Henry, who fabricated an excuse to get her away when he couldn’t take it anymore.

Our positions had now reversed; it was

who watched, and it was Henry’s tall body that stood in front of the sa girl, gripping her waist with his hands.

From what I could see, the girl was moving her hand in explicit motions in the area of his crotch while Henry, slumped over, rested his head on her shoulder, moaning just as explicitly.
