Yvonne saw Silas and Clara walking in together, surprise flashing in her eyes.

"Clara’s here." Yvonne smiled and looked at Silas, saying, "President Sheffield is here too, thank you for making a special trip to see ."

In Yvonne’s eyes, she only knew Silas as the one who helped her contact the hospital to find an expert and register, unaware that her daughter had already married Silas or that the dical expenses were covered by him.

Clara had told her mom that the dical expenses were a loan from the Sheffield Family, not daring to reveal the truth.

If her mom knew she traded her marriage for the dical expenses, she would definitely object to the marriage and feel guilty, so Clara lied to her mom.

In Yvonne’s eyes, since the Sheffield Family lent them money, they owe them, so she was very polite and courteous to Silas.

Silas said gently, "Auntie, just call Silas."

Yvonne laughed, "Okay, Silas, thank you for taking the ti to visit today. I heard from Clara that you helped her with the hospital and doctors and even lent us money. You’ve been a great help."

Silas smiled slightly, "It’s no trouble."

Clara placed the thermal bucket of nutritional als on the table, walked to the bedside, "Mom, how have you been feeling lately?"

Yvonne patted her daughter’s hand, "Mom’s doing well. The doctors and nurses here are very good, and there’s a caregiver to help with my als and daily life. But Clara, how have you been? Are you eating well?"

Clara smiled, "Mom, don’t worry about . I’m all grown up now. I can definitely take care of myself."

"That’s good."

Clara said, "The doctor says you can have the surgery at the beginning of next month. Your condition is stable, and the chemotherapy has been effective. If you feel any discomfort, be sure to inform the doctors and nurses promptly."

Yvonne: "I will."

"I made you lunch." Clara opened the thermal bucket.

Yvonne asked, "Clara, has school started? Aren’t you going back?"

Clara served her mother food, speaking gently and quietly, "Yes, it has started, but I don’t need to go back for a while. I just need to return for my thesis defense."

"No classes to attend?"

"No, all classes are over. Everyone is busy job hunting this sester."

Talking about her daughter’s matters, Yvonne asked a few more questions, "Are you planning to find a job in Veridian or return to Crestwood?"

"Veridian." Clara had considered this; her mom is currently in Veridian, making it convenient to visit her.

"Staying in Veridian is good; you’ll be close to mom." Yvonne said, but then frowned, "However, the cost of living in Veridian is high. It might be taxing to afford rent."

Yvonne knew that Clara had been staying with the Sheffields, implying she couldn’t stay forever and should move out after finding a job.

Of course, Clara understood what her mom ant.

She hadn’t told her mom that she was already married to Silas.

Clara was silent for a mont, "It’s okay, I’ll find a cheaper place."

Yvonne asked again, "When do you plan to start job hunting?"

"In the next few days."

"Alright."

Leaving the hospital, Silas suddenly suggested, "Would you like to work for the Sheffield Group?"

"I... Can I?" Clara looked down, "Sheffield Group likely has high educational requirents, right? I only have a bachelor’s degree."

Given her academic performance, Clara could have secured a spot in the graduate program, but Isaac coaxed her into marrying him right after graduation, making her give up the opportunity.

After discovering Isaac’s true nature, it was too late to apply for postgraduate exams.

Silas replied, "It’s fine. You’re a Crestwood U graduate; our company hires Crestwood U undergraduates."

Crestwood U is a top dostic 985 university, second only to Veridian University and Capital University. Crestwood U graduates are often in demand.

Clara pondered, feeling hesitant.

She had already troubled Silas considerably; bothering him about work felt inappropriate.

Seeming to read her thoughts, Silas said, "You can submit your resu and go through the interview process, so it’s not bothering . I believe your capabilities will get you through."

Clara felt tempted.

The Sheffield Group is not only renowned dostically but is also a Fortune Global 500 company, highly sought after by graduates.

Ignoring the Sheffield connection, the company itself was her top choice.

After thinking for a mont, Clara said, "Okay, I’ll give it a try."

Silas also ntioned, "The company is near ho, so you don’t have to move out."

Clara bit her lip and replied, "Okay."

Hearing her response, Silas’s lips curved slightly as he started the car.

In the following days, Clara balanced writing her thesis and preparing her resu.

That afternoon, Clara sent Silas an electronic version of her resu and went to his study to find him.

Clara knocked, "Silas, are you there? Can you help review my resu and suggest any needed changes?"

Although the Veridian branch is just a subsidiary of the Sheffield Group, the competition to get hired is fierce.

Clara intended to rely on her strengths to get into the Sheffield Group, so her resu had to be impeccable to pass the initial screening.

Silas opened the door while on a phone call.

He motioned for her to co in.

Seeing him on the phone, Clara quietly entered.

The study’s floor was covered with a soft, dense carpet, making each step silent.

Silas gestured for her to make herself comfortable.

The study had a simple yet grand décor, featuring dark wood and sleek tal accents, exuding a subtle luxury and stability.

As she entered, Clara was imdiately struck by the wall of books, lined up densely.

The collection was vast, ranging from classical literature to modern business managent, history to science and technology, showcasing the owner’s broad knowledge and diverse interests.

Clara found a book that intrigued her and began reading.

Sunshine from the floor-to-ceiling windows bathed her in a gentle golden light.

Sitting on a chair engaged in her book, Clara exuded a poised, serene, intellectual beauty.

Throughout his call, Silas’s gaze lingered on her.

Clara was so absorbed in her reading that she didn’t notice Silas had ended his call.

When she finished two Chapters, Clara looked up to find Silas staring at her intently.

"Finished with your call?"

"Yes." Silas’s eyes were warm and steady, "Do you like history?"

"Yes, I’ve liked it since middle school."

Silas asked, "Why didn’t you pursue humanities?"

Clara closed the book in her hand, speaking softly, "Because science students have more options in college, better employnt prospects, and typically higher salaries."

During her high school years, the school offered separate tracks for humanities and sciences. Humanities included history, geography, and politics, while science included physics, chemistry, and biology.

Although she loved history, she was also strong in science and had heard from seniors that science graduates had better job opportunities, so she chose the science track.

Her family wasn’t well-off, relying solely on her mother. She wanted a well-paying job after graduation to help out, easing her mother’s burden.

Silas nodded, "I’ve looked at your resu; there are a few changes needed."

"Okay." Clara stood and walked over.

Silas sat in his chair behind the desk, and Clara leaned in to view the computer screen.

Her resu was displayed on the screen.

Clara glanced at it, and suddenly, Silas tugged her wrist.

Unprepared, Clara fell onto Silas’s lap.

The pleasant woody scent of his cologne filled her senses, her heartbeat quickened, and her cheeks flushed.

She sat sideways on Silas’s lap, his arms around her, looking calm and collected as if it were the most natural position.

He pointed to the computer screen, his voice deep and magnetic, "This part needs revision."
