Gui Xingli frowned and didn’t respond, though it was clear from her tense breath that she was holding sothing back.
Ye Yuning gazed out the window, silent. Everything about Upper City now felt suffocating, oppressive. Before, because things had never been good, she hadn’t cared. But after possessing sothing, and considering certain people and events deeply important, her heart had beco unsettled.
「...」
Ye Yuning couldn’t return to her Xiangti now. Gui Xingli took her directly to a hotel owned by Simon, arranging for the presidential suite and assigning two bodyguards to watch over her. Although she had already swapped Old Master Xiao’s items, he was, after all, a man of ans. They had to guard against him preparing a countermove.
"I’ll arrange for you to leave here as soon as possible," Gui Xingli said to Ye Yuning.
"Is it that urgent?" Ye Yuning asked. Although she was psychologically prepared to leave and had even asked Chen Wei to make arrangents on her end, hearing Gui Xingli say this now made her suddenly realize that Upper City truly had no place for her. Choosing to leave on her own was one thing, but being unwelco was an entirely different feeling!
"There’s no need to stay in Upper City any longer," Gui Xingli said. "Co with to Luozhou first."
"I was planning to go to Luozhou anyway," Ye Yuning replied.
"When is your flight?" Gui Xingli asked.
"Tomorrow," Ye Yuning said.
"Then don’t worry about the ticket information; I’ll arrange a private jet for you."
Ye Yuning fell silent. Her heart sank even more at the words "private jet." "Does Old Master Xiao truly despise so much that he wants utterly destroyed?" she asked.
"Judging by his past thods, yes!" Gui Xingli confird.
Did it hurt? Yes, it hurt a lot, even suffocatingly so.
"I don’t know the full situation this ti," Gui Xingli continued, "but judging by how he tampered with the death of Qi Mulan’s driver, it’s clear he won’t let you go."
Ye Yuning nodded. "I understand."
She had never imagined Old Master Xiao to be such a person, soone who would want to hunt her down to the bitter end. Now, it seed pointless to say anything more about Upper City. She didn’t want to say anything more either.
"I’ll make arrangents imdiately," Gui Xingli said.
"Alright," Ye Yuning nodded.
Seeing her like this, Gui Xingli wanted to offer so words of comfort. But she also knew that nothing she said at this ti could soothe the turmoil in Ye Yuning’s heart. She sighed and turned to leave.
Once Ye Yuning was alone, she sat on the sofa before the floor-to-ceiling window. Below lay the entirety of Upper City. At this mont, she felt her life had truly beco terrible. She tried to recall every little mont with Xiao Linye, but those mories were now becoming increasingly vague. It had all been like a dream... Now, that dream was utterly shattered, and she was wide awake.
BUZZ. BUZZ. BUZZ. Her phone vibrated, interrupting her thoughts.
With a blank expression, Ye Yuning answered without looking. "Hello."
"It’s ," Qin Jinchuan’s cold voice ca from the other end.
"What do you want?" Ye Yuning asked, her voice uncharacteristically listless.
"Did you hit Xiao Shuo?" Qin Jinchuan demanded.
"I don’t want to talk about this right now, can I?" Ye Yuning replied.
Everyone was asking her if she’d hit Xiao Shuo. No one asked why, or for what reason. In their eyes, she was simply the irredeemable villain. Ye Yuning didn’t even have the strength to explain anymore. Especially not after Xiao Linye hadn’t believed her when she told him his father was targeting her. She truly didn’t want to say anything else... It felt like words were aningless.
When Ye Yuning didn’t respond, Qin Jinchuan’s tone on the other end of the line grew heavier. "Speak!"
"What do you want to say?"
"Did you hit Xiao Shuo or not?"
"Yes!" Ye Yuning admitted.
She had. She was the one who hit him. Hadn’t they all heard the rumors about what kind of person she was? Did they really need to seek her out to confirm sothing like this?
Hearing her admission, Qin Jinchuan’s breath caught on the other end. "Do you have any idea what you’re doing?"
"I know. But I did it anyway," Ye Yuning said indifferently.
Her indifferent, fearless tone made Qin Jinchuan explode with anger. He roared into the phone, "Ye Yuning, do you think you’re hard to kill?"
"Hard to kill or not, I still hit him!" Ye Yuning retorted. "Yes, it was ! I nearly beat him to death! That’s who I am—vicious and terrifying! Is that enough for you?"
She admitted it all, not bothering with a single word of defense or explanation for her reasons.
"You... you woman..." Hearing Ye Yuning’s nonchalant tone, Qin Jinchuan was so furious he gritted his teeth, utterly speechless.
"Is there anything else, Young Master Qin?" Ye Yuning asked. "If not, I’ll hang up now."
"Wait!" Qin Jinchuan cut in sharply just as Ye Yuning was about to end the call.
Damn it, was this woman really not afraid of death at all?
