A few people were chatting when the phone call from the Sheffield Family’s grandmother ca.

Silas Sheffield picked up the phone, "Hello, Grandma."

"You finally answered the phone. What have you been doing these past few days? I’ve called you so many tis and your phone was off."

Silas replied calmly, "I went to Arctica for a eting and discussed a project with a partner. I just got back to Veridian last night."

The business eting in Arctica was very important. It lasted two days, each session lasting four to five hours, during which Silas’s phone was turned off.

After the eting and discussing the project, he rushed back on a flight, and his phone remained off for over ten hours.

In fact, a few days ago, he saw his grandmother’s missed call as soon as he landed in Morena.

After seeing the hot topics online, he clarified the matter imdiately and only called Clara back.

Silas knew what his grandmother’s call was about—it’s nothing but criticizing Clara and pressuring him to divorce.

He didn’t have the ti to listen to her nagging, so he simply didn’t return the call.

Until he finished his business trip and returned to Veridian, he still hadn’t had ti to call his grandmother back.

He had planned to find so ti today to call her back, but then her call ca through.

Just as expected, Susan Saxon started nagging again, "In the days you were gone, your wife and that man Julian Hawthorne’s rumors have been spreading everywhere. I told you this woman is not settled, now you see? You two should divorce quickly, so I won’t be troubled by her."

Silas seed sowhat helpless, "Grandma, I can’t possibly divorce. Don’t believe those online rumors. I know exactly what kind of person Clara is."

Although his voice wasn’t loud, everyone there could hear him clearly.

Kevin Kensington and Ethan Fuller paused with their chopsticks, simultaneously turning their gaze towards Clara Sterling sitting across from them.

Clara’s eyes were downcast, her expression calm, as if she was used to this.

But no one knew that her outward indifference was just a facade.

Clara held a teacup with her right hand, drinking calmly, but her left hand beneath the table was clenched uneasily, her nails pressing into her palm, her heart racing.

Just as expected, Silas’s grandmother was urging him to divorce again.

On the day the incident occurred, she had already called to criticize her thoroughly.

Now that Silas was back, his grandmother’s phone call to urge a divorce didn’t co as a surprise.

But even though she expected it, Clara couldn’t maintain inner peace.

Looking at the current stance, even on the occasion of the grandmother’s 80th birthday where she presented a valuable calligraphy and embroidery that she had prepared ticulously, it’s difficult to make the grandmother like her.

Silas was caught between her and his grandmother, feeling torn, and she felt bad about it too.

She didn’t want the man she loved to be troubled.

But it was difficult to change the grandmother’s view of her when she disliked her so much.

Noticing Clara’s low spirits beside him, Silas reached out and held onto her left hand under the table.

He held the phone with one hand while holding Clara’s hand with the other.

Silas’s large hand enveloped Clara’s small fist, gently rubbing the back of her hand with his thumb, reassuring her emotions.

Clara’s mood gradually stabilized, and she turned her head to look at his face, a faint smile spreading across her lips.

Silas sensed her gaze, glanced sideways, his eyes gentle.

Kevin Kensington nudged Ethan Fuller with his elbow, turned his head with a smile, and whispered, "Look at them, exchanging loving glances, showing affection in public."

Ethan glanced over, "What, feeling envious? If you are, then go get married."

"Stop it, why are you rushing like my mom does?"

Kevin’s smile vanished instantly, furrowing his brows with an exasperated look, "I get a headache every ti I hear the word marriage now."

Ethan chuckled, "You can’t avoid it. What cos, always cos. Speaking of which, didn’t you get a girlfriend? When will you bring her out to et us?"

"We’ll see."

Kevin recently started dating.

The girlfriend wasn’t so wealthy heiress, just an ordinary girl, working as a teacher at a private middle school.

The girl was quite beautiful, a petite and delicate type, with a personality he liked—gentle, sensible, and obedient, unlike any woman he had interacted with before.

He felt very comfortable interacting with her.

But their family background was vastly different, making a future unlikely.

Therefore, he hadn’t planned to introduce her to his friends.

...

Susan Saxon finished her call with Silas, feeling quite aggrieved.

Just then, Thea Tate called to ask after her, and the grandmother vented her frustrations to Thea.

"Silas says he absolutely refuses to divorce. Is he trying to drive crazy?"

Thea gently coaxed, "Grandma, Silas is just montarily bewitched. Don’t get angry with him."

"I saw the statent he made online, claiming Clara had reported eting with that Julian Hawthorne. When I called Clara, she didn’t ntion anything about reporting it. Silas will say anything to protect her."

Thea, hearing this, secretly gnashed her teeth in anger, a cold gleam in her eyes.

Yet, she feigned understanding, speaking softly, "Grandma, Silas doesn’t fully understand Clara yet. Once they spend more ti together and he realizes what kind of person Clara is, he will wake up."

"He doesn’t listen to a word I say now. I’m just hoping he wakes up soon and divorces Clara." Susan sighed, "Forget it. He’s tired from the business trip. I won’t nag him about it for the next few days."

"Yes, Grandma. Silas has to stay in Arctica for a week this ti. The project there is very important."

"A week?" Susan paused, "When did he leave?"

Thea replied, "On the 2nd, the day Clara and Julian Hawthorne’s rumors were trending."

"That’s not right; Silas just told he ca back to Veridian last night. Counting the days, it hasn’t been a week."

Thea was stunned, "What? You say Silas is already back?"

"Yes, I just called him, and he said he returned to Veridian last night."

Thea furrowed her brows, muttering, "Silas was supposed to be on a business trip for a week. Why did he return so quickly? Was it to deal with Clara’s matters?"

At this, Thea’s heart burned with jealousy.

Why does that witch Clara deserve so much of Silas’s care!

Is he willing to forgo the company’s important project for her?

Thea restrained her anger, continuing in a gentle tone with Susan, "But Grandma, the project in Arctica is very important. Silas originally planned five days to discuss the project, plus two days of etings, making a week’s business trip. Now, he returned early for Clara, so that project in Arctica must be..."

She didn’t finish her sentence, subtly stopping.

Even without saying more, Susan understood.

Silas abandoned the project to clean up Clara’s ss.

This news upset Susan so much that she lost her appetite for lunch.
