Clara Sterling’s eyes suddenly widened, her heart clenching tightly.

Silas Sheffield actually had such dangerous thoughts.

As calm and rational as he was, even he had monts of losing his mind.

At this mont, Clara felt the man’s intense love.

She hugged Silas back, burying her head deeply into his chest, feeling both touched and sad.

She was touched that there was a man in this world who loved her so unreservedly, willing to even give up his life for her.

This heavy love deeply moved her.

But she was sad because she didn’t want Silas to do sothing foolish for her.

Just thinking that Silas had such foolish thoughts made her heartache uncontrollably.

"Promise , no matter what happens in the future, don’t do anything foolish, okay?" Clara buried her face in Silas’s chest, speaking very softly.

The man remained silent.

If she were gone, what would he live for?

He couldn’t give her an answer.

"Say sothing." Clara’s tone was urgent, even with a trace of a sob, "Promise you will live well, okay? Never think of ending your life, okay?"

"Say sothing." Clara’s tears fell uncontrollably as she pounded the man with her fist, her voice trembling, "Promise !"

After a long ti, she finally heard Silas say hoarsely, "As long as you’re okay, I can be okay."

...

That morning, after Clara finished breakfast, she wanted to go out for so fresh air.

She had been recovering well these past few days and could be discharged in two days.

The weather today was great, with bright but not glaring morning sunshine and a light floral scent carried by the breeze.

Silas had stayed by her side almost every mont these last few days.

Silas supported Clara as they walked out of the elevator to the hospital’s small garden.

The roses and jasmines in the garden were in full bloom, the gentle breeze bringing the scent of flowers.

The doctor recomnded that she sunbathe more, saying it would help with her recovery.

Silas accompanied Clara for a while, then received a call on his phone.

Seeing the caller ID, he didn’t imdiately pick up.

"I need to take a call," Silas said to Clara.

"Okay."

Usually, Silas wouldn’t avoid her when taking calls, but this ti he uncharacteristically said he needed to step away to answer.

Clara didn’t think much of it; she just assud it might be so Sheffield business secrets that weren’t appropriate for her to hear.

Silas didn’t go too far, standing within Clara’s line of sight.

Ensuring she couldn’t hear the contents of his conversation, Silas finally answered the call.

"President Sheffield, our people reported that Harvey Tate has successfully fallen into the trap."

"Hmm, don’t show rcy to the other illegitimate children of Thomas Tate either," Silas’s voice was cold.

"And about Thea Tate, check her recent movents, keep a close eye on her. If the car accident wasn’t Thomas Tate’s doing, it most likely has sothing to do with her," Silas ordered coldly.

"Understood, President Sheffield."

anwhile, Clara sat on a wooden bench in the garden, sunbathing, her mind blank.

"Clara?"

Clara heard soone calling her and looked in the direction of the voice.

The man looked sowhat familiar, but she couldn’t imdiately recall where she had seen him before, "And you are?"

"I’m Ian Kane."

The man, with chiseled features, an Arican-style crew cut, wore a simple white short-sleeved shirt and black casual pants, smiling as he looked at Clara.

"We t at Veridian Airport when I went to pick up Julian Hawthorne."

With this ntion, Clara rembered.

This man was Julian’s friend, and they had t once.

"Hello, Mr. Kane." Clara greeted politely, keeping a distance.

Seeing Clara in patient clothes, with the words "Inpatient Departnt" written on the chest, Ian couldn’t help but ask, "Are you ill?"

He was asking on behalf of Julian.

Even though Ian knew Clara was married, he could tell that Julian still had feelings for her.

Ian knew Julian’s character very well.

He knew Julian wouldn’t do sothing as unethical as stealing soone else’s partner or beco a shadowy affair.

Julian’s feelings for Clara were initiated by affection and restrained by propriety, keeping a proper distance without overstepping boundaries.

But even as regular friends, it’s normal to express concern and visit when soone is hospitalized, right?

Clara smiled, "It’s nothing serious, just so issues a while back. I’m much better now and will be discharged in a couple of days."

She kept it vague, not ntioning her car accident.

After all, Ian was Julian’s friend, and she didn’t want Julian to know she had been in a car accident so ti ago.

Seeing Clara didn’t want to elaborate, Ian didn’t ask further.

He nodded and said, "Wish you a speedy recovery," and then left.

When Silas finished his call and returned, he asked casually, "Who was that person just now?"

Clara answered truthfully, "Julian Hawthorne’s friend. When I returned from a business trip to Veridian, he ca to pick up at the airport where I’d seen him once."

"Hmm." Silas didn’t ask further.

Though Clara hadn’t ntioned that she was hospitalized due to a car accident, that car accident had gained a lot of attention in Crestwood so ti ago.

Ian had co to Crestwood Central Hospital to visit a sick elder in his family.

The Kane Family wasn’t an ordinary family; his elder held an official position of considerable rank in Crestwood.

Ian used his connections to find out about Clara’s car accident and imdiately called Julian.

...

Julian received Ian’s call just after finishing a eting.

"Hello?"

Ian: "Do you know Clara got into a car accident?"

Julian’s deanor stiffened, "When?"

After asking, news of the Crestwood car accident flashed through his mind from a few days earlier.

Sure enough, the next second Ian said, "It was that chain car accident in Crestwood a few days ago. I just found out. I heard she was seriously injured, in a coma for ten days before waking up. She’s still hospitalized in Crestwood Central Hospital and will be discharged in a couple of days. Do you want to visit her?"

Hearing this, Julian felt a surge of terror, a chill running down his spine.

In that car accident, Clara turned out to be one of the victims.

She was in a coma for ten days, and he knew nothing!

"I understand, thank you." Julian hung up the phone and imdiately booked a flight to Crestwood.

...

"That bitch, how could she have such a big life? Why isn’t she dead yet?" Thea Tate stomped her foot in anger after learning Clara had awakened.

"Useless! Absolutely useless! Couldn’t even handle such a small task, deserved to die!" Thea fud, cursing the driver in self-talk.

This car accident, she had planned ticulously, thinking it was foolproof.

But unexpectedly, Clara, that wretched woman, had such a big life and actually woke up!

Couldn’t a car kill you, huh?

Looks like next ti, I’ll have to arrange for a big truck.

A sinister smile curled on Thea’s lips.

Clara, I don’t believe you can be this lucky every ti.

...

In the days since Clara woke up, Silas accompanied her every day.

Joanne Quincy and Zeke Sheffield had originally planned to return to Country S the evening after her graduation ceremony.

The couple had packed their luggage and were ready to head to the airport.

Before departing, they suddenly received a call saying Clara had been in a car accident and was in critical care at the hospital.

Joanne and Zeke, unable to go to the airport, hurried to the hospital.

After Clara woke up, they remained unconvinced about her condition and stayed in Crestwood for another week.

Only after Clara stabilized and was about to be discharged, did they finally set off back to Country S.

That afternoon, Julian knocked on the ward’s door.
