"Why did you suddenly change your number?"

"I didn’t change it. I’ve just had a lot more contact with people in Country F recently, so it’s more economical to use a local number here," Qin Jinchuan said, offering a casual excuse.

Xiao Linye raised an eyebrow. "Are you really bothered by such trivial expenses?"

"Of course, I am," Qin Jinchuan replied, as if it were a matter of course.

Since he put it that way, Xiao Linye didn’t press further and simply asked in a calm tone, "When are you coming back?"

"Probably in about half a month. The project here is quite substantial."

"It’s rare for you to be so focused on business these days."

Just a short while ago, he was constantly running to my office, Xiao Linye mused. I almost thought he didn’t care about the Qin Family’s affairs at all.

Qin Jinchuan cut straight to the chase. "Enough with the sarcasm. Ji Nan told you were looking for . What’s up?"

Xiao Linye paused, flicking the ash from his cigarette before saying, "Yuning has left Upper City. She’s already in Turanxi."

"Really? Is the Xiao Family that ruthless? She’s just a vulnerable woman. Did you have to push her that far?" Qin Jinchuan feigned ignorance.

Hearing this, Xiao Linye’s headache intensified. "It’s a long story. Keep an eye on her situation for during this ti."

He hadn’t expected his own father to do such a thing. Even though he and Ye Yuning were already divorced, his father still wanted to completely destroy her. Thinking of his father’s recent actions, an even deeper, uncontrollable gloom settled in Xiao Linye’s eyes.

Qin Jinchuan asked, "The child she’s carrying—are you absolutely sure it isn’t yours?"

"Impossible," Xiao Linye stated unequivocally.

Hearing this, Qin Jinchuan was stunned for a mont, then said with slightly uneven breath, "Alright, alright. If you say it’s not, then it’s not."

At that mont, whether out of selfishness or so other reason, Qin Jinchuan didn’t try to persuade him.

Xiao Linye said, "Hanging up now."

Having heard from Qin Jinchuan, Xiao Linye’s doubts were dispelled, and he hung up imdiately.

「anwhile, on Qin Jinchuan’s end.」

He was currently outside Ye Yuning’s hospital room. He gazed at Ye Yuning inside, his eyes lingering on her pale face.

Suddenly, he thought that Ye Yuning truly had a difficult life.

As these thoughts crossed his mind, he found himself standing by her bed before he knew it.

Ye Yuning, seeing him staring so intently at her, frowned. "Why are you looking at like that?"

"You wanted to build a good life with him, didn’t you?" Qin Jinchuan asked.

"What?" This abrupt question left Ye Yuning sowhat baffled.

Qin Jinchuan continued, "Even when you didn’t know his identity, you wanted to spend your life with him, right?"

"You..." Ye Yuning began. Isn’t that obvious? If Xiao Linye hadn’t shown his good side back then, would she have held on to that marriage for so long? If Xiao Linye had truly been unsuitable, she would have divorced him imdiately after resolving the Qin Family’s troubles.

He was nice to her... His kindness during that period had genuinely made Ye Yuning consider spending her entire life with him.

"Well?" Qin Jinchuan prompted.

"Yes, I did want to spend my lifeti with him!" Ye Yuning looked at him, then added, "But not anymore."

Tang Xi once said that when a couple is deeply in love, they wish to be together for all eternity. But once things turn sour, both parties can beco so hysterical, transforming into soone completely unrecognizable. She hadn’t quite understood that kind of relationship and interaction before. Not until her complete fallout with Xiao Linye did she comprehend the pain Tang Xi had endured.

He wasn’t like Jiang Bo! But his lack of protest, his refusal to fight for them, still left her feeling unsettled to this very day.

He didn’t make a fuss... He was so quiet, making it impossible to know what he was truly thinking. Later, when he said it was over, he was so resolute. That resoluteness made Ye Yuning never want to envision a future with him again.

So, it turned out that feelings didn’t just fade; they could be completely eroded.

Qin Jinchuan frowned at her deanor. "He’s getting married. Are you truly not going back?"

"Go back for what? To offer blessings?" Ye Yuning’s tone grew heavy.

She wasn’t that magnanimous. All she wanted now was to never cross paths with Xiao Linye again, not to generously accept all his changes.

"Alright, that’s enough. I don’t want to talk about this anymore. It’s bad luck!" she blurted out, a phrase she often used.

Qin Jinchuan’s eyes widened. "What did you say?"

Bad luck? Was she talking about Xiao Linye? Was she in her right mind? Calling Xiao Linye bad luck? It was well known that in Upper City and even Country M, countless won would kill for a chance to be with Xiao Linye. Yet here she was, calling Xiao Linye bad luck. If his legion of admirers heard this, it would surely cause big trouble.

"Why can’t I? After everything that’s happened, isn’t he bad luck for ?" Ye Yuning retorted defiantly.

Qin Jinchuan nodded. "Alright, alright. If you say he’s bad luck, then he’s bad luck. As long as you’re happy."

She’s making progress... Being able to talk about Xiao Linye without crying is a huge step forward.

Ye Yuning snorted coldly and said no more.

What she didn’t realize was that Qin Jinchuan was deliberately bringing up Xiao Linye’s impending marriage and asking about her intentions. He was making her confront the issue repeatedly, so she wouldn’t even have a chance to regret it later.
