Flash Marriage With Mr. Sheffield: Go Away, Cheap Man! Chapter 133: Since When Did Her Brother Get So Clingy?
Clara Sterling completed her work transition and officially resigned from the Sheffield Branch.
In the days leading up to the anniversary celebration, she stayed ho reading.
The books Warren Cheney gave her were written by top scientists in the field, very profound and obscure.
Clara Sterling finished two books and marked a few places she didn’t understand.
The day before the anniversary, Silas Sheffield took Clara Sterling to Warren Cheney’s house.
"President Sheffield, Mrs. Sheffield, you’re here, please co in." The housekeeper, Mrs. Lowell, greeted them with a smile.
Clara Sterling wrapped her arm around Silas Sheffield’s as they entered the house.
Clara Sterling greeted Warren Cheney and Mrs. Cheney with a warm smile, "Mr. Cheney, Mrs. Cheney."
"President Sheffield, Mrs. Sheffield," Warren Cheney responded.
Clara Sterling smiled and said, "Mr. Cheney, just call Sterling or Clara, no need to be so formal."
"Yeah, you are Clara’s ntor now, an elder, just call us by our nas," Silas Sheffield also said.
"Alright," Warren Cheney smiled. "Clara, how did you find the books I gave you last ti? Did you gain anything?"
"You guys chat, I’ll go check if Mrs. Lowell has finished cooking," Mrs. Cheney said with a smile and headed to the kitchen.
Clara Sterling replied, "You gave four books last ti, I finished two. I’ve marked a few places I don’t quite understand, and I’ve brought the books today hoping you could help clarify them."
"Sure."
Clara Sterling took out the books and opened them, "Mr. Cheney, I don’t quite understand this part, could you take a look..."
Clara Sterling and Warren Cheney started discussing academic theories.
Silas Sheffield didn’t interrupt, he got up and went to the backyard garden.
His assistant, Zachary Lynch, called to report on work.
Silas Sheffield stood in the garden, talking on the phone.
Clara Sterling and Warren Cheney discussed for about twenty minutes before Mrs. Cheney ca over with a smile, "Lunch is ready, let’s eat first and continue the discussion in the afternoon."
The scientific works were profound and obscure; the parts Clara Sterling didn’t understand couldn’t be explained quickly. Warren Cheney said, "Let’s eat first."
"Okay, Mr. Cheney." Clara Sterling closed the book and got up to head to the dining room, "Here I co, Mrs. Cheney."
When Clara Sterling reached the dining room and saw Silas Sheffield wasn’t there, she said to Mrs. Cheney, "Mrs. Cheney, I’ll go get Silas."
"Sure, go ahead, Silas is in the backyard garden on a call."
"Alright."
Clara Sterling walked to the backyard garden, where Silas Sheffield was still on the phone.
"It’s ti for lunch," Clara Sterling said softly.
"Let’s wrap it up for now, hanging up," Silas Sheffield ended the call.
"How was your session with Mr. Cheney?" Silas Sheffield asked.
"Mr. Cheney truly deserves his reputation as a top scientist and academic authority; he explained complex theories effortlessly, and I gained a lot from it."
"It shows you’re quite capable, too. Not everyone can grasp those academic theories after Mr. Cheney explains them."
Clara Sterling shook her head, "Oh, I’m just an undergraduate; I’m far behind the doctoral students he previously taught. You’re seeing through rose-colored glasses."
Silas Sheffield spoke earnestly, "Clara, you’re excellent, don’t undervalue yourself."
Clara Sterling smiled, linking her arm with Silas Sheffield’s, "Alright, let’s go eat."
At the dining table, Mrs. Cheney smiled warmly.
"Clara, I heard from Silas that you love spicy food. I specially prepared this spicy boiled beef and duck blood, try it."
"Thank you, Mrs. Cheney, you’re so thoughtful," Clara Sterling smiled and picked up a piece of spicy boiled beef.
They enjoyed a pleasant al together.
Clara Sterling proactively helped to clear the dishes.
The housekeeper, Mrs. Lowell, said, "Mrs. Sheffield, you’re a guest, you shouldn’t be doing this, I’ll take care of it."
Mrs. Cheney also chuckled, "Yes, Clara, Mrs. Lowell is right. You still need to ask your ntor questions, go on ahead."
At this mont, Warren Cheney cheerfully said, "Clara is bright, she understands quickly. Even with just an undergraduate degree, she responds swiftly and could easily pursue a PhD. She’s no less capable than the doctoral students I used to teach."
Silas Sheffield looked at Clara Sterling, smiling.
His gaze seed to say: See, even Mr. Cheney praises you, I told you so—you’re indeed smart, and it’s not just my bias.
Clara Sterling smiled gently, "Mr. Cheney, you’re too kind."
After the al, Clara Sterling continued her conversation with Warren Cheney. She clarified all her doubts and brought several more books back.
After leaving Mr. Cheney’s house, Silas Sheffield and Clara Sterling went to the airport.
Tomorrow’s the company anniversary celebration, as part of the Sheffield Family and a shareholder of Sheffield Group, Sophie Sheffield would be attending in Veridian.
A few days ago, Sophie Sheffield called Clara Sterling to say she was coming for the anniversary celebration in Veridian.
She’d be landing in Veridian at 6:30 in the evening today.
Clara Sterling and Silas Sheffield went to pick her up.
The last ti the two friends t was a month ago when Clara Sterling attended a class reunion in Crestwood.
Over the month, they occasionally called and video-chatted but hadn’t seen each other.
This ti Sophie Sheffield was visiting Veridian, and Clara Sterling was thrilled.
At the airport exit.
Clara Sterling waved to Sophie Sheffield, "Sophie."
Sophie Sheffield spotted her, a big smile lighting up her face, and she rushed over to give Clara Sterling a big hug.
"Clara, darling, I’ve missed you to death!"
Clara Sterling hugged her back, "I’ve missed you too."
"You look thinner," Sophie Sheffield let go of Clara Sterling and looked her over, "You do look really slim."
"Brother, how have you been taking care of Clara?" Sophie Sheffield cast a reproachful look at Silas Sheffield.
Clara Sterling laughed, "I’ve been eating well lately."
"Really? But I think you’ve gotten thinner."
Clara Sterling smiled and changed the subject, "Alright, you must be hungry, let’s go eat, I’ve booked a restaurant for us."
...
In the evening, back at Prospect Hill Villa, Sophie Sheffield wanted to chat with Clara Sterling after taking a bath.
She knocked on the door, but there was no response inside.
"Clara, are you in there? I ca to chat with you."
"I’m here," Clara Sterling walked out from Silas Sheffield’s room.
Sophie Sheffield turned, "Are you and my brother..."
"Are you two sharing a room?" Sophie Sheffield smirked, "Wow, are you planning to have a baby soon? Am I going to be an aunt?"
Clara Sterling chuckled.
She’s still young and hasn’t planned on having kids yet.
She and Silas Sheffield always took precautions.
"What are you thinking? We’re not ready to have kids."
"True, you’re still young."
Saying this, Sophie Sheffield held Clara Sterling’s hand, "We haven’t seen each other for a while, let’s chat tonight."
"She’s sleeping with tonight," Silas Sheffield walked out of the room, wearing a bathrobe, having just taken a shower.
Sophie Sheffield: "Don’t worry, I won’t steal your wife, I’m just borrowing Clara for a chat, one or two hours."
Clara Sterling smiled, "It’s okay, I can sleep with you tonight."
With Clara Sterling’s words, Sophie Sheffield grinned, "Hear that? My Clara still loves the most."
Silas Sheffield remained silent, his gaze fixed on Clara Sterling.
Apparently voicing a silent protest.
Sophie Sheffield couldn’t help but giggle.
When did her brother beco so clingy?
Is this still her brother who was aloof, restrained, and distant from won?
