Kevin’s eyes darkened slightly as he looked at Jessie, his gaze carrying a hint of scrutiny.
‘Is this woman... testing ?’
He chuckled. "What are you dreaming about? If I were a mber of the Harper family, would I still have to do this kind of manual labor?"
Hearing this, Jessie sighed in relief and patted her chest. "Oh, that’s good to know."
Her reaction confused Kevin. Most people would hope to climb up the social ladder, so why was she relieved?
Jessie pursed her lips and decided not to argue with him.
"Alright, I forgive you. What ti do you plan to get up tomorrow? If we need to go shopping, we need to go early. Should I wake you up?"
"You don’t have to. Just tell the ti, and I’ll get up on my own."
"How about 7:30?"
"Okay."
During this ti together, Jessie noticed that although Kevin always used a cold tone, he at least treated her with so respect.
The conversation between the two ca to an abrupt end, and the atmosphere turned awkward. Jessie couldn’t help but sigh, realizing that this was indeed a marriage without emotions. It was even difficult to exchange a few words.
Yawning, she glanced at the empty kitchen. "Mr. Harper, let’s buy a microwave oven tomorrow. That way, we can heat up food before we eat it, and we can also eat so fast food."
"Fast food?" Kevin frowned, having no idea what she was talking about.
Thinking he didn’t hear her clearly, Jessie repeated, "Yes, like frozen fried chicken."
The mont he heard the word ‘fried’, Kevin’s mind quickly flashed with one thing—unhealthy.
He had never touched that kind of food from childhood to adulthood, let alone eaten it. There were dedicated chefs and nutritionists at ho to prepare him healthy als.
"It’s not very healthy; you should avoid eating it in the future."
This was Kevin’s well-intentioned reminder.
Jessie found it strange and asked, puzzled. "You’ve never had it? With your kind of work, there are probably a lot of tis when you’re in a rush and have to rely on fast food, no?"
He was surprised, realizing he might have made a slip-up. He calmly explained, "Of course I’ve had it. I just don’t find it healthy, so I don’t eat it anymore. And our boss values our well-being, so he always gives us enough ti for lunch."
She nodded in slight surprise. "I didn’t expect your boss to be so considerate."
She had thought that capitalists nowadays only thought about exploiting their employees every day.
But on second thought, despite being a repairman, Kevin was able to accompany his boss to a party. This was enough to show he had a high status among his coworkers and was also well-liked by his boss.
Jessie didn’t inquire further and said goodbye before entering her room.
Kevin glanced at her room door and sighed, glad he hadn’t revealed too much.
He also went to his room. Although they were already married, they respected each other. Most importantly, Jessie had never asked him to fulfill his marital duties, which pleased him.
After so thought, he called his bodyguard. As Kevin’s bodyguard, he had to be on duty 24 hours a day.
When the bodyguard received Kevin’s call, he imdiately picked up. It was late at night, so he thought sothing had happened to Kevin.
But as soon as the call connected, Kevin’s voice ca through, “Help buy a microwave oven tomorrow. Get one that is not too expensive but has better quality."
The bodyguard was surprised. Was he being called in the middle of the night just to buy a microwave oven? Wasn’t that a waste of his talent?
However, Kevin didn’t say anything else and hung up the phone.
